Congratulations.

You've found the three different types of JRPG.

Congrats.

But really, the forum is for discussion, not "LOOK AT ME!"
See everything under my first post? Thats called a discussion.

Also, you are a ninja
All I'll say is that he doesn't like it when people joke about his username like that. Here, have a medkit.
In all seriousness, I'm scared of him now!

i don't believe the argument is "all jrpgs look the same" its more "all jrpgs are the same" i admit i am a final fantasy buff, (up to 8 and the MMOs) but all jrpgs go off the fundamental mechanics and generally never mix it up. (not saying that none of them mix it up but not commonly).

another argument to the "all jrpgs are the same" is most of it is watching a movie. no interaction cause they believe well screw up there precious story if we actually get to play the game"

anyway that's my two cents (flame shield 120% and holding) O.O

I'm not gonna get into it any further, JRPG's aren't my gaming forte, all I know is that I dislike them. Excluding Final Fantasy, I kind like those.
Your statement makes no fucking sense. You make a blanket statement that people who think FF is the only JRPG series say, and then say you like FF.

What JRPGs HAVE you played exactly?
Chronotrigger, Chocobo tales, Pokemon Last Remnant and Final Fantasy X and VII

Also the "Guy who looks like a chick saves the world" is pretty damn accurate.

Tidus.

Guy from the Last remnant from which I totally forgot due to me only playing it for an hour.

Everyone in final fantasy.

Ash Ketchum.

And the guy from Chrono trigger.
That's slightly less girly, but still. The Hair! The Haaaiiiir!
I like how you say "everyone in final fantasy looks like a girl" when these two are in them:

and

and thats just FFVII
Second one is excluded, that's a movie.

Also, as I clearly said JRPG's are NOT my forte, I am merely making an observation of everyone I've played.
Okay fine:

oh wait...

Okay, now try one of the main characters. In fact, it doesn't have to be Final Fantasy; try any other JRPG main character that looks as manly as Baret and Cid.

Hmm, you should have thrown Valkyria Chronicles in there too (JRP/Strategy cross).

Reminds me I've got to try and get a copy of Tales of Vesperia before it dissapears from the UK like Symphonia did.
Too late.

That's not a discussion, that's you simply stating something. Discussion is when there's something to talk about ohter than "I agree", "I disagree", or "I hate you with the burning passion of a thousand suns."

And you are neither funny nor original. Enjoy!
Maybe it's more of a court hearing then and everyone is just shouting "YAY" or "NAY"

I couldn't resist the ninja joke, don't hate me for my weak comedy!

I don't think they look the same, nor do they play out similarly. My beef with JRPGs lies in the lack of actual ROLE PLAYING GAME part of the genre. Eternal Sonata, awesome.

Alright, I'll give you a hundred points for being able to put your ego on hold, compared to every other screeching egomaniac on this forum.

I think people who say "all jrpgs look the same" are people who haven't played them to begin with.

For instance, people call them "grindfests" when they are actually thinking of MMORPGs (from Korea). In all the JRPGs I've played, there is very little grinding, unless you count going back and getting stuff that was previously unavailable (which is present in many games).
The grinding in JRPG's comes from the inevitable moment in all of them when following the linear story brings you a boss that's impossible to defeat at your current level, or because it has a ridiculously broken strategy you need a very specific combination of items to survive. You therefore have to go and spend a few hours levelling up to get past. It's something I've certainly experienced in a lot of the JRPG's I've played, although admittedly I've not played a lot of the "classics".

And while I wouldn't say they "all look the same", I do think there is a very similar design aesthetic to them, especially in modern JRPG's. Compare the main characters in the Last Remnant to Lost Odyssey to Final Fantasy's IX, X and XII to Enchanted Arms.

Another odd little gripe, why do heroes in JRPGs always look so western?

Admitedly, Street Fighter is a) not a JRPG and b)awesome, but look at Ryu. He does not look Japanese at all. He looks like a large caucasian.

How's that?
this is a stunning example of how you have to over compensate art style of anime to make a character look male

problem with anime is that its "cutsy" regardless of content generally (ill give credit to SOME characters in helsing) so unless you make a MANLY MAN with flat BIG chest plates, most characters look feminine, its the art style really. its hard to make a average male character unless you exaggerate a certain detail

Ok. Now go play Fire Emblem.

Go on. Grab the ROM and Emulator. I'LL WAIT.
Congratulations, you named ONE.

Give your self a medal. My statement still stands. Guy who looks like a chick saves the world.
