I think I read somewhere that if the age of the universe was measured on a clock, we would currently be 2 minutes past midnight on the first day.

What that means, is that the universe is still very young, and that humanity may very well be the first advanced species.

You see all this sci-fi stuff, well it turns out that humanity may be the Vulcans, the Asari. We are the ancient race that discovers younger civilisations :D
Mind... blown... Never thought of it that way o_O

I think we're going to be the super-advanced galaxy-spanning race that mysteriously disappears and leaves relics of our technology for a future race to discover. You know, like, in pretty much every sci-fi thing ever (Forerunners, Protheans, Reapers, Ancients, The Endless, etc)

There is a lot of hate for the human race in this thread -_-....
First contact would be like Leif Erikson and the Americans. Or first portugese to Japan/china. Not so much happens.
Sure, we're not unified but that isn't necessary to colonize space. You don't need to be unified to colonize an island, this is the same on a bigger scale.
Problems we have are probably exemplary of problems sentient creatures will have. With more intelligence you get new problems, so intelligent alien life (that isn't a hivemind) won't necessarily be any more perfect.
