Soooo if I don't agree I am automatically a fanboy? Nice.

Disparaging and heavily opinionated thoughts on campaign aside, if you seriously, seriously think that you could consider Halo Reach an expansion pack, you have not a clue about what Reach is like. obviously it was a statement made in ignorance, because if you had put any thought into the vast, and I mean vast amount of differences, you would clearly realize that such a statement was obtuse, to put it in a positive manner.

My apologies, I cannot find myself agreeing with you, at all.

You are NEVER the only one!

Complaints that Halo is generic is something that has been levelled at the series since the very first game. At this point it shouldn't really come as a surprise.

Getting pissed about "am i the only one" threads is just as unoriginal as posting them. There's no way in hell such a simple thing could annoy you.

And, no, getting pissed about getting pissed isn't used enough yet to become unoriginal. So stfu.

OT: The campaign was fun, but the story was terrible. Really, really, really, really terrible. They contradicted canon for NO reason at all. So many retcons could have been avoided by just having the Spartans be IIs instead of IIIs.

And, even putting aside those fanboy complaints, the story was still terrible. I read somewhere that Bungie did the missions first, then planned the "plot" around the missions, so that's probably why. It's really a shame too, because Bungie does have some good writers working for them. I did think some of the voice acting was pretty good. I liked Carter's and Jorge's actors. Their characters weren't great, but their voices were nice.

But, the multiplayer isn't just a map pack. Reach is a million times more fun than Halo 3 was (though not as fun as Halo 2).

EDITS!:

These are the type of comments that really make my head hurt. You typed a full paragraph, but you didn't even say anything. Seriously. You could've deleted every sentence except the last, and said the exact same thing. He gave his reasons for disliking it, why don't you give some reasons for liking it? WHY did you think the campaign was good? What encounters stood out in your mind? What characters did you like? Where did you encounter good pacing? Who was your favorite character? etc. etc. etc.

Back to the OP: What FPS do you think has good vehicle control? The vehicle levels in Halo always annoyed me, but I do think Halo does vehicles better than any other FPS.

campaign is boring yes, but quite frankly who cares
Attitudes like this are disappointing. We should expect more from developers and have higher standards. Halo 1 had a good campaign, but it's been downhill since then.
Not really, I never liked the halo campaign, regardless of which halo. To me halo is just a multiplayer game I'd only play with friends (-> no random matchmaking), similarly I'd only play mario kart with friends.
Even Co-op doesn't do if for you? I only played campaign with friends as well, but I'm not sure whether you count that.
My point is that Halo games have been singleplayer games with multiplayer created from the singleplayer mechanics, and recently, the campaign aspect has become merely an excuse for the changes in the multiplayer. And it has been neglected as such.

Not in the slightest. Granted, I've been less than impressed with the HALO franchise since HALO: Combat Evolved (ie. HALO 1).

I'm not disagreeing with you, by no means do I think that halo is a great or flawless or even very good game. I just think it's fun in multiplayer (similarly blobby volley is fun in multiplayer). Also, coop campaign is as stated by the OP really confusing and quite frankly not fun in reach (it was in halo 3 IMO).

I'm torn.
In some ways, I want to say "Umad? It's a figure of speech."

But for the majority I want to say "Derp, you're not alone, millions bought it"

If you do this again, say "Who else think X"

That's your opinion. I think the campaign was flawless... well except for that one death. The multiplayer (matchmaking, I mean) is good (except for the occasional t-bag from some emasculated 12 year old), custom games are a blast, firefight is awesome too, and forge is back and better than ever before.
In my opinion. I think Reach is awesome, you don't. Both of us have different perspectives, tastes, etc. so I won't stand around arguing the toss with you about wether it's a good game or not. I think it is, you don't. I play it, you don't. So lets just agree to disagree.

If you don't like it fine. Just don't come to forums complaining about it cause those who do enjoy it don't want to hear it.
Since when they been forced to read the topics about subjects they don't like to read about?

I understand what you mean, but you're just settling. We should demand that the games we buy be good all around, instead of tailored to one individual aspect.

If designers are going to make a game so heavily oriented toward multiplayer, I am of the opinion that they should just make a multiplayer only game, (I believe Shattered Horizon is an example of this).

I agree with the first part of your comment, but personally I thought Halo 1's campaign was just weird. You get awoken (re-awoken? dunno) to help fight a war (how do we know who's right and wrong?) and you are amazing in every single way (human? robot? both? dunno)(why arnt there just more of you, surely that would help?). Then stop an ambush and save some humans, ok fine. Go find this random helpful item (why can't the military do something like create exactly the same thing with their limitless budget and where do they get this info?). Personally I gave up with the story when i was being ordered to shoot at walking tumors by a blue light.
There's actually a blog somewhere that explains why Halo:CE's intro cutscene is so good (and how it answers a few of your questions). I don't remember the url, but you can probably google it. And from your post, I assume you skipped cutscenes.

I loved the story. Saying it was terrible x4 is an exaggeration at best, anyway, even for the very worst of stories in video gaming. Nothing can be that putrid.

They didn't contradict canon, they retconned it. I'm glad they did that as Fall of Reach was a mediocre book anyway (anybody who thinks Eric Nylund writes action scenes well seriously needs to read something by Dan Abnett or Neal Asher, who ruined all other action-oriented authors for me by being gobsmackingly brilliantly amazing).

As for the rest of your argument, you haven't given me much to go on. Why did you think the story was terrible?

I'm still working my way through the campaign (been playing local Firefight), and I'm enjoying it. I've read the books and played the games. I 'm not a ZOMG HALO FANBOYZ guy. But, I do enjoy the mythos. To be honest, I haven't had this much fun in a game since playing the original CE at LAN parties. On Legendary 4-player co-op I get the sense of EPICness that the games have lacked for many installments. I can still remember playing co-op on Two Betrayals on Legendary with my friend after school. Nothing will ever beat that.

Here's my take on what microsoft I mean "Bungie" was thinking when they made reach

"CRAP! We've run out of ideas to add to Halo so people will keep buying it what do we do!"
"QUICK! Let's steal everything from an unpopular sci-fi shooter from 2004 and add it to Halo 3!"
**holds up Tribes Vengeance**
"YES! That will work perfectly, and we'll call it Halo Reach, because YOU were the one that 'REACHed' for that game *wink* *wink*"

So yeah in my opinion they just stole tribes weapons/packs/abilitys and threw them into Halo 3 and resold it to all of you

Now if you need me I'll be playing real shooters that aren't grossly blow out of proportion... like PainKiller... or Killer Floor... or Tribes Reach- I mean Vengeance.
