And you have raised more questions than answers. Why is the school called the Rugby school exactly? Do they teach children how to put bees in rugs there or something?
Maybe the school was situated near a town/street called Rugby, and why was it called that? Well they probably made Rugs there and bees were very common:p

It's completely obvious why its called football, because you use your feet to run. I think its to piss off the rest of the world because we are America and we do that sort of thing.

Because there is no Soccer or AFL in America competeing for the name? I don't actually understand how it has such a large following, I'd rather watch the synchronized swimming :S

Why do Europeans call Communist Kickball Football?
What in gods name is communist kickball? Some game where people take votes, kick a ball and run bases? Your comment rather confuses me.

because you kick with your feet.
see it's logical,unlike american football.
Not really, in football you run with your feet, you kick with your feet, and there is indeed a ball.
ah yes, but in the internationally recognized version, there is no hand contact apart from with the goalkeeper. While you kick with your feet in american football, the hands play a major role in it as well, you throw with your hands, carry the ball along etc. It's got much more in common with rugby than with football to be honest.
Why is Rugby called Rugby anyway? There are no rugs, bees, or bees in rugs involved.
It was invented in the town called Rugby.

Em, since when was it exclusively played by communists now? Most countries that play it are not, nor have they ever been, communist. In fact, the Chinese have never played it, and the USSR were never any good, so the name Communist Kickball is frankly entirely stupid. Communists are BAD at football.

And I'm from Ireland, so we call it soccer too, cos we have our own football called Gaelic football where you barely kick it either. I don't care what it's called to be honest. Could be called anything for all I care.

I think he was intentionally trolling. Playing the part of the ignorant American so that it would lure the rest of the forum into flaming him.

I don't know, but I swear this is the third topic I've posted "I don't know" in about American Rugby.

I think I called it American Rugby those times, too. Eh.

Anyway. Football came before American Rugby, or as it's better known nowadays, Handegg, so I don't see why any other sport should take it's name. Football is English. Handegg is American.

Leading on from that however, Handegg is just a copy of Rugby anyway.

Wait...you guys seriously didn't realize the guy calling it communist kickball was joking? Seriously?

Jeeze, Americans can't even be ironic without people hopping on our backs for being stupid.

Anyways, Soccer/Football and American Football are both called Football because they evolved from Rugby Football. Both took the name Football and went there separate ways. Certainly, American Football looks a little funny compared to Soccer/Football, what with the greatly diminished role that feet play in American Football. But there is a perfectly logical reason behind it. Lesson here, language gets funny as it evolves.

OP, I'm don't know. Then again, I'm not big enough on (American) football to know much of anything about it.

Still, I do think Tackleball or Pigskin would have been better names.

But it is exclusively played by communists and you kick a ball hence the proper name: Communist Kick Ball.
Does everyone have to kick equally hard? Does every player have their own ball?

I am confused...

Also who gives a shit what we call a sport. No one has legal rights to the name so just enjoy sport you like. If it bothers some Europeans that much then don't watch American football.
It's more the way your pansy-boys get all gussied up in armour that's offensive.
