Because "Pussy Rugby" didn't sound... well flattering.

SO from this thread we have decided. the new names shall be "communist kick ball" and "hand egg"

SO BE IT!
Well "Communist Kick Ball" and "Pussy Rugby" rather. "Hand Egg" sounds stupid while "Pussy Rugby" describes the sport better. "Communist Kick Ball" is right on the money.

Also who gives a shit what we call a sport. No one has legal rights to the name so just enjoy sport you like. If it bothers some Europeans that much then don't watch American football.
It's more the way your pansy-boys get all gussied up in armour that's offensive.
Haha I would love to see some of your dry humping rugby players take on ray lewis or brian urlacher in a game of American football. Most of them would be on the ground crying.

Because there is no Soccer or AFL in America competeing for the name? I don't actually understand how it has such a large following, I'd rather watch the synchronized swimming :S

Why do Europeans call Communist Kickball Football?
What in gods name is communist kickball? Some game where people take votes, kick a ball and run bases? Your comment rather confuses me.
in communist kick ball everyone wins!!!

Because we use our feet the whole match:)
But it is exclusively played by communists and you kick a ball hence the proper name: Communist Kick Ball.
Does everyone have to kick equally hard? Does every player have their own ball?

I am confused...
everyone has a piece of the ball and live on bread and water just like everyone else! everyone win! ish...

You know I don't know either. Considering I hate sport I'm not going to go hunting for the answer. Maybe they just called it football for lack of a better term?
I alway thought Tackle Ball would be an idea name.

Except soccer should be called diveball, hockey to fightpuck, and tennis to snowshoepaddle.

Because American Football is an offshoot of rugby, which is called "rugby football". American rugby would have made more sense and would have caused less confusion, but football was pretty much a blanket term for all of the ball related sports that didn't have bats back then. Oh well.

That was pretty unnecessary, but whatever I'll roll with it.

or maybe snowshoes should be called wearable tennis rackets, hockey should be called agressive ice skating, and soccer should be called kicking shins is fun.

That picture is anatomically broken, this one makes more sense.
