Yeah, I was reading the Protagonists thread and noticed someone point out Malcolm Reynolds. Couldn't really agree with that, so I started ranting out loud what I thought of the Alliance Mal so hates and why-

WAIT A MINUTE! There's no thread on this!

Post your hated antagonists and why.

Well, I DID say I'd been composing a rant, didn't I?

From what I've been able to tell, most of the Alliance is a group of well-intentioned extremists colored and directed by evil fuckers. Why for do I say that? Well, we have in the show points where it's obvious that on a normal day, some of these guys would be okay to his fellow man, even friendly. It's when you put on the uniform and the mindset that Alliance military and everyone else gets sour. And as per the evil? The secret projects and the behind-the-scenes crap going on spells that out enough. Hell, the Hands of Blue kill everybody just because River was around them for the briefest of interrogations to prove identity. And regardless of whether or not the movie is in the same continuity as the show, the kind of shit that happened there CAN happen and proves that the Alliance is not just evil, but DUMB.

What do we have here? Ah, yes. The self-absorbed rich, guided by greed and status, mostly snobbish hypicrites that are entirely what we hate about the rich and probably portrayed that way on purpose. Still, it's canon because it's there. The military is Yes-Sir, No-Sir, Just-Following-Orders-Sir, and never questioning things like morality or sanity of anything around them. Your average professional ANYTHING appears obtusely arrogant and not caring what happens if it is not theirs to query about. They're just good little cogs like everyone else. This is a kind of 1984 future world where Everyone has to be kept in line or shoved into a little room for the rest of their lives. Oh, and Big Brother IS watching, so much so that they tried to make a psychic to do just that on a level that people can't predict.

They're too stupid to do anything more than whip people into straight lines and think straight and narrow thoughts. The reason Mal is so blindingly hating these people is not just because they're BAD. It's because they're corrupt, hedonistic, jackass retards! And while you can find these qualities in other people, sometimes all at once, outside the Alliance...the Alliance has perfected it to an artform!

Your turn.

Boratheon.

That spoilt kid is such a shit. In the show anyway, I'm guessing he's as much of a **** in the books.

Oh, and for why? Because he's just such a massive ****. Everything he does just raises his cuntiness factor by 5. No matter who he's talking to he's a ****, no matter what he does, he's a ****, and the worst thing is that this massive **** is related to the best character in the series.

There was another "Protagonists you hate" thread? I must've missed that one this time.

Hm.

I'm having a hard time thinking of one, really.

I hate Buu from Dragonball Z. I just didn't enjoy him as the final villain of that series.

An antagonist I legitimately hated because of their character?

I wanted to reach through the screen and punch her. So yeah, I hated her but I loved the fact that I hated her.

I cannot overestimate how much I detest Azula.

Mind you, I didn't hate her to the point that I wanted her out of the show. Really, the amount of loathing I have for her is a testament to how well she's written.

But good god, was she an awful human being.

Caesars Legion, I like how people try to put them in the gray area when the game outright tells you they are evil.
I agree.....its not just the women are slaves thing (which kinda means I can abide by them at all) but also becuase their culture is brutish and hateful and everything I can't stand

and its certainly NOT the best option for new vegas, NCR may not be perfect..but hell...even an independant ot under mr house New Vegas is better

oh and the best part is how ceasar says the NCR is corrupt....yeah....corrupt.........ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME "I ENSLAVE WOMEN, KILL CHILDREN AND CRUCIFY PEOPLE I DON'T LIKE???!!"

They feel much more gray than Caesar wiping out towns, raping slaves and treating them like cattle.
exactally...there is no "suneshine and rainbows" option as each one has negatives and pros (I chose an independant vegas, let the people sort themselfves out...as much as I did suport the NCR in alot of ways..thats what I liked..I didn't have to delcare war on the NCR to get my way..though I did piss off that general guy)

there was somone here (ageis ago) who honestly though the legion were the best option...damn that was annoying

just as Im sure alot of people were all suportive of cerberus in ME2.....untill ME3 rolled around

But just think about it: The only person of whom she thought had feelings for her was her father, who saw her as nothing more than a tool. Her mother, though she may have loved her, was banished and the child was raised in the belief her own mother saw her as a monster. Her friends were her friends because of fear of her and she knew that. This woman never expirienced trust beyond the trust of her father in her fighting abilities (or the trust that she will do something awefull to you if you hurt her).

At the end, especially during the final episodes I was just sad because from the way she was raised she had no other choice but become what she was (Zuko got lucky in that way).

On Topic: The antagonist I hate?... Does Tidus count? Because if I'm truly honest, there is only one video game figure I hate and it is Tidus.
Her mother saw her as a monster because she was a monster. She was a born sociopath, and her mother knew it. Hell, everyone knew it. I can't feel any sympathy for her, not even in light of her severe mental breakdown, because every instance of misfortune inflicted upon her in the final episodes was well deserved.

Same, I personally loved Mr House's ideals of Vegas, how he planned to bring humanity to the stars was excellent, I liked the idea of being his lieutenant, to help his dream come to fruition. I wish he and the NCR could have worked together, he didn't even dislike the NCR in any way, he didn't want them taking the city he loved away from him, perfectly justified. The NCR was greedy and while I liked their society, they kept showing little help to the people of the Mojave because they weren't NCR and their greed of trying to take Vegas from it's savior.
its funny mr Vegas always came across as rather cold....like I never really knew what he was planning, and it seemed as though he too didn't care much for "the little people" as he was focused on his own grand goals

to me the NCR had both the posatives and negatives of a cilvilised society (beurocracy and warmongering)

but then like any genious mabye his heart was in the right place..he just had that personality, goes to show how thease different things can be interperated in different ways

[quote/]Independent is also good but I felt bad taking Vegas away from House. I do like how Yes Man will get an upgrade to making him more assertive and you can fulfill House's ideals yourself.
its funny you see it like that....when yes man mentioned his "upgrade" I was like "ohhh...shit" I didn;t see that as a good thing at all...the way he said it made me think he was going to be "problematic" in the future...there always felt like alittle hint of resentment in Yes mans forced enthusiasm (with good reason)

he's the genius supercomputer so why should some schmuck from the mojave tell him what to do?

[quote/]In fact, I consider House to be the inherently good option, I do believe the Brotherhood is an organization that is no longer needed unless they change, which they won't. I would have had little trouble destroying them if it weren't for poor Veronica...
up untill that point I was pretty indicisive, and even though getting the brotherhood out of the picture was necicary killing them was the limit...I didnt want to do that and I wouldnt..I was annyoed I had no other option

but killing mr house....damn that made me feel awful....and whatever justification/reason you gave felt really really hollow

and Sir has stolen the thread. I don't think I've ever known such an utterly unsympathetic character. I tell you, the battle of Blackwater was a real dilemma for me, trying to decide what I valued more, Tyrion's life, or the prospect of seeing Joffery (and Circe for that matter) get what's coming to them.

I just hope in season 3 (I haven't read the books either) Rob Stark gets to shove a sword down his gizzard, as he'd be more likely to spare Tyrion. Failing that, he could get eaten by a Dragon at some point.

Another bump for Caesar's Legion. I still can't think of a single good reason to help them win, doubly so if you happen to be playing a female character.

Oh and Suzaku from Code Geass. I don't care how you try to say they are sort of dual protagonists. Suzaku was such an asshole antagonist by at least the starting episodes of R2.

Seriously, all of his logic and plans for helping Japan are so full of holes and easily shattered it's not even funny.

His master plan by R2 is him progressing up the ranks of the Britannian army by destroying the other army led by Lelouch who is actually trying to destroy the crazy corrupt and evil empire so he can get his free province to do whatever with. He would choose Japan then somehow just say "right, i'm setting Japan and all its resources free to do its own thing. Pack up and roll out guys!" without the Emperor going "lol no" in an instant.

The two opposite ideals between Suzaku and Lelouch are pretty one-sided on who to agree with imo.

1. Completely destroy the corrupt and evil empire and rebuild the world anew from its ashes

2. Try to change the system from within

You see the huge amount of corruption and random bullshit that happens as a result of Britannia most people would agree that it is too far gone and isn't possible to/worth saving.

Not to mention he gets pretty unstable later on. He even lets a shitty assassination attempt (one guy with a knife in an open area) actually get through and kill him because he doesn't want to live.

Don't worry, Lulu's "live" command kicks in and he judo throws the guy down zero effort.

Lelouch was a bit of a dick sure, but he always had purpose and was generally more cohesive with a good line of reasoning for his actions, motivations, mistakes etc etc

Suzaku is all over the place for near the entire anime...

Also In LoL. Singed. If by "antagonist" you mean "troll" XD

I find him to be an antagonist if i'm playing Riven at least. I'm one of those people who actually care about the lore of at least some of the characters.

Random lore stuff, spoilered to avoid epic walls of text

Basically Singed almost (indirectly) killed Riven and did kill her entire unit with his trolltastic chemical weapons. They were on the same side. This led to Riven going into self-imposed exile because in her eyes Noxus denying the Ionians a fair victory with random chemical weapons lobbed at both sides is against the very foundations of her country. I.E "the strong have the right to rule"

In her eyes denying the Ionians a fair victory like that is not being stronger than your enemies, it's making your enemies weaker than you.
