I'm really not having any trouble downloading it. I didn't switch servers at all, and it's been downloading for maybe 10 minutes, it's at 25%.

Maybe I'm just lucky.
UK server was fine for me originally, but then it threw me off and never let me back in.

I think you guys will like the game.

It seems like a 3rd person, slower paced Left 4 Dead to me, but still very frantic and intense. I only played a single round of Offline Practice, and with that I noticed a couple little problems.

Each class has their own special perk, like distributing ammo or creating a healing area. The only problem is, I can't see any gauge or number saying how many of those you have left. So in the first half of the level, I used up all the ammo cases, and had to just hope there was ammo lying around somewhere. Also, the objectives don't seem clear enough to me, I missed a major objective where you have to "download data" from a computer, and got all the way to the end of the level, only to not complete the mission. I couldn't go back, since I was out of ammo, so I was screwed.

It's still tons of fun though, you guys will enjoy it, no doubt.

I'm actually downloading Steam for this because:
1) It's free
2) I'm really FUCKING BORED

I just hope my computer can run the damn thing. I can barely run Lost Planet on this thing.

I got 500KB/s from Manchester for a while, which then dropped to 14KB/s, so I switched to Poland and ran on a smooth 200KB/s until it finished downloading :)

It's out? Shit, I thought it was coming out later.

I'm going to go download it now.

Please ignore this post.
Do yourself a favour, set your download location to somewhere un-used you get about 30kb/s from london and manchester (UK)
I love you, you are awesome. I was downloading from London at 3kb/s, just changed to Cambodia WHAM 200kb/s.

I just finished downloading it from London with an average speed of 750kb/s. Took a couple of tries to get it started but third times the charm

My experience has been great. The biggest challenge I've found is trying not to shoot my teammates, though I recently got an achievement for having all four players not have a friendly fire incident and I was honestly surprised.

The game is fantastic, though, especially considering it was free. Took a while to download, though, but anyone having connection problems just give it a while and it will be all worth it.

You'll be bored a whole lot longer till the servers free up

Tried several times to play online with Cleril and others, but we could never connect.

The offline practice is really promising though, the minigun tears those things apart.

edit: The whole time with the minigun I was muttering Heavy lines to myself.

Entire Alien Swarm is BABIES.

Loving the hell out of it so far, I just hope they add at least one more campaign to it though, one isn't very many (though it's hard to complain when it's FREE).

The arc rifle is awesome in that it's impossible to cause friendly fire with it. It's a little weak and has a short range, but you can spray everywhere and not have to worry about collateral damage. It's great when you've set down a damage amplifier and the swarm is all over you.

After it told me the servers were too busy, I rapidly followed up my first attempt to download it five times, and now it's happily downloading away at 800kbps.

I guess you just need to try darting into an opening the second it's available.

How has your first experience with Alien Swarm been so far?
Watching the ungrateful people complain about it on Steam because the servers are busy, or their computer can't run it, or whatever. It makes me want to go out with a sledge hammer and beat these people because of how fucking ungrateful some of them are for a free game (not directed at you, just annoyed at some people).

Managed to play a couple of games before the servers stopped working for me, I'm enjoying it. It's good mindless fun.

Neat!

I'm new to Steam, I made an account JUST for this game, as you can tell I'm pretty new to the "Steam" experience.
Try to get Half Life 2: Deathmatch and HL2: Lost Coast those are fun games (should be free if you have Nvidia or ATI gpu) and good tests for your system with Source Engine based games, the former is all about the speed when a lot of stuff is happening, the latter (lost Coast) is all about the pretty.

But ideal purchase: Orange Box (IMHO)

but mainly keep an eye out for sales, some go unannounced. Add games to your wishlist and often check it, scrolling down to see if any has money off. I got Left 4 Dead 2 for only £6 in one sale.

Boring as I am near my monthly download cap and must wait until next month to get it.
The main problem I have with Steam. Literally half the games I have bought on Steam I cannot install because my bandwidth cap is so limited, and I am technically on "unlimited" even though that is actually a 100GB cap. I know, seems a lot, but with games like GTA4: Episodes being 16GB to download(!) and BBC iplayer and similar TV download services being my chief source of entertainment, it just isn't enough. I wish Steam could mail DVDs of the install content to me.

Hey... if SOMEONE ELSE with the same games as me backed up their games... could they physically give their back-up to me an I install from there!?!?

(if you CAN run Lost Planet, you should manage with a top down shooter like this)

Looks like Valve has proven there is no better publicity than handing out free stuff. I mean, what else would it have taken for you to give Steam a go?

It does have it's moments like this, when there's some idiot ignoring your presence and shooting right through you. Definitely a time to say:

http://www.motivatedphotos.com/?id=86126

But apart from that, it's not too shabby. Nice selection of weapons and classes to pick from. Very nice work with some of the hoards that can be shut off via welding a door shut....that's just plain inspired right there.
Overall...I like it! It feels like Shadowgrounds all over again except there's more of the bastards and you will die if you run off 'n play the frigging hero...well some of my team were but it's early days yet and we're all new to it
