I didn't like Skyrim either, I did spend a lot of time with it but I couldn't stick with it to the end. Still play it occasionally on Steam and am going to start again when I find some of the better mods.

All my complaints are probably addressed through mods but for you console-ers, I really hate the combat system. The melee is just terrible, first person melee is hard but a big company should do better than a melee system of strike and dodge/block, needs combos, counters, its just horribly basic.

I completely agree there need to be some extremely strong bosses. And by strong, I don't mean ones that can kill you in two seconds, but ones that require strategy to take down. All the enemies in Skyrim just need to be attacked with basic attacks to kill, and most of them die fast, difficulty just determines how much health they have and how much damage they do, on the highest difficulty they need higher functions.

I think adding Rogue elements wouldn't help, the dungeons are so samey and boring I can't even bother to clear all the ones they already set up in the game.

Let me answer every single one of these complaints with one simple phrase: There's a mod for that.

No seriously, the modding community is utterly HUGE and is very likely to have something to address whatever complaint you may have with the game.
Maybe, just MAYBE, theres people like me that would want actual quality content from the real devs of the game instead something a fan made in their little time. I am not saying they are not capable, or that mods suck, but some people, some, SOME DAMNED PEOPLE, actually DONT want mods! I am sorry, but really is that HARD to understand?

A 100% no mods pc gamer here. (Ok more like 95%... Mods that fix game breaking bugs when the devs have done nothing to it, welcome. Everything else: Nope, rether wait for the actual devs for it).

Again, this is all IMO. If you like mods, go ahead and mod your game to hell and back. I wont kill you or anything for it probably, so yeah.

No, I'm serious.

TES4 had some GREAT quests that weren't all 'kill everything in catacombs A/B/C/Z'.
Morrowind's freeform-ness + Oblivion's quests + Skyrim's world design = a recipe for a hard-on.

Well, yeah. They're free. And a lot of them are quite excellent. You're acting like he pulled his dick out and slapped you in the face with it, when in reality there's really no reason to be "RAH NO MODS", especially when you're dealing with something with a community like Skyrim's.

Good dungeons you actually have to figure out (not just a linear path with a quick shortcut out)
Less hand holding (playing follow the quest compass is no fun)
this, but with some limits
they did great with the dungeon crawling in Daggerfall, but a lot of the time they became too much of a mess and you could fail quests while you were trying to escape the dungeon that you were sent to in that same quest
granted, it was a very atmospheric and immersive mess (like that one dungeon that's nothing but Nymphs), but it was still a mess

on a side note, I still remember the first time I arrived on Daggerfall City at night, before I got the levitation-enchanted equipment
lord knows how hard I shat myself

Quests is the only thing I go back on what I said about Oblivion about.

The quests where better. But unfortunately everything else was worse.

Yeah, I figured that out after I posted about it, sorry about that. But its quite annoying that when a game with a mod community, you say theres something wrong with the game, and "OMFGLOLWTF GET MOD NOW!!!!11" is the most used awnser. Maybe I dont wanna use mods, ok? Its just my opinion.

My problem with skyrim is that it's so big the world feels empty and void of life , at least in oblivion there were gates EVERYWHERE . Poping up from buttfuck nowhere . Skyrim is too big for it's own good . Not enough random dungeons and quests and monsters . I think TES next game should drop all story and jest make the most awsome adventure game ever . Just pure adventuring . Discovering a whole world with secrets and loot and bosss and mini bosses that hae nothing to do with anything . The motovation for the player would be to discover every nook and crany because there is awsome stuff to be found . Just go out , adventure and have fun . Forget the story , just EXPLORE. They'd have to make a world worth exploring though .

The biggest problem I had with Skyrim is one that's a bit trickier to fix. Namely, that all the major questlines were incredibly underwhelming. Poorly paced and underdeveloped to a one, and the thieves' guild... don't even get me started on it.

...May I make a suggestion?

Play a different game. If you're not having fun, then why would you play it? Or just hunt around for some mods that might work for you.
I agree with this suggestion generally, but in my opinion it only really works with F2P games. In the case of Skyrim, I paid 60 dollars for this thing, and it didn't interest me. That feels like a bit of a waste of cash for a poor ol' college student like myself. It's also a waste for anyone who doesn't have much disposable income.

Honestly, I'm not making fun, or trying to bash you, but that's my problem with that suggestion.

I have played something else though, it's called guild wars 2, and that's where I'll be staying for a good long time.

OT: Yes, Skyrim has issues, but I loved the frigid aesthetic they worked in there, and if the quests had been more like oblivions I would still be playing it today. I had over 400 hours in Oblivion throughout my time with it. It was awesome. I barely have 30 hours in skyrim, because I forced myself to play it.

hmm... off the top of my head:

make enemy npcs unable to killcam you

questline(s) where you fight/join the Thalmor

less of every faction being a total dickwad to the player character (so-called "moral ambiguity my ass)

big, physics-driven cloaks (yes, I am that easy to please)

less finicky menus (like, oh I dunno, Oblivions?????)

and of course A HALFWAY DECENT MAIN PLOT

now I love Skyrim to bits, but there's some seriously missed potential here

If it's not much of a TES game I can see why I like it then. I was wondering why I liked an Elder Scrolls game.

The traditional elder scrolls games were long-winded, boring and saddled with incomprehensible menus and item management systems (Skyrim isn't great on this either). Go ahead, go back and play some good one Daggerfall. You'll find things are not as rosy as you recall.

I'm a TES fan and I thought it was definitely a step forward from Oblivion. I guess my biggest gripe with the game was simply the similarity of most of the caves.

Other than that, solid TES title.

My only problem with Skyrim is that the actual quests were a bit more bland than Oblivion's. I had a lot fewer moments where I would finish a quest going WOW!

However when you were just diving into random dungeons and exploring. There were a lot of dungeons where I would go through a wide variety of foes. Like the one where I started in a cave fighting bandits, which then transitioned into a Dwenmer ruin with centurions that was overrun with Falmer on the lower floors.

Just port over Dark Souls' combat. There, 10 times better.
What? Light attack, heavy attack, dodge and block...it already has all those and more and is still boring.

I agree with those that have said a smaller world, bigger is only better when it's your bank balance.
The levelling up needs sorting because once you hit 100 in a skill it seems pointless to continue using it and all the skills a ridiculously easy to master.
Most of the items in the game are worthless and only clutter up your inventory.
Most of the quests have no worthwhile reward.
The perks are overpowered and break the challenge.
A better system for healing because pausing and eating is just silly.
A crafting and enchanting system that isn't so limiting and also broken.

Basically they got the dialogue and story right and fluffed almost every other aspect of the game. The chances of them changing anything with their current wave of popularity as high as it is though is unlikely. I enjoyed Oblivion but Skyrim is just more of the same with very little added to the gameplay. I'd like to see them innovate instead of regurgitate for once.
