Half of my problem is a religious upbringing. Now I don't think you should wait till you get married, but I do think you should wait till your in love. If your going to spend the rest of your life with her, its the same as getting married i say.

Marriage is just legal bullshit.
1. You're right, the bible doesn't say anything about premarital sex. It says "don't be promiscuous." It just depends on how you define promiscuity.

2. You're wrong about marriage. It's making an official announcement to the world that you're serious as hell about this person. If you're not married people think "they must not care that much," and in all honesty they're probably right.

Back to the OT:

You are in the minority, but don't let that affect you because most people are idiots (see also: "common sense is commonly wrong.")

Kids want to have sex because it's fun, exciting, and a way to express their adulthood. You can do all kinds of fun and exciting things that express your adulthood that don't involve bringing new life into the world.

I had sex when I was 16 and I don't regret it because I actually married that chick, one and done. It could so easily turn the other way though so be very careful. It's a complicated decision and it's a very valuable experience either way.

I would only recommend waiting until you're in a meaningful relationship. Anything less will feel cheap and you'll probably regret it. Remember this is a BIG DEAL so don't waste it on a tramp at a party ;-D

A question I've been dwelling over for some time now. I'm sure we all have noticed the growing promiscuity of teenagers and I'm just wondering, why? Why is sex something that is sought out so much after by any means? It seems like average teen just wants to have sex as soon as possible and doesn't matter who it's with.

Now I'm not saying everyone is like this, just it seems that a lot of people (at least where I live) are.

I've never really been one for the whole sex thing. It's not that I'm gay, don't care or asexual even, I just want to wait for someone I love before I have sex. After reading a few studies and surveys showing that the average person loses their virginity between 15 -17, I can't help wonder if I'm really the only one who wants to wait or if I'm just missing out on it by being so uptight.

Now I will admit that I had sex once in my life. It ended horribly and I deeply regret because I was in love with the girl and it turned out, she didn't even remotely feel the same about me and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who feels it would be best to wait.

Please note that my feelings towards sex has absolutely nothing to do with any religious beliefs. I'm also not saying there should be a certain age or you should wait till marriage. Just until you're actually in love. Not the bullshit that teenagers feel when they like someone, but actual love.

So, Escapist, what are your thoughts on this? Am I just being uptight when it comes to the subject or am I in the right for thinking this?

Also, for anyone who's wondering, I'm 16.
Na, dude i'm fucking 20 and still a virgin (cue the weird glance of the masses) but yes a virgin tru and tru meaning nothing besides me and my hand tonight (clever pun.)

So I can relate to the story... sort of.

Without meaning to sound vindictive, I think it depends on the setting to make the sex. I'm only 22, am still in the single digits for the number of partners I've had, but I've worked out a little something

Example: I lost my virginity to a girl I was in love with at the age of 18. And I, naturally, loved it. She had been with someone before and could hence gave me some guidance.
However, the second girl I slept with was on the rebound, and it was horrid, an event I regret.

But then I look at the forth girl I was with, was in love with her, but in hindsight, I really wish I hadn't have been. Then there was lost-count-th girl, with whom the sex was casual but stunning and I was loving that.

I guess what I'm trying to describe is that plenty of scenarios for sex are brilliant. And plenty are the basis for a nightmare. So no, while I don't blanketly agree with your view, OP, I cant imagine you are the minority. Something I've realised with my current girlfriend is that sex+love = awesome

I am completely with you on this, I've had sex with one girl, lost my virginity at 17 and as it stands right now, we're happily engaged. I'm not one to say "wait until marriage", but atleast wait until you're certain you want a decent relationship with the person

you should do it when you feel you're ready. that's all I have to say, but what you SHOULD do, and what people DO do are very different... its a result of society I think, kids are exposed to it earlier and they think it's just the bomb and all run out to try it..

Sex is an awesome thing, but not if you have no feelings for the person you're shagging. Then it's just sort of pathetic and depressing.
For you, or is that how you see it? If you've got personal things that make you feel depressed afterward then I'll respect that, otherwise:

It's deeply pleasurable and a fun thing to do, saying it's sad and pathetic comes off as an odd thing to say, while yeah I'd rather do it with a person i'm in love with because it's more sensual but when I feel like a random fling because I'm sick of making love to my right hand I'd hardly call it sad and pathetic.
I've been sexually involved with people I liked and people I didn't particularly like, and I felt mildly disgusted after the latter. They weren't bad-looking or anything, it just felt like a very empty experience compared to sex with people who I really liked. Maybe that's just me, though.
Yeah that's fair enough, it isn't quite the same as doing it with people you really like, i'll go for that.

I'm interested in how your sex ended horribly.

The taboo factor being just one of them.
yeah the age for that in new zealand is 16 so yeah ... usually you can go to a concert , speak to someone and get carried away ... and lots of places are "rather boring" so lots of people drink and smoke at young ages. I also HAD to dump my ex at the time cuz all she wanted to do was make me food and touch me , it was nice for the first week but when we were in public it was sooo sad =.=
