Did anyoneelse get the hardback art book and if so what did you think of the art in it?
Naw, man. It's sold out in the US, but I've seen some scans, and it looks amazing. Typical ArenaNet's art staff.

I was bored and re-reading Which MMO Should I Play [http://pc.ign.com/articles/111/1116616p1.html]? on IGN (prompted by a different post), when I noticed some footage [http://www.ign.com/videos/2008/02/27/tabula-rasa-pc-games-trailer-trailer?objectid=16535] I hadn't seen before on the now-defunct MMO, Tabula Rasa.

Since that game was also made by NCSoft, I wonder if some of the abilities or mechanics described in there might be implemented in Guild Wars 2. In particular, that Gravity Well (black hole?). Tabula Rasa may not have survived, but those abilities are intriguing, and some could fit nicely into Guild Wars 2's gameplay.

Here's to hoping Mesmer can use a pistol! I just think it would be so cool. :p (And I don't think it is a too far-fetched idea)

there is chatter, rumoring a release date of January 2011. that seems too soon to me, but that's what folks are saying. I have not been able to find the site they were referring to, so i cannot confirm anything or quote the page.

I would think like either march, sometime Q1 or Q2 2011.

Beta testing

No release dates have been announced. Information released in the 4th Quarter 2009 NCSoft Report states that the "current development target for Guild Wars 2 is for the end of 2010 with the full commercial release taking place in 2011." Information gleaned from 3rd Quarter 2009 NCSoft Report specifically states that GW2 will likely have a public event in the form of a closed beta in 2010 with current projected release date in 2011. More information about the Guild Wars 2 beta testing and the game's release can be found at the FAQ page.

In a short interview with the Development Team, Eric Flannum stated:
"...our timeline to beta has been a bit slower than we'd originally hoped."
IGN [http://pc.ign.com/objects/896/896298.html] Reports a release date of November 2, 2011.

GameStop [http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=guild%20wars%202] Still maintains a November 2, 2010 release date.
("Pre-order ships Nov. 2, 2010", whatever that means.)

The general consensus among game sites is GW2 will release in 2011, but nobody knows exactly when.

GW2 will probably be my first attempt at getting into MMOs (excluding Runescape, but that was terrible) unless i start playing LOtRO but the whole get the full game then never play again sounds pretty chill, and will probably get a few more sales just out of interest.

of coarse, how they plan to keep the servers up without monthly fees is unknown to me but if they can make it work i'll be happy.

That IS kinda funny. I think it will be somewhere between GameStop's and IGN's estimates. (haha! get it?)

I'm just hoping they add something new to the NYCC demo this weekend. That would be awesome.

Dude, I never noticed how there was so much information. Seeing it all in one place makes me think of how massive Guild Wars 2 is going to be. Anyway, the first spoiler says Tria, not Tyria. Nice thread, but not much discussion value.
It's not really a thread made for discussion value it's a thread made to keep you updated on the game.

OT: this game is just looking better and better i can't wait for it. I want it right now :(

they have a system to keep bandwidth usage low, they created themselves.

They accutaly said in a interview, that most game developers if they tell you, that you are paying for bandwidth, its a lie.

So... a little more speculation today: The Crusader:

In the Guild Wars book, Ghosts of Ascalon (good book, btw. y'all should read it), several characters are referred to as "Crusader". Now, the narrative makes it clear that this is a rank in a certain order, but what if it is also a new Class? The archetypal "holy knight" paladin could fit pretty nicely into the "damage-control-support" structure, and be a nice replacement for the Monk class.

The Crusader could borrow some from the Diablo 2 Paladin for its special mechanics, Auras. I believe it'd be like party/ally wide buffs that would apply simply by being near the Crusader. Think sort of a cross between the Guild Wars Paragon and the Diablo 2 Paladin.

The Crusader's arsenal should focus more on the Mace or Hammer than swords, with the option for caster weapons like the Staff. The Crusader should also have some unorthodox weapon combos like dual wielding Scepters or Pistol and Shield (I'd say not double pistols). For longer range, a crusader would have a Rifle to play with, being already proficient with pistols, but also would have limited casting options.
Main Hand: Sword, Scepter, Pistol, Mace.
Off Hand: Scepter, Mace, Shield, Focus, Torch.
Two Handed: Hammer, Greatsword, Staff, Rifle.

Crusader skills would likely revolve around magically-enhanced melee and mid-range attacks. It would also be primarily support and control-focused, with skills to physically push around the foe and buff allies.

Possible problems: there is nothing "holy" regarded by the Asura and especially the Charr. Making skills and abilities around prayers and such wouldn't make much sense among those races. Surely there are ways around it...

Those that wanna see what they're gonna get in GW2 (assuming they've played the first game) should check this [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/hall-of-monuments/] out, if it isn't on the front page of this topic already.

oh yeah checked that out, its kind of hard to say it but I will add to the front saying something like...

"If you played the first games, EoTN expansion, from your titles you get rewards in GW2, this doesn't end when GW2 comes out."
