well due to the butterfly effect i suppose the world would be completely different,
world war III, all countries merged into one mega country, everyone doomed to lead a life of decent multiplayer but rubbish storylines... barack obama plays WoW... nobody would watch master chef after misreading it...

but in a normal world without halo, everyone would have a ps3 and shooters would be slightly different.

Halo made console FPSs what they are today. Anyone who can't see that is a hater in denial.

Still, I'm sure all of the haters would find another game to rag on for no reason other than popularity. Some people just have to "fight the man" by hating anything mainstream.
No, I think I'd go further back and say GoldenEye was more important to the console FPS genre. It more or less laid the foundation for how it is today. Halo was more like the innovator that came along to introduce the new overly-cloned features we see today. The phrase "Often imitated, never duplicated" comes to mind.

I also can't believe I'm saying all this because I'm not really fond of Halo, mostly because the story and characters don't interest me. Having had my share of multi-player fun with some friends in the past though, it was still pants-on-head retarded fun... especially with being able to record gameplay movies in Halo 3 so you and your friends can relive your past Retard-fests.

And if GoldenEye is Halo's grandpappy, then Wolfenstein 3D is their "Old Country" ancestor from the land of "PC-vania."

Perhaps you shouldn't come off as so 'Fanboy-ish' either, 'Metalli-cat.' It's alright to love a franchise but don't try to defend it when others flame over it, it just doesn't end well. You won't win and they won't win. In the end, you all just make yourselves out to be a collective of hate-filled narrow-minded pricks.

A World without Halo would be very very very very very very very similar to a world with halo, only instead of Halo, there'd be some other game franchise for people to become rabid fans/haters of. Probably Half-Life

If you want to pose a decent question in this vein ask something interesting and different like;
A world withou Alcohol?
A world without Alcohol would be a world where I and millions of other men would never, ever get laid.

The reason xbox become a success was because of the success of halo 1 and 2.
Halo was the jumpstart needed for the xbox to become successful . just like Mario.
yea Halo 1 made xbox and microsoft a success

Mario and Zelda made Nitendo a success

idk much about Playstaion systems or Sonys greatest success
Sony didn't really have one great success as far as titles went, not that they actually produce any first-party groundbreaking franchises. Every hit of their systems has been from a third-party. Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Spyro, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear were the early bread winners on the PS1. Most followed over to make the PS2 a rousing success also.

Not exactly on topic, but I just laughed to myself at mentioning Tomb Raider... because I have the first one for SEGA Saturn. It was ported to that long before the PS1 every got a hold of it, yet it didn't hit it's stride on anything other than PC until it hit the PlayStation. Sorry, having a surreal moment there. :)

A World without Halo.. well Oblivion would have had a much better interface aimed towards PC users (like in Morrowind) and Fallout 3 would have followed that example too.

I would focus more of my complaining on Gears and CoD beyond 3. I actually wonder what would happen without Halo to me, since I got into the Xbox BECAUSE of the first Halo. I might sill be mostly the same, or I may have a Wii instead of a 360, and would not become a TES fanatic due to never playing Morrowind on the xbox. Wow...a world without Halo may not be as good for me as I would think. Scary...

Not feared...just wise enough to avoid.
Halo threads usually turn into Halo bashing rather quickly.

...it'd be a a world with some other fun space shooter.
Yeah, something worse would have taken it's place. And by now we'd all be living in a world of constant rainfall, decay, fascism and fake looking goatee's.

On a serious note, Microsoft would have probably just dropped Hardware entirely.

a world without halo would be another game being bashed and abused by everyone. If halo never existed my one friend would shut the H#$% up and stop talking about halo like it is god made halo and everything ever made is based of it. God I'm tired of him being a douchebag fanboy it is annoying, then says that xbox 360 makes xbox 360 games, then dis computers for being s$%$^* in always then when i argue a point we will point out Halo, then i would point out Halo is on PC and PCs were used to make Halo, but no he is a douchebag fanboy. And i'm not flaming halo, i like halo but my douchebag friend just ruins it.

The console FPS would be less common and less popular as we wouldn't have worked out how to make them control properly, the Xbox wouldn't have sold as well or would have gotten a new franchise one of the two or both... and finally we would all have to find some other game to label as 'overrated' and 'mediocre' and in turn that means I wouldn't be able to defend it....

*gasp*

In a world without Halo I might not even exist!! Or at least certainly would never have found myself on the escapist. A life without VREX is hardly a life worth living for me.

A world without Halo would be a a world with a Warhammer-Doom 2 hybrid for the Xbox 180, by now. Halo is always fun, regardless how old it is, like The Beatles.
FINALLY! Another proud Beatles fan. Last year I was the only person in my 12th Grade class who liked them... i copped some serious shit.

OT, A World without Halo would be a world with 1 less generic Space Marine shooter.
I say bring on the Reign of good 40k Shooters. Dam you Fire Warrior you piece of crap.

A world without halo would be a world where the original xbox never got big, and microsoft would not have made xbox 360.
