Half Life had a good story and that's a First Person Shooter. By the way you mean the original System Shock right? The one released in 1994? If not you'd be nine or ten, because SS2 was a 1999 game.
Q:Did I accidently put a 2 in front of system shock?

A:No

I think I need to reitterate: Not all first person shooters have bad stories but most dont need them.

A:No

I realize what you mean, looking at the majority of FPS games this generation, most forgo story altogether. My fault though, I needlessly posted again with Half Life but wasn't really talking to you specifically.

Oh dear god, another retard who compares A First-Person Shooter to a third-person tactical combat game!

Resistance 2 is not Gears of War. Get it through your fucking skull. You cannot compare the two games directly, any more than you can directly compare Tomb Raider to Mario Kart.

Now, by the sound of things you are claiming the game is shit because you can't bear to look in the mirror. Yes, Resistance 2 has no Cover Mechanic. Nor does any other FPS game!
You mean aside from Rainbow Six Vegas? Oh and Killzone 2.
You're forgetting Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2...

A forum poster? A GIRLFRIEND?

I find THAT hard to believe.
Haha, the reason I started posting on this forum is I had just broken up with my girlfriend and had a lot more time on my hands. A very valid point

So what exactly is your problem?

By reading your rant, it appears as though you have 3 distinct and different complaints..

1. This game isn't as good as you were led to believe by the gaming media?
So what? Who cares? Happens all the time. Not like you can't afford to buy games dude..

2. You are unable to control a FPS on your console and prefer them on PC?
Good for you dude. Most of us adapt to console control pads. Live with it, or stick to your PC.

3. You didn't play the multiplayer cause you didn't like the single player campaign?
Bad luck dude, there's still plenty of people playing Halo 3.

Personally, I was going to buy this game, but there didn't appear to be anything to make it stand out from the overabundance of FPS's out there, so I didn't, and am glad for that fact. Hopefully Killzone 2 will be worth buying, but from initial reports, it too seems to be another boring generic FPS.

Most of the Metascores on Steam are complete bullshit. SR2 has a 70 even though you can't play it. And they grossly underrated fallout 3.
You know the scores used on steam are just taken metacritic right? Also how is 92% underrated, for Fallout 3?
I'm not sure what you mean by metacritic. And your right, grossly underrated is a bad term, and I apologize. I just believed it deserved more of a 96 to at least tie with HL2.

Better conversation and company than a woman can ever give me!

Just... No breasts. A nice pair on the logo would suffice.

Was resistance 2 REALLY that hard? I mean I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy or anything but the game is pretty fun to me, and the part of it being too hard im playing on super human mode now and im not haveing too many problems. The whole cover rant is a load of bull, like others said this is not Gears 2 so get over that part, hide yourself behind a tree or sumthing and chill for like 5 secs, then do the smart thing and DON'T BE A RETARD, that means when you get your health back don't instantly run head first back into the gun fight just to get you head blown off, the AI is'nt stupid. The story was'nt hard to follow either or maybe I'm just good at observing I don't know. The online co-op is a nice add to the game one of the main reasons I have'nt gone out and got another game because the co-op is fun "to me". Multiplayer in resistance 2 can be a ***** at times but thats how it's like with ALL FPS games, mainly halo, like the "pull an amazing kill outta your ass card" or the "shoot around a corner card" and even the "I got shoot in the foot I guess I'm dead now card." But thats just FPS for ya. But to wrap this up Resistance 2 was'nt that bad of a game, it had it's flaws like EVERY other thing in the world dead or alive, but it has some good points to it that the game made me happy I spent the money to get it. Oh and if you think this game is bad then you don't want Yahtzee to see this because he will burn you for makeing a request of him in this manner. I probly sound like a fanboy defending this game, but we all are fanboys of something.

well idk why u bought the billion dollar ps3, the x box 360 is cheaper and has better games. For Pc lovers, the pc is just not a fun place to play an online game were u also need to talk (Exception is counter-strike), so why dosnt everyone agree that he didnt like the game and stop bashing his argument and try to make your own?? that is allways a good idea.

Bioshock anyone? Or, if you're one of the masses that says it was just a copy of System Shock 2, then System Shock anyone? Just because a game is a shooter doesn't mean its story is going to be bad.
I would have been 2 when system shock came out so I dont think I played it.

I admit defeat at your point so from now on I will say First person SHOOTER and then theres bioshock.

I liked the story of half life 2 myself. :)

So much so that I 'had' to play the episodes.
Half Life 2 is kind of what I meant.
Ah works for me either way. I meant it as a "and I also like this on top of your points" more so than a correction.
Aha, sorry I have to guard myself. There seems to be a ton of animosity on the Escapist threads as of late.
I know right! Man! Everytime I post something someone goes ten ton cock on my ass about it. Most of the time no amount of evidence matters either because any point you make involves a source that 'has an agenda'. I start to wonder if the general theme on the escapist is that everyone but the arguer has a special agenda :p.

Anywho glad we got that out of the way :). Good luck in this thread >_>

You have better luck of posting on his own forums.
Yep, sorry General_Rogue, I know for a fact he does not read these posts. He is not the least bit interested. He does not even read the comments thread on his reviews. His own forums would be the best chance... if at all.

Heh. Yes he does. Maybe not the ones that float around like this one, but he's casually mentioned more than once that he has read some of the comments on his reviews, and in his mailbag showdown, I remember someone posting in the comments to that that the "mail" was in fact not email but forum posts on the SSBB thread, something I never checked myself because it's over a thousand posts, but believed to be true.
Yes, for this... http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/37-Mailbag-Showdown it's an exception because of the size of the comment thread the SSBB critique generated.

But I asked an acquaintance just a few days ago who knows him well if he read the comments posts... the answer? "No, he couldn't be fucked what people thought".

And I guess he's too busy playing GH. Haha, he really does own at it apparently, big time.

Metacritic is a website that gathers together as many professional reviews as possible and then takes an average.

I didnt like resistance 2, i didnt hate it nearly as much as you did, but i just wasnt impressed with what the game offered coming form a next gen game. part might be because i never played resistance 1, so maybe theres a plot that i shouldve been pulled into but didnt. and part might be that im a COD/pc fanboy. but yeah calling for the gods to rain hellfire on this game isnt goin to happen, and just because a game sucks doesnt mean everyone must kno bout it, any smart person knows not to trust most ratings haha

oh and i jut went back and read some of the earlier posts, not sure who it was but someone mentioned the over usage of the word "noob". The word is used way too much to the point that people saying it just sound retarded. I've been in many online games that some people would say noob after every kill they made, like he took the time to type it in to every person. Let the word die before i start hearing my little brother say it, idk if i could take that type of heartbreak haha.

Having now beaten the game on Hard, and going for the Superhuman Run next, I would like to emphasise once again how 'Cover' in Resistance 2 works.

First, you stop listening to whatever shit band you have on your pink iPod, and turn up the volume on the game. This will allow you to hear the enemy. Enemy guns make 'Bang bang' noises when firing, and no-noise when not firing.

This is clue number one; if you hear 'Bang bang', it isn't safe to come out.

Next, the enemy make all kinds of scary snarling sounds. If you hear scary snarling sounds, it means Mr Chimera is close enough to rip your face off. Apply Shotguns liberally until the problem goes away.

This is QUADRUPLY true of Chameleons!

Next, learn to scout. Pop up and out just long enough to get a feel for the area, and work out how you can attack; use the Fareye where possible on distant targets as its Slow-Time ability will allow you to line up a headshot and duck back again before anyone can shoot you. Use the Carbine / Marksman at all other times. If you have an Auger, you can lock on through cover.

Finally, KILL STEELHEADS FIRST! If you don't, you WILL DIE because Cover doesn't work vs Steelheads.

In short, any player who is in remotely capable should be able to play Resistance 2 without difficulty - you find cover, you jink out to shoot, you jink back before you die, you wait until the Red Ring of Death goes away and then you do it all again. Seriously, it's all about engaging the brain. Yes, a few areas are a little 'trial and error' because you get ambushed, but on Normal that shouldn't be an issue.
