Ironic since there are so many gay references in the bible - love your fellow man, anyone? - and not a single 'no homo.'

Well I'm glad, that all the gay people in the world won't have to put up with all that religious crap after death. I mean seriously - I really wouldn't want to go to heaven if these kind of people are getting in aswell.

God really needs to update his selection process for heaven and maybe install a firewall for use against twats.

And Jesus spake unto his disciples -
"Love your fellow man, but seriously bro, no homo"

Also, turn the other cheek has to be an innuendo.

Clever, clever. You lash out at all religion for some white-trash buffoonery! The problem isn't religion, its people. You act as if believers deny the truth, when you are refusing to believe that some people are just jerks.

what happened with dont judge or you will be judged?
what happened with looking at sawdust in eye of a brother and not noticing a whole f*** tree in your own?
what happened with the he who is without sin casting first stone?

read your own damn book before claiming who can and who can not get into heaven, for you are not the official gatekeeper of heavens, and frankly, by the standards of your own church you are a sinner.

Religion is people. It was made by people, for people and people use it. to say people are at fault for acting like that is the same as saying that religion is at fault. the people made that religion. Yes, many people are jerks, that has nothing to do with the fact of how religion pose bad influence. Belivers often deny the truth, thats why they are believers.

Good intentions always find a way of corrupting themselves...
Equally you could say that about the "good intentions" of many escapists here wanting to stamp out religion completely. I'm saying this as an Atheist.

Whyyyyy the sudden influx of homophobes though? I swear it wasn't this bad a few years ago.
Probably the recent flux of Gay Marriage bills attempting to be passed, and stuff like that is making the slimy gits crawl out of the woodwork to defend misguided values.

Dear religious fanatics

God is not a sword for you to use to insult others, harm others or impose your own values upon them.
God is not a shield you hold up when called out on these attempts either.

Love, a sane atheist.
But, but, but they have songs that say the opposite which makes their arguments stronger and more persuasive than mere logic and common sense.

The argument for eradicating all influence it has on politics the world over is a pretty strong one...

Well, it's important to teach kids these kinds of things while their brains are still soft and mushy for the molding.
If you try to teach it to them after they've gained the power of critical thinking they might just check out that book you keep talking about and notice that you're talking out of your ass.
Or if they really get into reading it and actually think for themselves for a bit, they might just stop believing in the book altogether. Now we wouldn't want that, would we?

*sigh*
Do we have to deal with this still?

I'm sorry to sound like a juvenile ass, but these kind of people really bring out the murderous rampage side in me.
The world would just be such a better place if we just offed them. Come on guys. You live in the states: getting hold of assault weapons is eeeeaaasy. Can't someone please take one for the team and just clean up that mess?

In theory if there was no religion, then people would just put one together anyway.

Even atheism is a religion of a sort, though one propped by a common disbelief.

...I really need to stop pulling all nighters, it makes me all philosophical.
I feel the need to question that 'Atheism is a religion' thing. There's an old quote that's been tossed around a lot, and I'm going to toss it up again. "If Atheism is a religion then not collecting stamps is a hobby." Even if you argue that Atheists have a creed or other such common belief, then it's simply a shared belief, and Atheism is still no more a religion than conservatism or feminism or transhumanism.
Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My usual argument/explanation is that religion is all about worship, and atheists never worship anything. BUt this is way more clever, and I'll start using it from now on.

Backlash. The very usage of terms like "homophobe" explains exactly why your seeing some major responses from the other direction. Basically it's an issue that has the US divided roughly 50-50, for a lot of differant reasons. The pro-gay movement has been increasingly offensive, belligerant, and unwilling to even consider the anti-gay side of things. Left wing media control helped maintain that and present the illusion that the anti-gay side of things was some tiny, fringe, majority, but as that was never the case your starting to see that side rallying and becoming increasingly vocal.

I'm pretty much at the center of the issue, whether anuyone wants to accept that or not, being in the middle between anti-gay and pro-gay. Being seperated from both sides (and disliked by both sides) it gives me a pretty clear perception of how things are moving. The left wing/pro gay side has had a lot of intertia, but intertia ultimatly fades, and your seeing the other side having rallied and it's likely to start pushing back big time. It may or may not happen, but I kind of figure you'll see the pro-gay movement gradually losing steam, and then things to start swinging back in a very anti-gay direction for a while. This will continue until all of the all or nothing "we will not negotiate on this issue" guys on both sides knock it off and meet somewhere in the middle, which will leave nobody really happey, but will throw a bucket of ice on the conflict.
Yet you forget that we only live once and the opposing side has no business even caring let alone holding the pro-gays back telling them how they should live their lives. It's their lives and their time on this world, if they have a problem with how the gays want to spend it then they can honestly shut up and go back to condemning them in their churches and private schools to promote their hatred. What if I were to say that the pro-gays demanded they cease anything to do with religion because it offends them? it would be the SAME thing. Good thing I'm canadian anyways, I don't have to worry about anybody telling how to live my life and if religion tried to make gay marriage illegal here they would be condemned and laughed at. You know why? because they should have NO power over law anyways!! religion + law = stupid!

There are 2 sides, however the one side is clearly WRONG

I certainly wouldn't call it child abuse. More like the parents teaching their child their own personal beliefs which they see as correct.
Yeah, this is exactly what I was thinking. It's a shame that they want their kids to be taught intolerance, but it's hardly any form of abuse. Just really, really stupid intolerant parents.

True, but people who think their idiocy is justified by an all powerful being are much more difficult to deal with than people who think their idiocy is justified by what someone else is saying.
You can prove that people are stupid. You can't prove old Beardy is stupid.

On the off chance that there actually is a Hell, I'd prefer to go there. Heaven will be full of arseholes if hating gays and hating contraception and hating plenty of other stuff for no fucking reason is one of the criteria for entry.

I wouldn't get into the habit of quoting reddit all the time but whatever. As that argument is straight out of r/atheism. Anyway back to the topic.

OT: Anyway I wish people would stop using religion as a shield for their crappy beliefs as it makes the rest of the normal religious people look like shit.
