I kind of like PS2, but it sucks to play the game by yourself; since I'm the only one in my circle of friends to have enough time &/or a powerful enough PC to play it, I never can play the game like it's supposed to be played.

And the freeroaming can bore some people; I'm guilty of not playing a game because I had no clear sense of where to go.

Probably more like 7 billion by now.

OT: No, you're not. You're never the only one.
Personally, I'm not sure yet.
I've only been able to play once and I don't have much time to play now that I'm having exams.
I might continue forming an opinion in a few weeks.
Though more likely, I'll be playing AC3 then.

Why are people such douchebags to OP's who open with "am I the only person"? It's just a figure of speech. Everyone know's what they mean so why be an ass about it? It just makes you look like a twat who has nothing better to do than be condescending.

OT: I like the amazing scale of the battles but I hate how they can often develop into a bottled up mess. Also, the game has stupid high requirements in order for it to even look remotely good.

Well it has plenty of problems to tear it apart but from a compatison like that it is quite clear you didn't play what the game offers, this is isn't your garden variety pocket shooter, the main draw is that persistent world and the scale it can get up to.

But I mostly don't go back to it because you get no overview of where your people are moving so all engagements are just blind guesswork, you can join an outfit but then you are again limited to only those guys and you have no clue where other shit is going on.

I'm enjoying it, but it's definitely better with friends who can show you the ropes. It's the persistent world aspect that makes it different from games like Firefall and Battlefield. It's great when your Squad / Outfit starts mobilizing and you can see the territories that you start controlling.

My first impression was the same as the OPs. It was a little confusing and overwhelming, but I stuck with it, and it's really starting to be a lot more enjoyable.

What?

There's definitely something wrong with your particular client because what you're experiencing is definitely not by design. I've got Model Quality (which should affect draw distance) set to Medium and I can see and shoot people 100-150m away. And a large number of them on screen as well.
The render problem has something to do with the server tech and how it handles a large amount of players in a small area its an issue that has persisted since the beta. It seems to be happening more often now that the servers are live with more players. There is a large on going thread on the official forums about it http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/rendering-distance-of-players-is-a-big-joke.49484/

So far I have been loving it. I just love the huge scale, nothing beats storming an enemy facility and having a huge battle with hundreds of people on each side.
Your in cover reloading with explosians all around you and bullets flying overhead while a tank roles up to fire off a loud shot from it's cannon and aircraft fly by overhead to strafe the enemy position before breaking off into a dogfight that is being influenced by the nearby max with dual flak cannons.

If your into smaller scale stuff then it's not for you because this game is all about scale, it's pretty much the game I dreamed about.

I am disliking it too, even when pretending it has nothing to do with Planetside 1. It's rant time.

Physics: 1)Vehicles slide all over on all terrains. 2)Reversing and turning at the same time almost never works. 3)If you try to go up a hill in a vehicle it will slide down like it's made out of ice and ignore all commands. 4)If you're trying to drive up between cliffs even it's a scalable height and turn onto something too steep the vehicle will slide like ice down until you hit flat surface at which point you'll try to reverse to get the direction you want and 2) happens. 5)Bumps and hills in general make your vehicles freak out, change direction and even sometimes do things that make no sense (going over a turn right leads the ATV to glitching out and fall on top of it's self at which point it then blows up and calls it a suicide).

Weapons: 1)The first shot, regardless of the faction always hits 100% exactly where you are aiming. With the exception of drop this means there is no bullet play like there was in PS1 and all other shooters in existence. If you go full auto for a second then let to it always returns to the same spot you were initially aiming. This means with semi-auto (with the exception of drop) your bullets will always hit where you aim. Always. This is why people are able to kill full auto from 30m+. 2)The upgraded weapons are mostly crap with only 3 of the choices per class even worth upgrading to. In addition to this SOE said before Planetside 2's release they do not sell power in the shop yet some of the weapons buyable with cash have a faster DPS, less recoil etc which means they blantly lied. Sure, you can buy them without paying but you'd have to grind certs for many hours (1000 certs at 50 an hour is 20 hours).

Vehicles/Classes: 1)Too few options with barely any customization and removed weapons/items (I MISS MY FUCKING BOOMERS). Outside of the 'abilities' and the types of weapons a class gets, everything else is available to the other classes. The cert specializations don't matter at all unless nearly maxed out which in the end leads to a lot cert grinding. 2)Heavies almost always win small firefights due to their shield which throws skill out the window. In PS1 armor helped, but it didn't borderline guarantee you to kill someone without it and the same goes for most games with upgrades. 3)Tanks are almost 100% useless in small fights and are only viable in big fights if there are a lot of them. This is because the air vehicles do roughly the damage of the tanks with their rockets, except air vehicles can aim straight down and vehicles have a severely limited firing angle on their weapons. This means any decent pilot will be able to 1v1 any ground vehicle at any time, even with the default weapon. The distance for bullets disappearing is also much smaller in Planetside 2 than in Planetside 1 so even once a ground vehicle has moved enough to get an attacking target within view usually the air vehicle is long gone and any shots (whether they are lead properly or not) disappear before hitting the air vehicle.

Gameplay: 1)Outfits are useless because of how capturing bases goes. Unless you and your team are constantly capturing bases behind enemy lines the time isn't worth it and you would make more certs following the zerg. 2)Due to the time it takes to capture a base now and the hexagon system small groups usually don't amount to much because a dozen people notice their base is under attack, attack the invaders and reclaim it all before the timer even goes down. 3)Despite 2 being true there is literally reason to ever defend a base. Unless someone makes the base neutral and you recapture it, defending gives zero experience. 4)Because of 2 most people leave a captured base just to capture another one unless they need supplies (sunderer, magrider, etc) or to spawn if it's the closest spawn. In Planetside 1 you actually had to defend towers and bases where as now it's just 'Don't worry, it will take them 5-10 minutes to capture it. We'll just drive over there and defend it'. 5)Because one player can now steer and shoot tank guns it is very common to see them with only one player in them. They often even drive over friendlies and nobody cares (except the person who died). The only thing people really try to get people in to use is liberators but those are mildly uncommon to see because nobody wants to work together. In short, there is no cooperation and it feels like every man for themselves. It's just RUSH TO THE POINT, CAPTURE THE POINT, DEFEND THE POINT WHILE CAPTURING, RUN TO THE NEXT POINT. In Planetside 1 most of these players would be getting thrashed and rage quitting, yet SOE made it so such players are the kind who go on 10+ killing sprees. 6) As someone else in this thread said they limit the people you can see. This means despite the map holding 666 people from each side for a grand total of 1998 the most you will ever see is 40, done similiar to the new WoW interlace system. This means you will never see the massive fights in Planetside 1 that thrilled you to keep playing. All you see is the empty ground around people who are camping the walls, random explosions and then you get shot by some guy who wasn't rendering until he attacked you. It also leads to lots and lots of people not rendering until they are right in your face.

Maps/Bases: 1)Bases were made too balanced. As is a sniper can hit you almost anywhere, there are no hallways and so sneaking is pretty much non-existant which means you need a big group to take a guarded base instead of a good few. 2)The map was designed in a way to purposely make X class/vehicle viable and Y class/vehicle useless. There are dozens of secret paths that only infantry can take, places that should be scaleable but are blocked off and numerous other things that force you to take a enemy head on instead of using tactics. The maps in Planetside 1 felt natural and that was part of the fun, using them in realistic ways to win the fight. Now you just run at the enemy and try kill them faster than they kill you. 3)Base size. They claimed to make some bases the size of FPS maps yet all they did was make towers and bases closer and then say it's all one base. 4) Planets feel a shitton smaller. I don't know how else to explain it, but it feels incredibly small. In Planetside 1 it took you minutes to travel the map even in the fastest aircraft while right now the one person aircraft each faction gets can cross the map in under two minutes with ease. 5) Force fields. Force fields everywhere leads to spawn camping. You should NEVER EVER EVER have a magical door in any PVP game ever for any reason that allows one side to shoot through it while the others can't. This is stupid, leads to spawn camping and feels like a cheap mechanic because the developers don't know how to make the game interesting.

Overall: Literally almost every reason I was drawn to the original Planetside was changed or removed. There is no cooperation, no originality, insane grind for certs and none of them are even worth it. All in all this isn't Planetside nor a fun game in general in any sense. It is a rip off of Halo and Call of Duty on a giant map. Nothing more.

I don't expect anyone to read this, but it's how the game is from my view. I am honestly not even mad at the developers, they're just bad at their jobs. They could have remade every single aspect of Planetside 1 for Planetside 2 then thrown in the 2000 player limit instead of the old 1000 and it would still sell. People aren't playing it for the shitty certs, overpowered weapons or Call of Duty style gameplay. They're playing it because it is a MMOFPS and sadly, this sequel has a lot less to offer than the original.

The moment I saw the Thread title I knew the ravenous hoards would descend upon the OP faster than a pack of Grammar Nazis on a incorrect use of "there". IT'S A FIGURE OF SPEECH PEOPLE! Just stop! You don't look clever or witty for pointing out the predictably obvious. It just comes off as obnoxious. Good god.
As does the expression. You want people to stop being obnoxiously sarcastic? Stop with this idiotic expression. Otherwise, get used to us being around.
The only real reasoning I've seen for people disliking the expression is them being overly pedantic curmudgeons who can't accept a simple figure of speech and want to look smarter and/or witty. The expression itself is no less intelligent to use than any other non-literal phrase. It's clearly been established as that, so complaining about it is very nearly equivocal to whining about any long established expression in language because you happen to take things too literally. In that sense, no. I'll gladly continue chastising anyone else's poor attempt to look clever by continuously pointing out a non-issue. I'm not going to "get used to you being around". Hell, I wouldn't accept people constantly saying "that really gets your goat? But you don't HAVE any goats!" Have a nice day.

I really like it.. its totally freak free too. I am not into FPS games like I used to be and I no longer have that twitch dexterity, but when I feel like dropping into a game and playing a top notch FPS game PS2 gives me that ability.

And we're not going to "get used to" this stupid choice of words. A nice day to you, too.
Yes, a bastion of reasoning you are. "It's stupid because I don't like it despite it being perfectly serviceable expression that's hardly any different from other non-literal phrases that I don't whine about." Uh-huh. Somehow I don't hold your opinion in very high regard. Hopefully others feel similarly.

I like it but it is still an incredibly frustrating game at times. Especially with it being "pay to win for now". The game encourages spawn camping and avoiding fights rather then inspiring actual battle between the factions. Its common for me to get into a platoon and start taking territory only to have an enemy group completely avoid us to back cap territory behind us. Not only that but its quite common for us to throw a huge force at a tech plant or bio lab and then a small enemy team just waits till we leave to take it back. I spent a hour killing the same guy trying to retake Xelas bio lab from us last night and it wasnt fun at all. I could have actually been out there capping other points, getting into tank battles, dog fighting in my scythe, or just supporting my allies (you know, things I actually ENJOY doing in the game) but no because of the current design of the game I always have to guard those big facilities against a few cowards
