In left 4 dead if i hear a tank....I run away and dont look back letting my team-mates kill the tank. But other than that i quite frequently help other players out as long as it isnt going to greatly harm me.

What....havent you heard of survival of the fittest.

I always help a person when they are down, regardless of what obstacle is in my way. Then again, this normally results in my health dropping a significant amount but that's not the point.

I bought Left 4 Dead, and returned it later in a trade for Saints Row 2.

I honestly don't know what keeps people playing Left 4 Dead, its a good game, and one i'd suggest renting, but why is it so popular as a buy?

Lately I have had less motivation to save a bot, as for some reason they have been making a stupid maneuver(and it will most likely be Louis if I'm not playing him). The more I think about it, and especially reading these posts, I definitely will go back to save a player...bots are on their own. The chance for saving at least one, will add so much to the sweet flavor of the final end than just letting them go.

I never go back to rescue people if I'm in the rescue vehicle. When the vehicle spawns, then there are unlimited tank and SI spawns, with pretty much no down time between them. It's not worth losing a campaign to try and save someone.

I save people based on probability of success vs failure. Though it would be interesting to play a few rounds as the saviour-type.

Well I am an asshole but well. Once this guy was pissing my team off all campaign. So when we were all running towards the copter on the hospital level I used the Uzi/M16 bug where you can fire an entire clip at once and took the bastard down right before he got in so we left without him...
So yeah. The mission comes first. Especially if the other players are douchebags.
Help them if you can but if its going to get you killed then you are letting everyone down.
You frighten me

Once, in versus, I walked onto the boat as the tank and knocked down everyone but zoey on it (Louis was limping toward it so it hadn't left yet) But when louis went down the boat left, with a tank on it o_O safety hazard much?

Screw them all. If there is a safehouse/vehicle, get in and shut the door. Unless of course, you want to get the back 2 help achievement.

No Mercy: Chopper had shown up, and I had already taken one smack by the tank and then walloped some by zombies. I managed to get up to the pad, and there was the tank IN the chopper wailing on Bill. I rushed to get in the chopper while firing on the tank, and unfortunately Bill expired by the time the chopper left. The infected being able to get into the rescue vehicle adds an element of 'Get your butt moving!' Dilly-dally and the teammates being nice enough to wait for you and add covering fire might just get stomped on themselves.

If I'm in the rescue vehicle, I never leave. If I'm my way their and you need help, I might help, it really just depends on my mood. If you helped me earlier I would help you, but if you were a complete asshole and you never healed me, then the smoker is allowed to rape you for all I care.

Well, no matter how much health they have, their gun is still just as deadly, also, the single biggest influence on score is the survival multiplier in versus mode. Getting one person to the safe room doesn't change your score off of the paltry couple of hundred you'd normally get if no-one got there but you got pretty close.

It's always best to end with as many people as possible.

However, if I'm in the escape vehicle at the end, then I'll shoot as much as I can, but I'm not coming out unless you're right next to it.

Because the multiplayer with a team of friends at your back is unrivalled.

I have this OCD like pension to save any friendly or neutral AI I can in a FPS game...which made for interesting run threws of Halo and Hal life, I'd keep on trying until they were saved..... you might waste a few extra hours doing it...but damn you feel proud of yourself when you do it...

I know I know......I need meds....for more than one reason >>
I have this same problem. It doesn't matter if there are even rewards for doing it, or if the game even takes notice, from trying to make sure my entire squad makes it back in war games, to preserving units in a RTS, I have it in my head that these guys trust me with their life, and I shouldn't be throwing it away needlessly.

Playing through Deus Ex like that let me find out you CAN save Paul!

My playstyle is always "friends first, allies next, then me." (unless the allies are bots) That's just how I play, thanks to the Battlefield series. I don't usually play a multiplayer game unless it's with a friend. It's mostly why I bought Left 4 Dead. If I see one of my comrades being attacked by a smoker, hunter, tank, whatever, I intervene, despite what the outcome for me is.

There are times when you must cut your losses to an incapped survivor. Oftentimes the sheer number of zombies and/or the presence of a tank dictates that some sacrifices must be made.

Don't think of it as me abandoning them, I'm simply saving them.....with a Molotov Cocktail.
I save them with fire.
I only hurt you because I love you.
