Honestly, I prefered Dubs, but only so I can play a game at the same time (I multitask). I don't begrudge anyone subs

Anime is another medium. I don't get why people act like its not. What makes it so different from gaming? Movies? Music? Books? What, that it's Japanese? That's it? Because pretty much only the shit comes to the West?
Either way, enjoying anime is nothing special. It's like enjoying a good book, movie or game. So stop acting like its something completely separate.

But I don't have any odd cosplay sensations such as that. The furthiest I would go currently is Hei from Darker than Black in his Black reaper gear... OH GOD I'M STARTING TO SOUND LIKE MY ANIME OBSESED FRIENDS!

Just remember, Anime is just like any other medium. Sturgeons Law is in full effect, but there's enough good to cancel out the bad. Darker Then Black is an excellent show, so it helps that you started with a gem instead of watching a few too many episodes of Dragon Ball Z and deciding that all anime is shit. If you think that you'd really enjoy sci-fi based action series (like DtB), then you might want to try Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex or Phantom: Requiem For The Phantom.

As one other person stated, Anime is a medium, much like books/comics/video games/ non animated shows, ect. are.It reall is a pity more people don't realize this, and dismiss cartoons soley because of how it looks.


Anime has spawned some surprisingly awsome stories like Darker Than Black (Which is awsome). OP! I would suggest you also check out Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (The GITS Series inspired the movie series "The Matrix") and Black Lagoon... Along with Fullmetal Alchemist, Gurren Lagann, FLCL, and Baccano.

If your feeling REALLY 'brave' and want to challenge your conceptions of medium, try watching When They Cry (Higurashi)... Watch the first 4 episodes before passing judgement.

Also, if you can find the Street Fighter 2 movie that capcom made, its a clear example on how to do a movie about a fighting game RIGHT. With something like that floating around, im not sure how live action versions manage to fail CONSISTANTLY.

I feel the same way. Up until now, I only watched a few episodes of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but I sorta just stopped watching it. I watched a bit of Hellsing on Youtube, now bam, I'm watching the OVA. Granted, some anime (FLCL, Panty and Stocking) seem too over-the-top-random even for me, but I think Hellsing will be just right.

Nothing wrong with finding new interests, I personally didn't care about Lovecraft until recently, and now I very frequently reference it in normal conversation.
Although, still not a big anime person. The closest I've ever gotten, like you, is Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh when I was little.
As for magna, I don't care for it either. However, I have read a few things by Junji Ito, only after I heard how absolutely disturbing everything he does is. I doubted that, and I was truly getting bored until those people just had to open that tub... *shudders* Then I was genuinely sickened, disturbed, and intrigued all at once and I read a ton of it within a short time period. Other than Uzumaki and Amigra Fault (DRR... DRR... DRR...), I've never been in to magna, or comic books/graphic novels in general. The only one of those I've read was Watchmen, and I still skipped all those "Black Freighter" comic within a comic parts.

If you're open minded and watch shows from many different countries, you'll find that you enjoy many different formats. It doesn't mean you're a strict anime fanboy, it means you're more open to other cultures.

Be open minded and watch things from lots of places, not just your own language. I believe I've seen movies and TV shows produced on every continent except Antarctica (March of the Penguins was only filmed there).

Alright, so their is this girl I like who is really into anime and manga and stuff like that. So I thought I'd give it a second look. I watched shows like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon when I was a little kid, but that was about as far into the anime subject I ever got. So I decided yesterday to do research on Manga (All suggestions coming from members of this site) and because they are books, I wouldn't be able to check any out until I get back to my highschool and go through the Manga section in the school library. But as I was searching for intersting things, I decided to talk to my friend who really liked one particular anime, so I asked him the title of it.

So I got the title (Darker than Black) and watched the first 4 episodes on youtube...
After about 20 minuites of just sitting in my couch thinking... I realised I liked it... Not just liked, I fucking really enjoyed it.

I never was the biggest fan of anime, and for godssakes I have no Idea what the hell is going on. I watched a couple more anime shows I overlooked and enjoyed those too. I still don't get it.

the big thing is you watched a good one first thats how they get ya Darker than Black is a dam godd one and alot of fun if you had watched a rubish one first you would not be liking it at all

Welcomes out of the way, get the Ace Attorney games for the DS or Wii if you own either, preferably the international edition. They're like "Escape From Monkey Island" and "Law and Order" had a manga baby, with a fraternal twin soundtrack brother.

Also, the more I kick it around in my head, the more I realize, anime has probably fueled my love for Doctor Who. Both tend toward the completely asinine, and I adore them for it.

(I'd later love pokemon for team rocket but anyhow)

I find that that series is much improved when you view it from a meta standpoint. The Rockets are really the protagonists, (Given that they're the only characters with any depth, this isn't much of a stretch.) And the Tweenagers are the villains, so diabolical that they have actually stolen the air time from our heroes.

Personally, I've gotten to the point that I prefer manga over actual anime. This is largely due to many animes being based off mangas and if you want to see the most up to date story without filler (especially bad in long series like Bleach and Naruto) you have to find the mangas. I've also found some surprisingly good mangas that even I was surprised that I read and liked.

For example, Bitter Virgin. Generally, I prefer more action in my anime, but, while skimming a manga list on a site that I frequent, the title caught my eye, largely due to it's status as "completed". On a whim, I decided to click on it and read it's summary. When I realized it was just some stupid love story, I considered backing up and skimming the list some more, but decided that I would read the first chapter just to say that I had. Fast forward about an hour and I had read the whole 30ish chapter series. And I actually wanted to read more about the characters.

I guess my point is that even those of us who are anime/manga fans, and have been for years, find little things that surprise us every so often. The most important thing is to keep an open mind.

Oh, and keep in mind that you probably watched the 4kids version of Yugi-Oh and Pokemon. 4kids doesn't have a very good name with most anime fans. At least, not any that actually know what they do to the shows.
