Advanced RPGs?

I'm looking for something new to play, looking for advanced/complex RPGs. I've already played everything from Bioware. Something like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights. For the PC. Not JRPGs.

By advanced / complex I mean they've got a lot of different classes or stats and stuff to min/max and all that, not just like 3 different skills like DA:O or ME2. :I

Any suggestions?

You didn't find DA:O a little complex? I quite liked how you could layer armour and shizzle. Of course each to their own, some people like a REALLY in-depth RPG!

I can't honestly think of one that isn't JRPG, but then JRPGs don't tend to be proper Roleplaying Games in the sense of you create a person to play the game, they tend to be pre-scripted linear games.

I'm sorry, but did you even play DA:O? The game has a ton of skills for every class, a wide gear selection and plenty of stuff to min-max. Heck, you mention BG2, but do I need to remind you that in that game most classes leveled up with almost no input from the player. You were just informed about what went up. Thieves distributed their points and sorcerors got spells. Everyone else just picked a weapon proficience every now and then. Compare that to leveling your attribues, skills and talents in DA:O... (just so we're clear, I love BG2, I just don't think you were being fair to DA:O)

Other than that, I'd suggest The Witcher and Vampire: Bloodlines.

Disgaea? The calculation system is very odd, but the levels go up to 9,999 and you can reincarnate the characters multiple times, just to build better stat growth each time. Plus you can level items, weapons, armor, and so on. It also easily lasts over 300 hours, and there's a ton of character classes (many that have to be unlocked), and uniques you'll get as you go through the story. And that's not even touching on the skills evilities systems.

Oh wait. It's Japanese, so it must be shit. Nevermind.

Pokemon is probably the deepest RPG I know of, given it's multitude of type variants, stats, and move sets.

And a total clone of FF! That's what all JRPGs are modelled on right?

OT: Seriously, go back and play DA:O again, and this time mean it

Diablo II. It fits perfectly into your criteria, with "lots of different classes and skills" and "stuff to min/max". It has no story Its deep and engrossing story is secondary, but it compensates with enormous amounts of fun.

I think your missing the point of why a lot of people don't like JRPG's.
There's just too much stuff, all the list's and list's of endless items and spells, i find it to be too much.

On saying that some people like that and i suppose that's up to them.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at the witcher and the earlier TES games. I just never found DA:O to be any intresting. It all just felt predictable and simple. Guess I'm being unfair though seeing as I'm comparing it to stuff like D&D which has has something like 20 years to evolve. Just not my game I guess.

Yeah but soon as it gets complex it becomes boring grindfest.

If you played everything from Bioware you should try Bethesda. I think that their games are little too overrated but Im probably the only one.

I really loved playing Diablo with my brother but the graphics gave me a headache.

Summoner? It's extremely detailed, but if you want graphics you won't be getting them from it, bearing in mind it was released in 2000.

Warcraft III was released in 2000 and it's graphics have aged very well.

Damn those 2D anime inspired sprites. Just like Final Fantasy in every way.

The thread is about asking for suggestions on complicated RPGs. I named one that can get complicated if you put enough effort into it. I know the entire game isn't that way, but still.

Anyway, to get to your point. I don't care if people don't enjoy that game, I was just contributing to the topic. I understand that some people don't enjoy those kinds of games, and that's fine.

Does Dwarf Fortress count as an rpg? That's really complex and deep by the looks of it.

Disgaea can get realllyy deep as well. You can complete the game with minimal knowledge of everything, but if you dig a bit deeper you find tons of great mechanics.

Pen and paper DnD. Although, from what I understand you should stick to the older 3.5 edition instead of the new 4th edition. I haven't played 4th ed, but it doesn't seem to be well accepted by the community.

Also, WoD and Pathfinder.
