their trying to police the internet? you know what I say: good fucking luck. there are too many people using it to control all of the internet. and besides, that means that they will need access to all the web pages in the world.
No matter how many people there are, 1 pull of the plug and suddenly everything goes down. Even the master sites like 4Chan or Facebook could easily be crashed by a government funded hacker group.

Never going to happen. They have been threatening this type of shit for years. Would be like trying to introduce a law where the cops can just raid your house for any illegal contraband without any reason. Then what is next? Full body cavity searches? Spread em wide boy.
The people would not stand for that shit, that or everyone would suddenly move to the places it said were not involved, China, Russia and Brazil.
However if by some freak occurrence did make it though I can so see us lining up for our daily Prozium shot within the decade.
Anyway I would love to see how this shit goes in places like Norway where high speed internet is a basic human right. So you can take your 3 strike rule and shove it so deep even Goatse could not find it.

That was purely uncalled for. Even moreso than this bill.

Just remember, you don't even have to have pirated anything. Just accused. Thrice.
Doesn't that go against "Innocent until proven guilty"?
Indeed it does.

Keep in mind, not every country has this...
Indeed, but my country has this. So shouldn't I as a citizen of that country be protected by its federal laws?
Not according to a clause that I read somewhere indicating that treaties override constitutional rights.
Huh.

I guess it's time to start a revolt then. *looks for volunteers*

What I found the most frightening was that this was supposed to have come into effect at some point last year. And I'm only just hearing about it now.

Take that, Internet.

Translation: I remain skeptical such a bill would pass and, even if it did, if it would have much impact at all given the difficulty to enforce.

You will be away for a very long time my friend, if you are waiting for the leaders to get a clue.

oh you won;t be able to illigallly download movies anymore to fricken bad. just do it the legal way for gods sake.
Cause you know, Hollywood isn't rich enough. Doesn't Tom Cruise make like a couple million per day of filming, and the studios still turn a profit. And you honnestly have never pirated anything? Not even music?

Let the record show, by the way, that I have never pirated movies.

I'm in! I've got a... kitchen knife.

Damn, I wouldn't be ready for a zombie attack, much less an attack on anyone with things that fire other things.

And thank you for your greetings.

if this is implemented without severe changes to it, then classic zombies make sense.

*sigh* when i said classic zombie, i meant living dead that come back through the powers of magic, not neurotoxins or any of that other stuff.

If it means piracy, it death to piracy, not the net. The net has a whole lot more than just that.

Thing is enforcing it, proving it, ect ect.

As for music, F music downloads. The bands don't see anything from record sales they see it from concerts, t-shirts ect. They might be lucky to get their own damn cd from their record label at cost to sell at the concert. It's the whole, can't video tape shows on VHS or record tapes of music from radio... can't enforce it. I live in Houston, it floods I make a backup of my games, FU I made a back up...where is my original X-com and you find my back up? Games 15 years old! it's lost that's why I have the backup!

As someone who values privacy and liberty over all else, I will go postal if any of my representatives in Canada DARE to even THINK about supporting anything like this. FUCK THE RIAA, MPAA, CRIA, etc.

EDIT: I feel like rioting but I shouldn't say that in this Orwellian world we live in today.
Don't worry, if this survives in the States, Canada will attempt to pass it within 3 years.

As for the whole accusation thing, it is very unlikely to turn into some kind of witch hunt where people accuse everyone they don't like of pirating data. The average person (and even plenty people right on this very site) aren't aware of this just the same way as they probably aren't aware of other little laws that don't affect them in everyday life.(Hey, did you know that you can still legally duel people in the USA as long as it isn't to the death so long as both parties clearly consent?)

Unless one pirates vast quantities of information, one likely won't draw any attention to oneself.
No need to get any more paranoid. The Government has better things to spend your tax dollars on than giving random tech savvy individuals swirlies.

Im sorry but the copyright legislation between countries would have to be unified, as well as the laws controlling human rights, to allow for this to pass.

I cannot see a whole bunch of politicians deciding that they *all* will follow the same legislation.

We have enough issues between state and federal politics - so I can see it being a somewhat good idea in theory but in practice will not get off the ground.
