And we have a Bingo! Really, not sure how dead naming Quinn, which is still a shit move imo, but w/e, is transphobic, since she's not being called by a male name, but making the suggestion Nicholas Cage plays Wu (hurr hurr, because he'll take any role), is a transphobic as fuck thing to say.

"It's a joke". Well yeah obviously, a really nasty joke at someone's expense, that was clear enough. If I slap you and call you a fatuous blumpkin, then insist it's a joke, so what?
I want to express some measure of surprise and/or annoyance at this, but my ability to feel shocked or aggrieved over cinematic adaptations has been all used up.

I'll say the same thing I said last night: I hope it does the decent thing and portray everyone involved on all sides as malicious, incompetent, morally bankrupt, or a combination of the above.
If it was made as an anime, I could see that being done very dramatically. I will do it!
I will use Twitter... and I will change the world!

But as it's going to be a low budget movie at best, I honestly don't know how they would translate the angry posts to the big screen without just dumping them as a wall of text.

This would normally be the part where I'd insert that clip of Bender saying "Oh, you were serious? Then let me laugh harder!" But that one's gotten a bit old by now. As such I'll simply go with this response:
"...really? Wow."
Which effectively mirrors this response:

Oh? Sure you can't squeeze out a bit more for the two movies that are being made regarding the board game Monopoly? One revolving around a boy from the game's own slum Baltic Avenue on a quest to make a fortune while the other focuses around the apparent scandal and intrigue that surrounded the creation of the actual game...whatever the hell that is. Sounds like fantastic cinema if you ask me!
P.S. I couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that it really didn't take very long at all for comments to start getting flagged in this topic.

Y'know, to have her be played by a woman would be worse imo.
If you want to portray a trans woman accurately, either have a trans female play them, or get a man and a good effects team.
To make a woman play a trans woman erases their past. That's how Orange is the New Black did it anyway, unless this biopic is gonna somehow take creative license on people's genders.
To conclude: Yes, if they're getting Scarlet J to play Zoe Quinn, I think Nicholas Cage is a viable candidate for Brianna Wu, because if they can get that type of star quality, they can afford the prerequisites to make Nicholas Cage shine in the role.
OT: Going to be fun watching people post online for about two hours. I would make a joke about how I had already seen the trailer because the Warcraft one came out but the humans fight orcs primarily, not trolls
Pretty sure the joke was Brianna Wu is grand standing and eccentric like Nicolas Cages acting. The joke was that they act in similar ways, and oh my god you just make me explain a joke. Anyway the punchline wasn't transphobic so this comes like people bitching about Daniel Tosh making a rape joke.

Barring having an actual transwoman play her, one could just as easily argue that having a ciswoman play her is more respecting of her gender identity, which outweighs 'erasure of her past'. That wasn't the point of my post though. Glib comments about how Cage should play her because he looks like her, and let's be honest, that's the comparison being drawn, your photoshopped picture is only further proof of that, is transphobic. If you want to talk about erasure of identities, let's talk about erasure (and disregard of) of gender identity, which is what's going on.
Oh it's a joke.
Oh Cage has acting chops (a really backhanded way of making fun of any mental health issues she might have btw).

Oh I'm not defending any other posters here, but don't call me transphobic.
I'm arguing its transphobic to not give the role to a trans person.
Quite frankly, having a cis-woman and playing a trans-woman when being trans is a big part of the character's story will be innacurate and disorientating.
Since famous trans women are noticably in short supply, if a famous male who is willing to do the necessary physical and psychological work to portray a trans person (in this case, Nicholas Cage) then that is preferable over a cis woman.
