My problem with Nintendo is that instead of copying what the industry is doing they are just copying what they have already done in the past. I have never owned a Nintendo console because I am not interested in their established IP but I would love to see them take some risks and try to make some games with proper mature themes and stories that no other console really has. By all means keep making Mario, Zelda Etc but just try something different bring in some new fans with something new and exciting and stop focusing so much on trying to innovate solely with hardware, I would rather see a risk free console with risky games than the other way around.

They support the Bayonetta 2. They are OK in my book. Other than that I would thank them for Metroid franchise...but yeah.

no you are never the only one i am sure if we scraped around the dregs of society and in the deepest darkest holes in the worst prisons known to man kind and right at the bottom of the dirtiest barrel in the nastiest fishing port on earth we are sure to come up with maybe 2 or 3 other people who have at least a modicum of love for Nintendo :p

Paper Mario: Sticker star was different, yes, but that doesn't make it a bad game. The writing, as always, was enjoyable, and the gameplay, though simplified, was still very enjoyable, and much more well-suited for the portable 3DS as opposed to the more in-depth console titles.
Yes, that makes it a bad game. They took out the experience, the leveling, the partners, the badges, FP and original characters/locations. Every attack was a consumable. What we are left with is not an RPG at all. The gameplay was broken, you were better off NOT going into battle and just hoarding your best stickers. How does that make sense?

I have seen alot of people say the game is well suited for the 3DS, just what the fuck does that mean? I can put the 3DS into sleep mode at any time, no matter what game I am playing. If they ported Thousand Year Door to the 3DS, I could still put it down at any time. You don't need to dumb down a game to put it on the 3DS.

As for the other two games you mentioned, both had control issues and whether you had those issues or not, you can't deny that alot of people did. Nintendo needs to stop with the control gimmicks, the Gamecube controller was damn near perfect but since then they have gone backwards. Think about it, how many Wii games had you holding the controller sideways to emulate an NES controller? How is going from the Gamecube controller to the NES controller not backwards?

Their games are still selling fine, yes?

Unless they've suffered some severe downturn of which I am unaware then, no, you are by no means the only one who still likes their stuff.

Personally I regard Nintendo games as generally fun and well made, if a bit stale. I simply lost interest in them as I got older.

Okay, this is completely off topic and if I'm wrong then you're going to wonder what the hell I'm talking about, but....

Are you that guy who used to have an account here with the username "Totally Heterosexual"?

I did used to like Nintendo, but it seems as every year passes, I have less Incentive to buy anything from them and give me more and more reasons to start hating them.

I empathize with you OP? On this site Nintendo fans are ranked somewhere between Nazi's and the AIDS virus. Stay strong my comrade.
I hate to think where Sonic fans would be put on this scale then O.O

OT: No, I still really enjoy Nintendo stuff. Can't wait for the new Pokemon game on 3DS (despite playing Pokemon since the first gen, judging by the the vocal parts of the internet liking anything past 1st/2nd Gen is just wrong apparently!), Rayman Legends on the Wii U, and a variety of other games as well. And the Wii U is a fantastic console as well.

Never ask "Am I the only one" on internet... You never are.
I still like Nintendo, in a sense. I can only take it in small portions every weekend with a at least one sane and disposable friend. That kind the only use for Nintendo... With a friend or friends.

I used to love Nintendo but the style of games I prefer has changed since I was a kid. Thats all there is to it really.

The only exception to this rule would be the occasional blast into Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

I enjoy what Nintendo's put out recently (having a blast with Skyward Sword, even though the controller response isn't the best). The thing about Nintendo is this: they know their hardware inside and out, and because of this they're able to put out masterpieces even with weird control setups like the motion and tablet controls. Third-party support on the other hand? Between yet another different system architecture to develop for and strange input methods, the picture there is decidedly grim. My point is that they've pretty much segregated themselves to a niche market or two, even though it's not a very small niche. If you don't fall into either the family/party games niche or the NEStalgia market, then chances are you won't like them much. Unfortunately it leaves out a large number of otherwise willing customers who just want to play some games with a comfortable controller like the Gamecube crowd.

Does this mean I support their more recent trends? Not really: for example, I'd love to play Skyward Sword with Wind Waker controls. I do understand why they're doing this though: we're at a point where photo-realism can be achieved easily with our current tech(look at games like Far Cry 3 for example) and Nintendo is looking for the next big thing. They're probing around the market for ideas on how to improve the experience for all. The wii in this regard was something of both a success and a failure: yes, it made some games more accessible to outside crowds, but at the same time it made core games less immersive due to a rather intrusive UI. Gaming from the start has been a sedate activity for as long as most of us can remember: with exceptions of course, but for the most part gaming usually involves sitting down in the chair and pressing buttons on a gamepad to move things onscreen.

Nintendo has always been about innovating on this front and making some good games to go with it: The Super Nintendo added more buttons to the controller, allowing you to do more stuff. The N64 was the first big console to use an analog thumbstick: an industry standard today. The Gamecube's controller was all about ergonomics, which was a capitalization on what the started in the SNES era. Let's face it: the NES controller was basically a brick, and it was about as comfortable to hold as one. They realized this and helped make gamepads some of the most ergonomic pieces of hardware that we have today. Even the tablet with the WiiU is a win is this regard: it pretty comfortable to use (and that comes from someone with relatively small hands). Right now I'm interested to see what they'll pull off with the WiiU: we've got a relatively comfortable controller, and it also has an additional input method: will it be like the next analog stick or will it be as annoying as the wiimote? We've already seen some pretty cool and immersive things done with the system, and being able to play a full-on console game away from the TV is pretty great. I'm hopeful that someone will pull something awesome out of this, even if it's a one-off. At least now there's a chance we can get a DS/3DS player like our old game boy players.

So in short: I like Nintendo about as much as I did when I was a kid: and like those days, I have some high hopes for them. I'm not expecting a ton, but with what I am expecting, they're sure to deliver on.

How can a console be fun and challenging? Especially challenging? It's a console! That's like saying this CD player has a good beat to it. It makes no sense.

As long as I've still got at least one other console that understands what I want in a console is for it to get out of the way and let me play a game, I don't care what Nintendo do.
I had to dig out my Escapist account to reply to this... This console you speak of, that shuts up and lets you play your game, is the Nintendo one. The others are so up to their heads with achievements! trophies! messages! DLC! new releases! spend more money on Xbox Live Gold! and even more on PlayStation Plus! that it's soothing when I turn on my Wii U, boot up New Super Mario Bros. U or ZombiU and there's nothing to bug me, other than the mild social features in the games.

I'm not saying that the extra online features on the other consoles are bad. But if your favorite experience is "you and your game", it's the Nintendo system you're looking for.

As for the OT, I'm obviously still a big fan of Nintendo's work. I enjoy playing on my PS3 and my PC, but their offer of pure bliss gaming is much smaller than the Nintendo systems'. They might have more great games, but Nintendo still delivers my favorite ones. That's not to say I don't disagree with some of their decisions, of course.

I don't hate Nintendo.
I just dislike some of the decision, as a company, they make.

They allowed Samus to be turned into a bimbo retard, instead of the bad ass independent women she seemed to be.

They seem to be unwilling or unable to bring back some of their class series (1st and 3rd party).

They brought out the 3DS, which is nothing more then gimmicky crap that makes my head hurt.

They don't seem to understand how to make a digital store, even after all the good examples already out there.

They don't seem to want my money when they release a console without an internal/dedicated HARDDRIVE - not some SD card.

I don't 'hate' Nintendo.
I just wish they had the BALLS they used to back in the days of the SNES or even the N64.

Well after lunch it usually tells some very nice jokes and it likes having a drink or two during the weekends
Then again during night it tries to strangle me and shit, like it's possessed or something
It's a Love and Hate relationship I have with it

I wouldn't say I hate Nintendo, I just haven't wanted to but one of their products for almost a decade....
