I usually only swear when I'm really annoyed. I try not to swear if I can avoid it.
What he said.
You're the second person today whose assumed I'm a guy... Weird.
A more feminine avatar could help just a little.
So male forumites can have any avatar they want, but females have to have feminine avatars?
uhoh i can see where this is going *takes cover*

No, swearing is not awesome, it make you sound like an idiot most of the time. If you can't communicate without using vulgarities, nobody will take you seriously. If you're having beers with your friends, well, in that situation anything goes, but I'd like the rest of the world to know me as a well mannered, mature 25 year old.
nicely put

and i detect a flame war between ya two. no you don't i dont get why people make big deals over Nothing
Nobody wants a flame war, that's why the escapist forums are brilliant. I was simply questioning the guy/gal's logic.

I'm always afraid to make this mistake x)
Maybe a function that shows gender could be a profile option?

On topic: I swear when angry or to emphesize something. Otherwise I try to moderate my swearing.
It's not a big deal or anything, I just find it strange. Maybe the way I write is masculine? I thought my name was fairly girly.. Mostly because it's my actual name and I'm a girl. It's pronounced Carly if anyone's curious.

There's right times, places and situations for swearing and there are wrong times, places and situations for it... that's all I can really say on it.

I don't dislike it but I don't swear personally. Why do what everyone else is doing when you can raise the rooms I.Q 50 points right?

Fuck yeah! I've got Irish blood in me. Of course I love to swear.
I'm completely Irish, I still try to avoid swearing.
Pardon my ignorant comment. I was told that in Dublin, "fuck" is practically a punctuation mark.

With the huge amount of weird names floating round on the internet, few people actually regard them. I know I don't. It's all just avatars and badges for me.

Not to be elitist or anything but I judge people by what they say.

So I notice the type of people who use swearing for a cheap laugh or to punctuate a statement.

Apparently Stephen Fry enjoys swearing, so if somebody as sophisticated as him can enjoy swearing, then the rest of us can.

That's pretty much how I use swear words.

Hmm, swearing eh? Back in my days of schoolin' there was this wee fellow about 2 years younger than myself who happened to insert the words "fuck" or "fuckin'" inbetween every other word, he sounded like a right tit and was clearly only doing it because he, and his friends thought it was cool.

I've got no time for people who just insert swear words for the sake of it, they're either young, unimportant/unemployed, in a position of no authority/respect or a god damn rock n' roll star.

So, this begs the question, which one are you J-Man?

Edit
how the fuck can they offend you?
It's got very little to do with it offending people, we'll just think you're not that bright, and have very little respect for those you speak to, ie... most folk won't want to talk to you if you talk like that.

Yeah, pretty much.
If you can't articulate yourself without swearing, you're an idiot.
If you don't WANT to articulate yourself without swearing, then you're either an idiot, immature, insecure, or a combination of all three.

And since Chris Rock is perhaps the greatest man alive (emphasis on *perhaps*) and swears with wanton abandon, why not?

Oh please.
Outside of being angry, or hurting yourself (Or being hurt in general), what is the point of swearing?

You're either swearing because you don't know any other words in which to better exress yourself (Idiot/ignorant).

You're swearing because you think that swearing is fun/funny if you do it a lot (Immature).

Or you're swearing so that you can shock people and/or they'll notice you (Insecure).

Got any other reasons?

FUCKIN' A RIGHT, *****!! lol

i love cursing.

what gets my goat is when people say "don't use bad language". i don't believe in bad language.

they're just words, and words don't hurt.

I'm going to paraphrase Lewis Black here by saying "we are adults, these are the words we use to express frustration, rage, and anger. What is the good language we are supposed to use. Say someone who has worked a job for 40 years and is suddenly fired or let go and they lose their pension, their insurance, EVERYTHING! what are they supposed to say? 'Oh, darn it.... Sassafras, sassafras, sassafras !!!'"

plus, I'm from Brooklyn, where "Fuck" isn't even a word, it's a comma lol
