I guess it'd be like it is now, only that the developers that made halo would instead make a different game, but with the same concept like....Leylo: Wombat Evolved.

Well, it came out about a year before Command and Conquer: Renegade, so maybe... No, they'd probably still have the vehicle sections.

That was Halo's big thing, right? Or was that the Flood?

A World without Halo would be very very very very very very very similar to a world with halo, only instead of Halo, there'd be some other game franchise for people to become rabid fans/haters of. Probably Half-Life

If you want to pose a decent question in this vein ask something interesting and different like;
A world withou Alcohol?
A world without Alcohol would be a world where I and millions of other men would never, ever get laid.
Not seeing that as such a bad thing...

On topic, without Halo, Perfect Dark might have gotten the awesome sequel it deserved(yes I know they were released about the same time, but we are playing hypotheticals, are we not?) Also, I would have never thought any game could be so bland and generic.

A world without Halo... to be honest I didn't see anything in Halo that Half-Life, COD and Quake hadn?t already done. So we'd be here talking about the world without what ever game that would have done the same thing only under a different name. Hell if Einstein hadn't created the Atom bomb some other person would have. Can't stop a good idea! I use the word good pretty loosely in reference to the atom bomb.

Console FPS's wouldn't be as dominant, the Xbox would have failed and by extension the gaming world would probably be less focused on random online features and DLC, and either the console wars would have been a two-way competition between the PS2 and Gamecube or maybe someone (possibly Sega, but not likely) would have filled in the gap, not to mention the many other alternate history details that would exist.

Edit:

A world without halo would mean we wouldn't have awkwardly controlling vehicles in FPSes. The genre would be at the mercy of valve and formed into the great, creative genre it could have been.
I fixed a couple of typos for you, Souplex. Don't worry, happens to the best of us.

A world without Halo would leave health bars in Call of Duty. Oh come on you can't stand there and say Call of Duty didn't add regenerating health to capitlize on it's popularity in Halo. Look at Call of Duty 2 Big Red One. It was massivly popular and was often called the best in the series up to the point (Then Modern Warfare came in). But why? It didn't do anything that the others didn't do. The only diffrence was lack of the health bar.

A world without Halo would be _________.

A question some have been feared to ask perheps?

I say a world without Halo would be a COD World
A world without Halo would be a world without RED vs Blue.

a better statement would be "A world without Doom/Wolfenstein would be a world without _________"

FPS's would be different, in my opinion. Halo somewhat revolutionized the genre with Combat Evolved, and are recognized greatly for that.
Halo did great things for consoles.
Don't take me for just another halo-hater; I'm not. I personally think Halo was a great console game, but it was just another average title for PC gamers.

... A world without Halo is a world without the Halo-Haters.
A type of fanboy which is much more irritating than normal fanboys.

Eh, 3 pages in and this entire thread is basically just setting up more and more flame bait.

A better tomorow? But seriously not much would change. Just a generic FPS gone.
Well great numbers of FPS spun-off their ideas from Halo. So we would be a helluvalotta games down.
