I'm... wow... really?

The OP phrased his "challenge" with tongue firmly planted in cheek, so I don't know why everyone is so aggressive and combative in their responses. Wait, yes I do know why. It's the internet, and people pounce on anyone for saying anything ever. I try not to even start threads on this forum anymore because people actively misconstrue things, even in the presence of plain language, for the express purpose of picking a fight or acting the contrarian. It's pathetic.

"OMG, that's like your opinion, dude!!!" No shit. He's assigning value to a piece of entertainment media. When has that ever not been an opinion? Why does it even need to be labeled as such? Are people worried someone might confuse his statements for fact? Really, there's no reason to say this EVER in threads of this nature.

"FFS, bro, of course you're not the only one, you arrogant douche!!!" No shit. Ever heard of hyperbole? You think he's honestly worried that no one else dislikes the game as he does? You think he's genuinely concerned that he's all alone in his views? He's expressing his suspicion that he might be in the vast minority when it comes to his appraisal of this game.

It's a thread asking people both supporters and haters to provide reasons why this game did and did not work for them, respectively. If you don't want to participate, don't reply and the thread will fall off the front page. If you're still interested in this game and want to discuss or debate its merits, do reply. Pretty fucking simple.

My take on DA:O? Didn't do it for me. Way too safe - cliches abound, from characters to settings to dialogue. The combat was repetitive, and the game felt restrictive. More than anything, it wasn't fun for me.

All of this, incidentally, is my opinion. I wouldn't want anyone to confuse me for God, whose opinions are facts.

ITT: Opinions!

Why the hell should I prove you wrong? You're entitled to your opinion. You don't like the game? It doesn't stand up to the personal taste you've developed. What, would you like a cookie?

And no, you are never the only one. Why must everyone start so many threads like this? It's pissing me off...
and we have a winner... best comment i have seen all day
also yes you are entitled to you opinion but there will always be other who will want to argue with it

I went one step ahead saw I wouldn't like it in advance. Doesn't make it a terrible game, means I wouldn't like it. It's functional, contains stuff one person may not like and another might love.

So the statement it's a terrible game isn't really justified in this case.

Why should I bother to prove you wrong? In my eyes, it was one of the best RPGs I have played, right up there with KotOR. If you don't like it, that's your problem, not mine.

On a side note, I've seen like 20 threads over the past couple of days starting with "Am I the only one" and to that I have to say no, you are never, ever the only one for anything.

People are 'so aggressive and combative' in their responses because they actually like the game, and when everyday one of these "Am I the only one?" threads pops up it annoys the hell out of me. And what did your reply have to do with statement?

There was a lot about it that I liked, and on the other hand, some things that really irked me. I think it was a good experience overall, and I don't regret buying it. However, I feel like I've enjoyed other games more and that something vital was missing. I think it's the fact that I never got a good handle on the combat system. I'm not sure whether you can blame the game for that, or blame the gamer, or the system (I played it on the 360, apparently PC is better and easier) but in the end, combat became a bit of a chore.

But that's just my experience. I know other people had a blast with it.

I can say it sucks. Everything fantasy-related feels disgusting. Gotta love my genes.

No, you're not the only one, I didn't like it either. The battles had some fun things, but the exploring was dull (nothing interesting to explore in the first place), the story was predictable and I just didn't have any incentive to bother with any sidequests (go there, kill/talk with that, come back). Neverwinter Nights was IMO much more interesting.

That said, opinions, why bother debating them...

I could give a whole thing about what I thought was wrong and how it just didn't come together, but it would be very generic.

BOTTOM LINE: I didn't think it was a good game.
You now have two choices:
Agree-Say what you didn't like about it or why it didn't DO IT for you.
Disagree-Prove me wrong.

I've played through its(LONG) entirety albeit not every class or race.
I didn't hate it. There were parts that were enjoyable (mostly the end and beginning).
It did drag on a bit, andf the story got kind of crazy halfway through. I loved the characters (who didn't try and seduce Morrigan?) and the overall setting.
The graphics were great, but what really ruined it for me was the crazy steep difficulty curve that would fluctuate whenever it felt like it.
I don't agree with you that it was a bad game. It was still above average but it certainly had alot of problems.
-edit-
It was lightyears ahead of anything Mass Effect II had to offer, which is a shame as the first provided quite an experience.

/facepalm

Are you an idiot or is this a joke question?

How can you be the only one? Eh? How? Do you really think that's likely?

I, for one, loved it.

Coming from someone who hated it for months...I fucking love it.

Sure, the combat system is balls but it's not all that bad. What I really dislike (with Bioware games in general) is the linearity of it. You can't freely explore the world, you are set on linear paths, you can't jump...

Bethesda needs to handle the gameplay for RPG's and Bioware the story.
You know they're practically two different genres?

Oh, and for anyone who played it on a console and hated it: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/06/29/how-the-xbox-sucked-the-life-out-of-dragon-age/

Agree. The game is blatant plagiarism of Warcraft, for starters. And the storyline was terrible in my opinion. Hated the characters. The world was closed and not particularly lovable. "Darkspawn" is a name I could never get used to. Protagonists being silent is something I always can't stand. The prices of the DLCs for Dragon Age are disgusting.
Etc etc etc.

It does have a few good things though. Mages have some fun abilities, the choice of things to say (while nowhere near as enjoyable as it was in Mass Effect) is something I love about Bioware, the Lore clearly had thought put into it, etc.
It really confused me how Bioware, the makers of Mass Effect, could make this game. There's a collossal difference in quality between the two.

I play Dragon Age occasionally, though. Probably just so I can get some Gamerscore, though.

Absolutely loved it. 4 playthroughs and another 2 playthroughs of Awakening. Solid story and characters, tactics were a nice change and it was fun collecting sweet items and then turning yourself into a complete bad-ass. This game really shows your character's progression. You start out so weak and shitty and you eventually become a whirlwind of destruction.

Some useless skills bothered me though, like trap setting... takes too long to set up a trap and then lure them into it for the damage it does.

EDIT: Though taking trap setting allowed to have one glorious moment.

The major fight with the captain and all the guards when you're freeing Anora. I knew that I would be in that large room again, so I laid out about 17 traps in that section before freeing Anora. When we came back, the guards got absolutely slaughtered before we even got to hit anyone.

In what way did it rip off Warcraft?
Explain please.

I considered it very overrated. it's not terrible, but it's definitely not all it's cracked up to be. File it wherever they put the Halo franchise.

I don't think I could prove you wrong, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I personally thought it was a great game, a well developed fantasy universe that takes all the established tropes and cliches that we've come to expect from the genre and it still manages to have its own take on things. Bioware don't half ass when it comes to making new and interesting, if familiar feeling, worlds.

But, to each his own.

Side Note: It was the thing to make me realize I have a thing for female elves, not sure why.
On a related note; You see many of them female elves around town nowadays? :p
I kid, I kid.
Personally I loved DragonAge, but like everyone said; Each to their own.
