significantly FPS-less, but also with much fewer complaints of Halo going the way of Final DFfantasy with 800 million bloody games

Halo made console FPSs what they are today. Anyone who can't see that is a hater in denial.

Still, I'm sure all of the haters would find another game to rag on for no reason other than popularity. Some people just have to "fight the man" by hating anything mainstream.
No, I think I'd go further back and say GoldenEye was more important to the console FPS genre. It more or less laid the foundation for how it is today. Halo was more like the innovator that came along to introduce the new overly-cloned features we see today. The phrase "Often imitated, never duplicated" comes to mind.

I also can't believe I'm saying all this because I'm not really fond of Halo, mostly because the story and characters don't interest me. Having had my share of multi-player fun with some friends in the past though, it was still pants-on-head retarded fun... especially with being able to record gameplay movies in Halo 3 so you and your friends can relive your past Retard-fests.

And if GoldenEye is Halo's grandpappy, then Wolfenstein 3D is their "Old Country" ancestor from the land of "PC-vania."

Perhaps you shouldn't come off as so 'Fanboy-ish' either, 'Metalli-cat.' It's alright to love a franchise but don't try to defend it when others flame over it, it just doesn't end well. You won't win and they won't win. In the end, you all just make yourselves out to be a collective of hate-filled narrow-minded pricks.
I absolutely agree Goldeneye was more important to the genre as a whole, but the last few years has been nothing but WW2 shooters and Halo clones. That should say a lot about how important Halo was at the time.

I apologize if I came off "fanboy-ish", I honestly just wanted to make a point. If you can't see why Halo was important to the FPS genre, then you're ignorant. I don't even play Halo anymore aside from the occasional match on Halo 2 when CoD4 frustrates me. Halo 3 feels watered down and casual compared to Halo 2.

a heavenly place where no fanboys existed and only true joy would fill the streets and forums of the internet :)

A world without Halo would be a world without one game that inspired many a generic bland FPS shooter that clog up the market so much I can't even talk to some of my school mates without trying to punch them for their lack of taste.

Yes these conversations do degrade into Halo-bashing, it's just the way the internet works.

Speaking as a bit of a Halo fan, it would be a better one for FPS games. Less regenerating health and less blatant ripping off of Alien.

A wolrd Of shooters Without Regenerating Health Bars and Limited Weapon space... A better wold in some respects.
A world without Halo 3... Even Better
But then..
A world without Halo 1... Not willing to make the trade.

I agree wholeheartedly on Halo 1. Best game in the series, even if it was a little bland.

A world without halo... well here's where i make my opinion...
A world where Microsoft didn't buy out bungie and let halo be developed for the mac and stay there would have been great. The Xbox would have deteriorated into nothing because there wouldn't have been a good game for it yet (the only reason to get an xbox at the time was for halo). Then the xbox would have deteriorated into nothingness and microsoft would have once again lost a battle and exited the gaming industry (like SEGA did with the dreamcast). Then the PS3 would have dominated the console war vs the wii and there'd be only one console that every gamer would get... a frigging PS3 (i'm not a ps3 fan, i have an xbox 360, its just i pondered this and wrote an essay on this before). Then the world would belong to SONY (thats a bit outrageous).

some people are right halo has to many fanboys, but so does COD and mosto ther shooters, and other arrogant people, im not bashing any games in particular just saying that shooters have the worst kinda gamers on there and i admit that i am a bit of a ranter when playing online and so im no different but when it comes to other games im not like that, it just seems like shooters need to try to restart things, well thats my opinion

EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME.

Amen, amen. I'm getting really tired of people crucifying Halo.
Always glad to get some backup. It's just stupidity over all; A lot of people claim Halo isn't the messiah and it's nothing special, but they just fuel it by going on and on and on about it.

There will always be a halo type thing but it simply would be a different title and instead of master chief we would have sergeant major its all the same crap rolled into FPS games.
