Twisted Metal: Vehicular combat at its best. The Flaming Headed Clown in an Ice Cream Truck, in particular, was Sweet Tooth, one of the two pivotal characters in the series.

it was prety much a sony exclusive title. and with the exception of TW black, wasnt advertised all that much. its a cult classic. if you knew of it then yay. if not, you were poorer for it.

Twisted Metal was a PS1/2 series, so most of the newer generation of gamers won't know of it.

It was a lot of fun to play on co-op.

Probably, I remember because of that fucking Ice Cream Truck.
I never played it myself but I remember sneaking into my cousins room just to see them play it.

Damn young whippersnappers, never heard of Twisted Metal...sheesh.
I was surprised when I read how many people actually had never heard of it. It's like not knowing about Sly Cooper...

Just a general question, how young are all of you Escapists who've never heard of it? It may be an age issue.

I only know about from people mentioning it on forums long after it was released. Not really a series that has ever been on my radar. I'm from the UK as well. I hope people don't take this the wrong way but it seems like a middle America only sort of franchise like Mortal Kombat only not as big a name.

With much love to my fellow Brits, you aren't right. It was pretty big here about a decade ago. Was one of the early ones that would bring whole groups of friends together to play.

Maybe you're a bit younger, or were just unlucky enough to have missed it, or were taking a lot more drugs in your youth than I.

I used to love the series, but I figured since they haven't come out with any since the PS2 was launched that it was a dead franchise.
Same here, always assumed it was dead. I used to love Twisted Metal. I owned every game of the series for a long time.

It was weird. For some reason the second the flaming clown head guyl popped up I immediately recognized the symbol as Twisted Metal. Unfortunately I have no reccollection of ever playing the game, or of having heard of it. I must have forgot or something because I knew the name just by the clowns but had no idea about anything else. It bothered me =/

Sony's press conference. I was watching it away, live on GameTrailers, when suddenly, some trailer with a bunch of flame-headed clowns comes along.

"huh, some kind of new franchise?" I think... then, suddenly, Sony rolls on a fucking Ice cream van, the crowd goes insane, and David Jaffe of all people comes along and says that its the longest running franchise of the Playstation brand.

"what the hell is this 'Twisted Metal'?" I think to myself "I mean, it looks pretty cool but I've never heard of it before!"

I look down at the comments; general reaction appears to be "FINALLY! TWISTED METAL YES!" and I'm still feeling utterly confused.

Here in the UK, at least, I never heard of the Twisted Metal franchise... during the PS2 era, I looked through game stores many times but I never once recall coming across anything called such a thing, or any game which looked to have such a distinct style.

Now, I like to think I watch the gaming industry like a hawk... big title games rarely miss my gaze (unless its a big event like E3), and so finding out that an entire big title franchise had missed me kinda gave me a little shock.

Has anyone else been in the same situation? I vaguely heard somewhere that Twisted Metal had less of an impact in Europe... could that have something to do with it?

Now you know about it and will have a blast playing it when it comes out, thats what matters!

I remember going to the mall on school lunch break, and play Twisted Metal on a PS1 that was on display...i was like "OMG, what an awesome console, what an awesome game, and im stuck playing Megadrive". This was around 1995 i think.

When i saw the E3 trailer, i had that same feelling! :)

I never found out about Twisted Metal until about 3 years after playing Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense.

But Twisted Metal didn't catch my interest, GoldenEye Wii did.
