Unless you're over 16 don't play M rated games online
I'm sure you never watched an R-Rated movie, played an M-Rated game, or even dared to smell beer untill you were of age? If so, your life must have been pretty darn boring.

Personally, unless the kid's really annoying, I am indifferent.

what about people under 18 playing M-rated games but they are mature about the game and you know don't cuss out everybody that so much as shoots in their general direction.

What game was it?

Amen to that, just kick them and tell them to read a book
I just cant get any of my mics to work, its the only thing I can never work with on my computer. so I do what Kukul does and I just type fast.
In the games I'm making I am incorporating a finely tuned muting system that will make sure that you wont hear those idiots ever again, also a vote mute feature.

A game that does this well is Zombie Panic Source (its a mod for HL2)

Well he's complaining about people being dicks to him because he's 13. You wouldn't go into a strip club at 13 then ***** when they throw you out
Maybe it's just me. but comparing something like playing a game IE. CoD4 and going to a strip club is ludicrous. Could you expand a bit more on that thought?

Contrary to popular belief, your "life" doesn't exclusively take place before you're 21, and who the hell needs R-rated movies, M-rated games, and beer to have an interesting life? You want to know what *actually* makes your life interesting? Doing things like boldly trying to convince the German clerk that the two Turkish boys who snatched your bag and are now trying to return your pink shirt are not legit even though you only know about 4 words in German. :p

Contrast the adventure inherent in this scenario with a.) sitting in a dark room and watching other people do stuff, b.) sitting in a chair and punching keys for hours on end, or c.) sitting in a chair because you can't stand up.

Bah.

I've been kicked a few times for being a mature-acting individual on servers run by kids who just wanted to screw around without adult supervision.

Suffice to say, there'll always be people carving out their little exclusive niches. If you ran afoul of a game where some folks don't want kids playing with them, don't take it personally: it's their issue, not yours.

I've never encountered anyone who acts like that on live. It may just be me, but not a lot of people are really nice even though I sound like I'm ten with my nasally voice.

I find that one personally offensive:

In my 23 years of life, I have played only a few M games (Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 are the only two I can think of), watched 4 R movies (Glory, the Matrix Trilogy), and never had beer, wine, or any other alcoholic drink, except accidentally drinking fermented fruit juice.

And trust me, my life isn't boring.

Age doesn't matter as long as maturity accompanies. The age rating is a guide to stop younger generally more impressionable copying violent etc things shown in the game/film. This is not necessarily 100% perfect. Some young people have the mental age beond that of a normal whatever year old and thus can play these game uninfluenced and no harm done. Some older people lack the certain mental qualities to distinguish life and games, and may also be as susceptible as a younger person. The age limit is for the majority as a precaution.

You'll probably find alot of people support these limits as a social right of passage, the higher the age limit the more risk and "peer points" you get for doing. Don't be a meathead ^^ do it for yourself when you are ready not when its convienient for others. I wouldn't like to break the rules... just bend them at my discretion ;)

P.S If he had a beard, was a reasonable height, had enough money and didn't moan like a little child then yes, a 13 year old could get into a strip club; but he may need a fake ID these days as it seems to be requirement for <80 year olds wanting to buy matches =P

Kid.

USE YOUR HEAD.

Seriously. If a game is designed to be for Mature audiences, don't play it. I've just been exposed to GTA myself. I'm 15. Will be 16 March 21. Even then, I'm a tactical mic user. "Dude, heavy around the corner." Not, "Hey guys, did you see that new episode of Spongebob?"

Plus, I seriously know that games are all fiction.

I just turned 32 on Christmas. I mostly watch cartoons.

It's not because I'm immature, but rather because the typical high-profile adult television these days is usually made up of one of the following:
  • [li]Overly dramatic right-wing bullshit that preys on people's insecurities (72 Hours, CSI)[/li]
[li]Sense-offendingly morally irreprehensible shock humor (most of the Comedy Network lineup)[/li]
[li]Oddball topics explored in a manner befitting a mentally handicapped individual (most modern Sci-Fi shows)[/li]
[li]Crappy reinactments of things which never happened. (History channels various UFO/Ghosts/Dinosaur stuff - even the actual series they do run that are based on history are wildly exaggerated)[/li]
    [li]Sports (which I'm not a fan of)[/li]
    [li]News (which I can't reasonably decipher the bias of)[/li]
    [li]Boring (nearly everything else)[/li]
The only half-decent contemporary adult series to come to mind in recent years is Scrubs. I stick to cartoons mostly because many are at least fairly clever in execution. Not the ones developed for complete neonates, not always the adult-targetting cartoons too (though Simpsons and Family Guy are okay - the later is a bit heavy on the shock humor). I prefer the kind that are developed for the whole family to enjoy, because these are the ones where the developers are more or less in a mindset of being on their best behavior while producing something exceptional enough to engage the minds of kids of today.

If anything, it seems I'm too mature for contemporary society. I'm not too impressed with people who confuse "R-Rated" and "M-Rated" with "Mature" behavior. It's more like "wantonly immature behavior so bad that we're afraid some dumbass kid would imitate it because they're too young to understand it's wantonly immature behavior." You've got to ask yourself if watching that kind of material to prove your manliness is just being a tool to imaginary concepts of cool. The same goes for a desire to kill off your brain cells with alcohol.

I played games as a young'n even if they wern't for my age so if I was to be 'ageist' as you put it that would make me a complete hypocrit.

People like you are the problem.
Anywho, I feel you're pain brother, my voice has yet to change either, and I take a lot of shit for it. I just try to ignore those people, they're assholes anyway and they don't deserve my company.

Seriously, I'm 13, most people on this website find me to be respectable, what does it matter what age I am?

Reading some of these posts really does sicken me. This viewpoint that age ratings = undeniably right and must always be followed is something which I find absurd.

It's the maturity that matters, not age. Although there's certainty a link between maturity and age (the reason that age ratings are used to try and prevent certain games from getting into the hands of people who can't handle the content) the link isn't that strong and there are plenty of exceptions. I see age ratings more as recommendations than rules. That's why parents are able to buy games for "underage" kids. Instead of viewing it as "he's too young to play that game. End of story", I consider it better to view it as "Although age ratings exist, they're really only recommendations and this kid's parents, the people that know him/her best have decided that this kid is able to handle the content in this game. Therefore, there's nothing wrong with this kid playing this game".

Dinosaurs didn't happen?
Anyway, I'm 'not old enough,'(14) to play most games that I do, but I think that I'm mature enough to not be turned into an axe-murderer by seeing a few pixels on a screen stab each other. Apparently, my voice is also similar to that of a 21 year old's so no one is a douche. If you're telling young people not to play games intended for more mature audiences, how do you know that these kids don't have enough mental integrity to handle something like that?

I'm young, and often better then most people I play with that are way older then me. I still don't talk much over a mic though, I just don't see much of a point to other then the necessary "I need a heal" "Tank around here" "Guns here" etc.

They happened, but the way you see them represented on the History Channel (like most of the rest of the channel) is highly exaggerated material. In many aspects of dinosaurs' lives, fossils can provide only a educated guess at best, ask any credible paleontologist. But a history channel CGI dinosaur show will take you through their entire day and state it as fact. It's done mostly to pander to ratings - people will tune in to see the mommy stegosaurus tending her young.

You ruined Walking with Dinosaurs for me.
There go my childhood memories...
