Hahahaha that made me laugh. Sure we committed genocide on them, but let's just forget about that and chill! Riiiiight.
Well it is. The Persian empire tried to conquer the world and killed many in doing so. The Roman empire did the same thing. Britain controlled a majority of the world and placed their laws and rules on the places they governed. The Americans fought for their freedom, then kept slaves. Germany tried to kill all the Jews. The Aboriginals of our country are not the first people to be fucked over by someone else.

So yeah, it may seem unkind to say, "Get over it, it's in the past" I really don't see why we can't come together right now in the present and become a community that helps one and other. I hate that there are people who shout abuse at Aboriginal men, women and children just for who they are just as much as I hate being blamed for what happened to them, especially seeing as how neither side of my family was in Australia until 1930/1970. So yes, I believe that it's time everyone move on, and rise above what was done and join together to make sure that it is never done again.

It's just a total coincidence that the life expectancy of Indigenous Australians is some 20 years less than the average then?
Do not confuse our sins with the sins of our fathers. If people want to talk about the shit that goes on in the settlements I will be right fucking on board. I spent enough time living in the territory to know that we need to do more, just do not dress it up as inherited guilt for having been born British descendent in Australia.
Fair enough, but in my experience, people that say "It was all in the past, I had nothing to do with that!" tend to like to lump modern ongoing problems into the list of things they shouldn't have to worry about.

And all too unfortunately, a lot of well intentioned people who wish to help subscribe to the belief that our guilt is inherited and while I will accept our collective responsibility to help our fellow citizens, quite happily in fact, anyone who thinks that I will feel the slightest bit of guilt over shit that happened before I was born can get stuffed.

I have run into aboriginal people while I was in the territory who shouted at me that I 'stole' their country and those pricks are about as low as the 'fuck off we're full' dickheads

Uhuh, and I suppose issues of poverty and class mobility are irrelevant. I'm sure those things will just disappear the moment everyone just gets over it.

And for the love of god no one is blaming you for the injustices of the past. No one is expecting you to feel guilty about that. No, but we are being rightly blamed for CURRENT injustice, which is not isolated from the past, nor does it exist in a vacuum. Saying "we're being blamed for things we didn't do!" is just the rhetoric of the priveleged and the entitled. Being expected to acknowledge and compensate for past injustices, which YOU have benefited from as a result, does not constitute being 'blamed' or made to feel guilty.

Wait, you mean that the 17 years that I have been living, it's MY fault that a large portion of the Aboriginal populace are being discriminated against? Okay...cause that makes sense. I wasn't born into a wealthy family, my parents are no longer together, and I am unable to land a job, so please tell me how it's MY fault that the Aboriginal community is being discriminated against. My god father is an Aboriginal soldier whom married a white woman and had a son who is gay, he holds no grudge against the white community and has attributed all of the work that he has done in life to his own personal pursuit. HE made his life the way it was, not the white man, and so while there are definately communities out there that are struggling, some times it takes a bit of self responsibility and perserverence to change something. I don't expect there to be change at the drop of a penny, but we gotta start somewhere and Australia Day is the perfect day to unite as a nation and celebrate being Australian.

I'll just be treating it like a normal weekend. All the celebrations are filled with bogans, and it always ends with people beating up immigrants and yelling "fuck off, we're full".

Australia day celebrations are a big reason why I'm not proud of my country.
This is exactly what i'm doing.

Welcome to the club Vault. Not much to do in Perth. :p
I'll be doing the same thing...

I recommend the Rekorderlig brand cider. Sure it may be 7.50 for one bottle but it is worth it!
Strawberry and Lime is my favorite...

Heh, thanks. I might also partake in a cider. I'm quite partial to them, good idea.
No problem mate, as I just said Rekorderlig... it's a nice brand but pretty expensive.
Perth is a bit dead. Unless you're my mate, who's a police officer. He's going to have an awesome day trying to control the dickheads!

I'm going to a BBQ. Might bring bourbon, might bring cider. Depends on how much money I have. Anyway, should be nice weather :)

Eating beer and drinking pie......
I see what you did there.
See what, isn't it normal to put you pie in a blender in-till it's a drink and to freeze your beer in-till it's an ice block?
Oh yes, I do that all the time actually. Nothing like frozen beer and blender-ed pie!

Heh... was hanging with 2 of my nephews this morning and they were going spare that some tossers want to rename Australia Day to Citizen Day... because it might offend people who aren't citizens.

I told them it sounded like the usual media beat up from some journo who needed to stir some shit to keep their job.

Oh yeah, and in the spirit of Australia Day, today I bought some new work boots... didn't buy Australian made ones because Blunnies are now made in China, RMs are a fucking rip off, Rossis have shitty soles and the stitching can be a bit dodgy, no one had any Redbacks in my size (fuck ordering online), and any other Aussie brands I found were shit and/or made in China.

So a got a pair of CAT workboots (rebranded Wolverines). Cost $170 but they're rugged as fuck and will last as long as a pair of RMs (or old, Aussie made Blunnies) will and longer than anything else.

Exactly :p
It's even better when you then freeze the blended pie and melt the ice blocks!

Bummer! I'd give you a lift to the movies (hell, I'd go with you - it's got to be amazing I found another female gamer from Perth), only I have committed to two parties tomorrow. I don't even like parties. What the fuck am I doing with my life?

I mean, I bought two Bruce Willis movies and V for Vendetta... and I'm choosing a party instead? WTF?
