Am I the only one that knows that "am I the only one" is a figure of speech?! Get over it!
/counter rage

Anyway, I didn't think Reach was that bad. I haven't played much of the campaign and I wouldn't say the multiplayer is the best, but it's definitely better than a lot of other games out there.
I'm also learning to love the Jet Pack. Was disappointed at first that you don't zoom into orbit at 5,000,000 miles per hour, but I suppose getting to a nifty vantage point works too.

They are not well paced, the locales are not all that interesting, and there are certainly no memorable battles. Oh and why are vehicles controls still so stupid, its worse than trying to get someone to walk right in Heavy Rain.
Wut.

I'm not sure you and I are playing the same Halo: Reach.

While I think several of your concerns are valid regarding story and characterization, Reach has what I would consider to be the most diverse locales and some of the most grand-scale battles in the series to date. On Legendary, this game is Epic, and I mean that not in a hyperbolic sense.

And as far as I'm concerned, the flight controls in the sabre mission are some of the best space-fighter contols I've seen used in years. That whole segment of the game was like playing a super high-tech, next-gen version of Star Fox 64 in range mode. The ship acrobatics, and flight/weapon controls were solid, and the targeting comuter and heath management were spot on perfect. I'd be thrilled if they'd add a space-combat multiplayer mode. Hell, that's all I'd play.

I don't think it sucks, but I don't like it enough to ever buy it. I have had the past 2 halo games, but this seems just like the other two, and hasn't really got major differences to me. If the price drops I might consider buying it, but for now, I can live with other games.

Yeah it was a blatant attempt to milk the already stale halo franchise just that tiny bit more. Nothing was added, nothing was gained. I'm even slightly embarrassed to be related to someone (my brother) who actually went out and paid £34 for it. The Reach expansion in my opinion was worth 2 or 3 quid.

Yes, everyone else loves it.

Of course you aren't alone, everyone likes different things. If you don't like it don't play it. I love it, the multiplayer that is. It's been a while since I have had fun online on an FPS.

If you don't like it that's fine but I really don't think it requires a thread. Way too many, "Am I the only one?" and "Why all the hate." threads. Different people like different things.

I didn't like or dislike it. I guess I was expecting more from it I'm not a Halo fan per say I have only played 1 & 2 before Reach. And I didn't read any of the novels I think I was looking for more story but didn't get it. I played a friends copy (on heroic bumped it up from normal because it was to easy) which he is a huge halo fan & he has the novels and even he was a little let down but anyway least I didn't waste my money on it MUHAHAHAHA. ; )

(If you haven't played the game, your are not entitled to an opinion. So Fan boys be gone.)
Wait what? Are you saying fan boys don't play their favorite series of games? So even if they have played the game and liked it they cant actually comment here because...??? they liked it?

Also I would also express my frustration and rage at the idiocy of the phrase "Am I the only one" 7 billion people in the world, OF COURSE YOUR NOT THE ONLY FUCKING ONE.

I found it to be the same old Halo with a few gimmicks but pretty much the same game I have played since CE. But its what I was expecting so I had a good time with it but I have already moved back to my other games.

Your argument for why the game sucks is that it's generic. That doesn't prove the game sucks. That proves the game's generic. If you want to prove the game sucks, then I suggest you start by proving the game sucks.

On topic, I do agree it's generic, it's mildly entertaining, but perhaps not really a great crescendo of video game history.

#1 rule of the internet : You are never alone on the internet. Someone would agree with you if you stated that Hitler didn't have a moustache.
He absolutely did not have a moustache. It's an oddly shaped birthmark, that's all.

OT: And your point is? You didn't like the game, I did. Opinions. They're allowed.
Quite how you're the only one who thinks that it's rubbish confuses me though. Have you never read any threads on the escapist before?
It's like some bizarre version of Godwin's Law - any thread here, no matter what it was originally about, will sooner or later consist of someone mentioning how much they hate Halo, Call of Duty, or whatever else is big at the moment, (at least in some cases) because it seems cool to do so. (Or, in CoD's case, because the fact that Bobby Kotick was involved makes it unclean or something)
Seriously, ask most people why they dislike Halo/whatever, and the response will be something along the lines of "It's not as good as the hype would suggest". In fact, that's pretty much the reasoning in the OP's post.
Not "It's a bad game".
Not "The publishers kidnapped my family, and wouldn't return them until I bought the game and all the DLC, completed it, and then wrote a favourable review of it. And then paid them more money".
Just "It's not as good as people say it is"

And of course a new Halo game is a Halo clone. That's why it's part of the same series!
Yes, the campaign is a little shoddy at points; poorly explained with clichéd characters and ludicrous discrepancies in difficulty levels. But it does manage to convey the whole 'hopeless struggle' thing pretty well for the most part, and it's still fun!
Oh, and the space battle section is amazing. I just wish there were more of it. Space battles are pretty much the only reason I play Star Wars: Battlefront 2 any more. Or Star Fox's open sections.
Also, the multiplayer is fun. Firefight too! Not the whole point of the game, but certainly most of the replay value.

t;;dr - Read my post! I spent a lot of time on that rant! But in a nutshell, generic doesn't equal bad.

EDIT: Also, jetpacks. I don't even use the jetpack much, and I love it.

MORE EDIT: So many edits. This post was only about half-written when I first submitted it. I may come back to it later.

Flamewar? I'm trying to encourage discussion. =p
I don't really know if you went the best way for a discussion, you kinda just bashed the game, i mean maybe you really thought it sucked but, you have to offer that there were some good pieces to it, other wise why did you buy / rent / play it in the first place? your first argument is really only opinion with not really much that can be said other then disagreeing with you about your thoughts on the subject.

I personally liked reach i think the armory is a great idea, i like each character, i could follow the story well, and even got a feeling of helplessness when i was watching the innocent get killed while i could do little more than shoot at there attackers from afar.
I really feel like Noble 6 is me, because i picked everything about him, his armor is what i like and would want, so it draws me well into the story.

I'm with you on this one. While most of his complaints are entirely subjective, the ones about boring environments and bad vehicle controls are confusing to say the least. Halo has always had fantastic vehicle sections and is frequently praised for them. They're incredibly simple to control, I don't know of anyone whose ever had problems with them

And again, Halo in general usually has some decent, varied environments, and Reach does it better than any of the other ones. The environments are incredibly varied, there's some great set pieces and furthermore the environment artists have done a magnificient job in creating a good atmosphere.

It's more the fact that every time (and I do mean every time) a popular new game comes out, at least 3 people make an "Am I the only one that thinks that (game) sucks?"
(Almost always written that way, too)
So... To use myself as an example, I don't mind too much, but I just get bored with these after seeing the same threads with different titles over a few years.

Anyway, I didn't buy it, and I'm not a "fanboy", but I've played the first 3. In regards to Reach, I played with a friend online on that SWAT mode. It was pretty fun.
We'll be playing the campaign together over the coming week, when I have my Uni holidays...
