As much as I like Halo a world without it would mainly be the same but there would be less raving lunatics and the Xbox would be less popular.

Can people stop asking this it can get annoying and repetitive.

You can NOT be serious, my fucking god dude.

I'm not going to start an internet flame war, but Jesus Crist you have no idea how wrong you are.

God Damn
But!, I agree with Rad that Halo did revolutionise though, remember, back in 2001? Halo was revolutionary and then they made 2 clones of it (2+3) which by that time were much less revo because of the large number of Shooters that soon saw how succesful this could be and copied and enhanced their own games.

I'm not going to lie, I have no hate for the series, and I quite enjoyed playing it like anyone else who bought them did, but people expected Bungie to revolutionise Shooters every new release, which was unreasonable - people claimed Halo CE was better than 2 and 3 and there was no need for 2 and 3, but go back to CE and tell me you wouldn't rather have a Battle Rifle or the veeeeery enhanced graphics and a Hornet...

So I believe Rad was somewhat correct in what he said.

I enjoyed Halo:CE don't get me wrong, but it really didn't do anything that had not been done before.

It was an impressive Console Shooter.

But it did not in any way revolutionize the genre.

A world with more interesting shooters instead of all these rip-off's. UT3, Haze etc. etc.

It'd be a world of DOOM! (Get it?)

But in all seriousness, without Halo, a lot of the great FPS's of today would never exist. Halo influenced a whole genre, and there's no real denial to that. I don't like it, but it just is that way. And you don't want to mess up the space-time continuum.

A world without Halo would leave health bars in Call of Duty. Oh come on you can't stand there and say Call of Duty didn't add regenerating health to capitlize on it's popularity in Halo. Look at Call of Duty 2 Big Red One. It was massivly popular and was often called the best in the series up to the point (Then Modern Warfare came in). But why? It didn't do anything that the others didn't do. The only diffrence was lack of the health bar.
Halo 1 had health bars.
Halo:Combat Evolved did have health bars but they regenerated over a brief amount of time. Due to it's popularity Call of Duty added it in to one of it's games.

A world without Halo would be a better one.
Halo isn't the best thing since sliced bread tbh.

And nope not a COD one, there are lots of other great game series out there such as Battlefield, Resistance, Final Fantasy, C&C, Resident Evil etc

There are also lots of new(ish) IP's around, LBP, Heavy Rain, erm, cant think of anymore but there are some lol

Console FPS's wouldn't be as dominant, the Xbox would have failed and by extension the gaming world would probably be less focused on random online features and DLC, and either the console wars would have been a two-way competition between the PS2 and Gamecube or maybe someone (possibly Sega, but not likely) would have filled in the gap, not to mention the many other alternate history details that would exist.
So Halo is the reason I hate gaming anymore. I really don't like the fact that you can't fully enjoy a game without DLC anymore. I miss the simpler days when you could buy a game at the store and be secure in knowing that nothing would change unless a sequel came out (except for PC games with DLC. Couldn't even play a buddy online if he downloaded something you haven't).

Actually not true considering there were countless other FPS games that were more success then Halo, that any developer could have jumped on. I'd rather have 600 clones of say Golden Eye, Half-Life, or Perfect Dark then 60000 clones of the same space marines shooting at the same aliens with the same motives with the same guns. Essentially the FPS has become a Copy Paste genre..:/

On Topic; A World without Halo would be a world where the Xbox Doesn't exist and ultimately there would be less annoying 12 year olds yelling about their penis on XBL. Of course without the Xbox we might not have gotten Braid so..>.>

i have never played Halo and the game has very little to do with my world so, from a personal point of view, things would pretty much be the same. yes, they may have had an effect of FPS' in general but i rarely play them so i wouldn't know

I don't hate the halo games i just don't get how games as mediocre as them sell like there a gift from god!

Halo's only outstanding achievement is inspiring red vs blue!

Halo brought FPS's to console gaming. FPS was a genre, that before Combat Evolved, was though to be only for the PC. That's why it revolutionized the genre. I don't care if you hate Halo, but making a post that is only contributing by telling me how wrong I am is flaming.

Still, you can't deny that it brought popularity to some today reoccurring elements in the shooter genre. And there are games that made it good. And as I said, you don't know what will happen when you fuck with the space-time continuum.

This. Also, A world without Halo would be a world where machinima died.
Good point. Without Red vs. Blue, machinima wouldn't have become popular.

A world without Halo would be pretty much the same. Just replace Halo with either Counter-Strike or Call of Duty.

Yes, one would take it's place as the 'definitive' modern FPS. I think other games would've been better recieved without Halo encompassing everything the masses want in a Sci-Fi FPS
