Cole and Baird from Gears, they made me laugh. Also Tennenbaum from Bioshock, British SAS from CoD4, and Dutch, Mickey, and Buck from ODST mostly because I loved Firefly.
Loved Alyx from Half-life 2 + episodes (the ending of Episode 2 nearly had me in tears, the only game or movie ever to do so), and Dogmeat from Fallout 3. Liked Sheva (RE5) too, she was fairly useful. Otherwise, I prefer the lone wolf approach.
the Sgt. from CoD WaW... he would pick up grenades all the time, and he said where the enemy was(not that it was right, at least he tried), and he was a fine meatsheld... besides from that, the NPC it this game sucks ass... I think I killed more americans than the japanese all by myself(your aiming at an enemy, and a moron of a ally runs headfirst into your line of fire.)they also said when the enemy couldn't see through the smoke I just trew, which would make me jump our from cover, and get mowed down by a machinegun dude...

Ratchet is okay, but my favorite is either the sentry or dispenser from TF2, for ultimate firepower and balls out lack of fear, respectively. The holy knight girl from Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX, I think it was Aegis or something?) was pretty badass, as well.
