Oh lots. Off the top of my head, I think Michael Fassbender is one of the 2-3 best actors working in the industry today, and I absolutely love the way Carey Mulligan emotes with her eyes.

I get that this is a vent/flame type thread, and I don't love any of the actors/actresses listed...

but man, I'd be very interested if someone made a thread that was opposite of this (a love/squee thread) and see what everyone's responses were.
Ask and ye shall receive!

I'll start the ball rolling with a real gem: Sir Patrick Stewart. Dat voice. I could listen to that man all day and never get tired of it. Plus, he absolutely rocks the bald look.
aww making me blush over here ^_^

I do like sir patrick stewart, I haven't seen a TON of stuff he has been in, but I do like what I see of him both on and off the set.

I'm not sure I adore him, but there are few Karl Urban movies I don't like.
Also can we just get him to play Dash Rendar in a Shadows of the Empire movie? PLEASE?!

Can't tell me he wouldn't be perfect!

*drool* that would be fucking awesome, never thought of this before.

but I do give a thumbs up to him on actors I adore.

OT:

[HEADING=2]michael fassbender[/HEADING] is a big one people have mentioned in here, I don't think there is a role he's played that I didn't want to see more of him in it.

[HEADING=2]heath ledger[/HEADING] was a big one growing up, I was very sad when he died at such a young age, not to be selfish but I felt like he hadn't even had given us his best work yet.

[HEADING=2]Alan Tudyk[/HEADING] is another one, he's done so many different voices/characters that it's so impressive to me they are all coming from the same person, I always perk up anytime I see his name in a film/cartoon/game.

and there are many more males I could say for sure, but I'm going to keep it even and list some of my favorite females now:

[HEADING=2]Hilarie Burton[/HEADING] she's a tv actress more than any movies, but I do like her on screen alot, she's given off strong and assertive roles amazingly well while also being able to fill the sarcastic/humor and dramatic roles beautifully as well.

[HEADING=2]Charlize Theron[/HEADING]...what a BAMF, I can totally get immersed with her on screen...and at the same time I'd do stupid things to be able to take her out for a nice steak dinner.

[HEADING=2]Emily blunt[/HEADING] I remember seeing her in the five year engagement and adjustment Bureau and thinking "oh, she's beautiful and fits this role", but she jumped up to "WOWZA" after I saw her in edge of tomorrow, she was awesome in that.

Lets see (at the top of my head)-
Bill Murray
Will Ferrel
Johnny Depp (well ok not so much whenever he appear in a Tim Burton film but he's a great guy irl like he kept his Jack Sparrow costume and goes to any hospital with that costume and read story books to children.)
Patrick Stewart
Ian McKellen
Robert Downey Jr
Samuel L. Jackson (I respect that he's a workaholic)
Sigourney Weaver
Uma Thurman

All have pretty much been mentioned, but:

-Keanu Reeves. I'll be the first to admit he's not a great actor, but he's apparently one of the nicest and most genuine guys in Hollywood, and from what I've heard basically gives away his paychecks to the film's crew.

-Hugh Jackman. He just seems like he'd be an awesome guy to hang out with. Also any person who got fired from 7-11 for talking to customers too much is cool in my book.

-Jennifer Lawrence. I do think she's a good actress but not as revelatory as people make her out to be, but she seems really grounded and funny and very anti-Hollywood glitz.

People already mentioned a lot of the fantastic actors around right now. Fassbender is amazing,Keanu is awesome (for action movies!), Pitt is really good.

I am really surprised no one has mentioned Daniel Day-Lewis yet. He just blows me away in every movie he is in. He literally becomes the character. The dude is amazing. And that is why I want him to do a True Detective season.

Also surprised by exclusion of the best action actor ever, Jackie Chan. A joy to watch in every movie.

I had another, but it slipped away as I was imagining Jackie Chan be a boss.

Edit: Was reading a previous post, and Charlize Theron is fantastic. She was so good in Fury Road.

Must..contain.....negativity....to other.....thread!

Great actor, terrible person, should probably be in jail. Damn I just couldn't do it. Great Magneto though.

Okay okay, actors I adore. Channing Tatum, he's just a big hilarious thumb person who can play drama just as well as he does comedy and action, he has a doe eyed sincerity that I find immediately endearing and 22 Jump street is honestly one of my favorite comedies of all time.

Emily Blunt, maybe one of the most underrated and convincing action girls in Hollywood. Enough said.

Madds Mikelsen, he's just intense as all hell and brings that intensity to whatever dramatic work he's chosen to grace with his weird face. Valhalla Rising wouldn't have been the same movie with anyone else, he's a master of subtle emoting and has routinely portrayed very challenging characters.

Brad Pitt, somebody up above mentioned that Pitt is Similar to Robert Redford and I can totally see the comparison, Pitt is at his best when he's playing a slightly odd character who is nonetheless entirely too likable.

Honorable mention goes to Chris Pratt for being the new generation's Harrison Ford, I won't be surprised when his career trajectory continues to mirror Ford's. Still needs to learn to pick projects better though, Jurassic World was terrible and his character so unlikable it almost soured me on him as an actor, and I loved Andy Dwyer.

Huh. I'd never heard about his domestic abuse charges before now. That's unfortunate.

Pitt is a limited actor, but I really enjoy his willingness to take on difficult roles or unusual projects. He could've had a fine career doing rom-coms and Oceans Eleven style fluff pieces, but he dips his toes in a lot of interesting waters. Have to respect that.

David Warner is consistently great. I always feel a bit sad when his head is chopped off in the Omen.

Tim Roth
Internet hi-five to the other Tim Roth fan! I watched Lie to Me just because I was so entertained by his performance. I even thought he was good in The Incredible Hulk.

I'm going to go with a few others here and say Keanu Reeves, he's a cool guy, and I usually like his performance in movies.
Joel McHale (Because Community)
Charlie Day
Andrew Lincoln
Richard Armitage
Alexander Skarsgard
Aaron Paul
James McAvoy

There's lots of others, but whenever I watch the things I remember these guys from, I'm always focussed on them. Armitage and McAvoy are good ones to follow, since they actually get pegged for projects, whilst the others so far haven't been so lucky, or like Day and Paul, have been in pretty lame fare.

Have you seen The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford? I really wouldn't call anyone who could pull off that performance limited.

As you say, he can absolutely handle the uber mainstream stuff (I think he's great in Mr & Mrs Smith, and he's almost the only good thing in Troy; equal parts vanity, impotent masculine ego/anger, and bitterly intelligent melancholy), but when directors like Andrew Dominik give him roles (he directed Pitt in Jesse James, plus Killing Them Softly), I'd say he's outstanding, able to use his natural screen charisma and presence and contrast that with genuine nuance and detail.

For a 'star'/Hollywood heartthrob who was known for his looks and masculinity, he's done a great job of deconstructing contrary masculininity across his career. A very smart actor, and seems thoroughly decent as an individual, too.

Daniel Day-Lewis is my favorite actor of all time. I've seen just about all of his big films, and it is amazing to him go from Newland Archer in "The Age of Innocence" to Bill the Butcher in "Gangs of New York" and finally Abraham Lincoln in "Lincoln", all being period pieces which take place no more than a decade from one another.

I could honestly talk about "Lincoln" all day, but that performance moved me more than anything I'd seen since I was really young. His delivery goes so far beyond what comes out of his mouth. The way he moved as Abe was like an old, wooden giant, his appendages creaky and rigid, and everything about him felt labored. It was the most humanizing portrayal of the Great Emancipator I've ever seen, and it left me speechless.

I'm shocked to see myself be the only one to point to Christopher Lee. The man had an amazing voice for villain and had a personal life just as interesting as any role he played.
Lee was an acclaimed actor, WWII veteran, knew multiple langues, a direct descendant of a giant of history and a composer of music. If Lee was a fictional character we would deem him a Gary Sue.

So so so so many...there were a few i used to dislike but i see great work from all sorts now. Unless i am that easy to please/fool. But generally don't pick tripe films, that is for my friends with crapper tastes. Shall try to keep this brief;

Ben Kingsley. Watch Sexy Beast. Nuff said.

Patrick Stewart. Do i need to explain this one?

Cate Blanchett. Sighh if only i was older or ahe was younger or...whatever. She has skill and very defined features.

Maggie Gyllenhaal. Same as above.

Jake Gyllenhaal. He must be getting paid so much more and i wonder how that affects any sibling rivalry.

Ian Mckellen. Yup.

Daniel Day Lewis. I keep forgetting he is Irish. What a pity. Talking of Irish...

Colin Farrell. Or feral, hehe!

Leonardo Dicaprio. It has been great seeing him mature through hollywood.

Claire Danes. Sigghhhhhhh...one day...

Brad Pitt. Yes, low hanging fruit, so what?

Mark Strong. He has surprised me a few times.

Simon Pegg and his...no, just Pegg.

Eva Green. No words.

Daniel Craig.

James Mcavoy.

That kid from This is England (and the angry skinhead guy...lemme find their names) ahah;

Thomas Turgoose and Stephen Graham.

Robert Downey Jr.

Hugh Laurie.

Stephen Fry (just a brilliant guy really)

Keanu Reeves (Also an admirable guy).

Anne Hathaway. Not for her catwoman role, though it is fine, it isn't her most complicated character.

Tom Hardy. (Tinker tailor soldier spy, fcking Bronson! ...do not judge till thou hast seen).

Ethan Hawke.

Christian Bale.

Idris Elba.

Don Cheadle.

Hugo Weaving

Peter Capaldi (NOT for Dr who... try the film: In the loop, for the best impression of a nasty, stressed, constantly swearing politician. I laughed many many many times. Go watch!)

Guy Pierce (See Factory Girl where he plays Andy Warhol as a c**t, it's brilliant).

Gary Oldman and William Dafoe. Has anyone wondered what it would look like to see them make out? I think it will be equal parts disturbing and fascinating.
There are more. But i should stop now.

Damn, in the OP as well, never had a chance.

Well in addition to Patrick Stewart I would have to say Liam Neeson, man with a fantastic screen presence and awesome voice.

Leonardo Dicaprio - One of the finest actors of his generation. When I first saw Blood Diamond I was blown away by his performance.

Brad Pitt - Fight Club, Inglorious Basterds, Snatch, 12 Monkeys. Need I say more?

Hugo Weaving - Don't you agree, Mr. Anderson?

I follow a good rule of thumb...Paul Giamatti and/or Laura Linney make everything better. Even if the movie sucks, it will suck less because of one of them. Needless to say, I enjoyed John Adams very much. I also love Jennifer Lawrence, and not just because I find her so beautiful that my higher-order brain functions kind of shut down when I see her; she's an actress with surprising range. Also, Mark Ruffalo.

Oh, and Robert Downey, Jr., who I'm convinced should play both Aziraphale and Crowley when Good Omens is finally adapted into a movie.
