The story is built strongly on the theme of hopelessness. You get to watch the slow dissolution of sanity into paranoia and savage murders. Due to the way the story is structured (I won't elaborate because of potential spoilers) you get to watch some pretty horrific things happen to the characters you care about. Higurashi doesn't exactly handle its characters with kid gloves.delta4062 said:Whats so horriying about it?
The needle in the ohagi wasn't actually a product of the hallucination or the paranoia. You have to remember, Mion comes from a yakuza family. Their sense of humor is a bit...different. Read the manga and it's pretty clear that it legitimately happened as a (horrible) prank.Lunar Shadow said:It's actually far more fucked up then that, he is having violent hallucinations and paranoia.
I'd have a Hell of a time trying to watch that series again, after the ending. I was stunned at the sheer brutality of it. "See? There's nothing inside."scotth266 said:Well, if you're willing to put up with a short bit of romance, School Days is a optimal choice. Sure, in the beginning its cutsy and adorable: but it quickly shifts focus completely. And the end... the end, you will not see coming.
And if you remember that the main charachters range from 12-16 at the most it puts it more into perspective (Higurashi)RollForInitiative said:The story is built strongly on the theme of hopelessness. I Like Akiba Girls. For something more on topic though, I think that Alucard can get pretty awsomely freaky at times. Interesting thing though, no anime truly freaks me out, not even the consept of the Haruhi thing just get Agent 47 (or Kratos) after all, it would be easy to kill her as she is not omnipresent so you wouldn't have to worry about her expecting it. Plus existentialism is stupid, or at least this part is:NeutralDrow said:Nah, not anything. Sex Friend, Hatsu Inu, Pure Mail, and Campus are pretty non-creepy, for example.delta4062 said:Also anything hentai is just creepy...
Now La Blue Girl, Jiburiru, Bible Black, F3, Kite, and Night Shift Nurses...those are freaky.
Very good choice. Freaky on so many levels. Elfin Lied didn't really freak me out, I just thought it was bad assvivaldiscool said:higurashi no naku koro ni.
That anime is the king of making wish you had a pistol of some sorts under your belt.
Edit: It's genre actually would fall under at least psychological horror.
And since all blood in movies is faked, how scary something is, is purely dependant on how immersed you are.
Nah. It nicely built off them and resolved a lot of the plot threads left in the series. Not to mention had some cool battles and a great song to end the world to.madbird-valiant said:How about Evangelion in general? Fantastic series, but creepy. End of Evangelion is even worse for people who liked the series, because it completely shits on the last two episodes.
I was thinking that at first, but it isn't really scary. For creepy, I'd go with Blood+. Vampire children get very scary...ZickyJackz said:Elfin Lied...Seriously...the people who made that show love gore.
I'd have to agree with you, the gore can be a bit much but really it's not that scary, well maybe the start of episode 1.ZickyJackz said:Elfin Lied...Seriously...the people who made that show love gore.
Sort of like this one? Based on a 1953 storyFlying-Emu said:A girl who controls the fate of the universe and changes it according to her basest whims. A girl who appears to have a mild case of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, as well as being a teenager with mood swings and such.0p3rati0n said:niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiceFlying-Emu said:I've actually never been scared by an anime. But the implications of the plot premise of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya gives me chills to this day.![]()
Best part of all? She doesn't KNOW she controls the world. For all we know, we could die in the next split second because she didn't enjoy her grilled cheese sandwich as much as she would have liked.
Now, take that situation. Make it real. That's fucking chilling, dude.
No comment here, no comment at all. We only wanted to introduce you to one of our very special citizens, little Anthony Fremont, age 6, who lives in a village called Peaksville in a place that used to be Ohio. And if by some strange chance you should run across him, you had best think only good thoughts. Anything less than that is handled at your own risk, because if you do meet Anthony you can be sure of one thing: you have entered the Twilight Zone.
