I had something serious to say, but now my mind is full of scantily clad ninja's fighting in in an epic god-ending battle.

So yeah, um... good for the Iranian president who's name I can't spell?
Ah. Mad. In. Ejad. Three English words and one that kinda looks like "Egad" but isn't.

Good mnemonic?

Lets not lump "Europe" into one lump.

It's an idiotic move by the French, I'll go all the way to say "batshit" to be frank. If anyone was going to do it, it would be the French.
It'll end up in another war of sorts.

(Take note France, you fucking suck at warfare. Do your usual trick and give up now, that's right wave your arms in the air like you just don't care.)
Fair call. Europe is a big place.

I don't think many of the other European nations have many Muslims though. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Lots of Turks in both Germany and Sweden.

I applaud France for doing the right thing. There are laws put down in countries which are constantly bent and broken for people of a certain religious belief and its ridiculous. The law here states that you cannot vote unless your face is clearly showing for sake of identification, yet you believe in this or that god and you can just completely break the law/rule everyone else follows? It makes no sense.

You want to come to a new country to escape oppression, or just better your life than fine. But if you can't abide by the rules of the country because of the way you lived in your old country than maybe you should re-think which country you should really be living in.

Fuck Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Sure it was cool of Hitler to help reduce smoking...but hes still a horrible person. Ahma is no different.

That aside, while at work the rules are rules, when not working, people should be allowed to wear pretty much anything they want. Sure there are some exceptions, like guns, or 20 inch sharp spikes while ruding a crowded train, but otherwise, people should not be restricted of their clothing. Though I do not think this in religion's favor, more for "weirdo's" favor. (Think along the lines of The Ramones and other counter culture stuff)

Actually, France has a pretty decent military history. They don't "suck" at warfare, to put it another way.

Why should people not be allowed to wear guns? Guns for everyone! Strap on a stylish, rifle for a night out on the town. Grab your Glock for a friendly party among friends. Styles available to fit all your needs!

Because the people who want to are nuts, and while I am unsure of people owning guns at home, I am definatly against people just walking around with guns on their hips, even if just handguns.

And Denmark, and they control certain areas aswell. Denying/assaulting firemen to come in and extinguish fires that were set etc.

Too add a little humour to the whole thing:

Well let's hope we don't live anywhere close to each other, because that is exactly what I do. I have a concealed handgun permit and I am pretty much always carrying. Guess that makes me nuts huh? Good to know.

What? Ahmadinejad is making some sense?

I sense a clever scheme in all of this, though, although I'm still not sure what it will entail.

As many liked to point out at one point, I was generalizing. Maybe you are nuts, maybe not. But I would become extremely uncomfortable if I was say, on a bus or something with you and I realize you had a gun on your persons and you were not a cop or something.

I understand how uncomfortable guns can make people, which is why even through Washington is a traditional open carry state without laws restricting open carry (aside from the normal restrictions - not in banks, post offices, schools, and courthouses) I still won't strap it to my hip and walk around town.

Strangely guns being a more common sight is actually the solution to the public anxiety towards them when one is visible. You wouldn't feel threatened in that same way if the person had a hunting knife strapped to their belt, even through that is a weapon as well. You don't have the same fear becasue you are more familiar with knives. Knives you see all the time, there is not mysticism about them, they are not a rare sight in person, not the same level of lore about them.

I could also go on and on for pages about how there is no real correlation between homicide and violent crime rates and gun laws in countries, but that's not what this thread is about, if you are interested PM me and I can share.

Now if the gun was out of it's holster pointed at you by a crazy man talking to an invisible friend, by all means feel as anxious as you want to.

This isn't about ninjas, or Muslim women, or Allah---well, not directly. See, France banned the wearing of full-length Muslim veils a couple of days ago, continuing to take what can be seen as a hard line on reining in their Muslim population.

I live in the United States. My country's religious intolerance has reached a point where even Mahmoud Ahmadinejad felt it necessary to stand up for the bulk of my countrymen. Seriously. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is talking sense. [http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/28405/ahmadinejad-islamic-countries-not-against-america/] And in the process he's probably saving American lives as fighters in the region take his counsel, which is more than Rev. Terry Jones (who ought to be shot as an enemy combatant for causing US soldier deaths in Afghanistan) can say for himself.

France, meanwhile? Poking the dog with a stick and seeing if it will bite. Europe is supposed to be this enlightened place, yet France quite possibly leads the world in religious intolerance. Not that I mind---anything that takes the heat off the good ol' USA can only be a good thing, but seriously, people.

For discussion: Aw, fuck it. Open thread. About ninjas, Muslims, and ninjas fighting for Allah.
How ironic that you speak of the intollerance of others in such an equally bigotted manner...this is why we never seem to make progress in finding a middle ground. Founded statements that are not merely over-generalizations or hyperbole and a lack of little less demeaning tone will go a long way.

While certain actions of provocation are contemptable, we must also be examining the reasoning behind some of them. If a person walks around with thier face covered in my neck of the woods, often they are up to trouble (they do not want to be IDed)...it is unfortunate that this is in conflict with Islamic tradition. However, France does not have our Constitution or Bill of Rights, so if you dont like thier policy, dont live or do buisness there. I dont think they are "reigning in the muslim population" so much as covering security detail. I would look into what arguments were on the floor for passing such a law before assuming that must be the case.

Personally I do not think America is as intollerant as you say, it is simply that the loudest assholes tent to make headlines. If one man kills 1000 children and 5 million people do not, that one man makes the news. Also, why is Europe more enlightened...so far as I see, they make as many mistakes as any other civilized peoples.

Terry Jones has the right to do as he pleases in religious expression, political protest, etc. and that is his right since he lives in the USA. Spouting that he should be shot isnt productive. What would be is a concerted effort by fellow Christians to expose his behavior as decidedly UNchristian and undermine his following as they realize he leads them astray. Law does not enforce tact, but social pressure does.

Women in burkas are horribly inefficient ninjas. They're always weighed down by up to five children, usually cackling with a bunch of other burka women also with up to five children; one in a pram and four running around getting their hands caught in things.

It is not Terry Jones' decision to burn a Quran (which yes, he did retract, but only under very heavy pressure) that makes me say he should be shot dead where he stands.

His decision, picked up by the media and learned about in the Arab world, led to at least 14 confirmed casualties when Afghan rebels used it as a rallying cry for an attack on a US military post in Afghanistan. It was an attack caused directly by Jones's actions, making him no better than an enemy combatant. As the saying goes, "if you don't want to stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them."

Terry Jones rendered aid to the enemy in wartime (indirect aid, but aid nonetheless) leading to the death of soldiers on our side. He is a despicable, disgusting man, and sometimes it's necessary to make an example of such a person. A public execution might undo some of the damage---although as I mentioned, even Mahmoud Fucking Ahmadinejad felt it necessary to say something!
