That might be one of the funniest crime related news I have ever heard.

It's just up there with the guy that was robbing a house and got locked in the garage while the family was a way on vacation.Said burglar then sued the family for being locked in the garage for 3 days. And guess what, he won the trial.

Ever thought of laying traps this way? Could catch a lot of theives if you baited the hook yourselves.
I think it's against the law for police officers/detectives to lure people into committing a crime so they can arrest them. I believe it was called Entrapment or something.
What the fuck? Law enforcement should be allowed to trap thieves and burglar. It just makes things easier for the police.

Moral of the story.

Twitter: Going out to the movies, won't be back for hours.

No, entrapment is only when you cause/force someone to do something they wouldn't otherwise do. It can be a thin line. I worked as a vice officer for 3 years so I got real familiar with that line.

For example: Let's say I'm pretending to buy some drugs. (this is a stripped down example)
I find my inside guy (a user) and get him to set me up a meeting with the dealer. Vouching for how cool I am. I go in the place and ask the guy for some crack or something. He says "how much you want?" I slap down $28 in crumpled sweaty $1s and $5s. He then sells me the rock. I got outside. I come back in about 15 minutes with more people and guns. We arrest him.

See? I didn't MAKE him do anything. I didn't trick him. He did all this of his own will.

Now entrapment would be in the same scenario I tell him "If you don't sell me some crack I'm going to hire someone to kill you" and then he does. Beceause he could argue "I wouldn't've sold crack if I hadn't feared for my life"

Does this make sense? I don't know if it's the best example.

The morals of the story:
Don't give out too much information over the internet, don't announce your absence over the internet, and don't own valuable stuff.
I think we're all screwed on this one cuz one thing he stole from every place was gaming systems and computers.

Burglars love gaming systems they're easy to carry and easy to re-sell.
Indeed they are.
Is that right? I think detective ace might well be watching you in the future.

What about the cars they leave that are bugged and unlocked so that when people steal them the police can shut them down or the thing they had going where police dressed up as old people so they would catch muggers. It can't be illegal in England as the cops that set traps are treated like heroes.
We have a car like that. The best part is the windows are down but it doesn't have keys. So they HAVE to hotwire it or something like that to get caught. Though you could start the thing with a screwdriver. Impossible to argue against. Even better is watching the camera inside it. I wish it wasn't secure I'd put some of it on youtube or something.
People will say things when we pull them over "It's my friend's car" or "I was going to the DMV right now to get my liscense" Then the patrolman will say "Smile for that camera sir" and point at one of the three cameras in the car.
It's really a great moment.
They call it the 'Worm-mobile' or just 'the worm' I assume it has to do with how you bait a fishing line.

To go back on topic... I just hate people that live their lives on twitter. Frankly I just don't care how many times you go to the bathroom or where in the house you are. It seems just silly to me.

And now I want to be a detective. With a fedora, shades, raincoat, and smokes of course.

On any social networking site, I don't post what I'm doing unless I'm home. Usually it's: "Just got home from an epic concert/movie/event of some sort. That shit was fantastic!". But that could just be because I'm not retarded enough to inform anyone with a net connection that all my shit is completely and totally unguarded.

Oh, by the way, I'm going to be out of town for the next two weeks, leaving my door unlocked and all my valuables unplugged, boxed, and gift wrapped (the locations of each will be shown in photographs on my facebook). My security code and address will be uploaded to twitter in just a few minutes, so watch for it!

I hate people.

I do wear a trenchcoat and shades! Though no fedora I have spikey hair and a hat would mess that up. Vainity thy name is ace_of_something. I can't smoke despite how cool it looks due to some other health problems. So close. I guess I'll have to go back to narrating my life in my head again

*I reached in the drawer of my desk and opened the flask of burbon that I keep close to my heart and then I looked down at my .45 named 'precious' that I keep even closer still*

Such genious you have to love the things police do to catch people. Still I bet there is a ***** load of paper work for using a worm-mobile!
You'd think so. But actually it happens so often I have a report 'pre-written' and I just fill in the times, dates, and names. Like it was mad-libs. Because other than what their explination is and how they got the thing to start it pretty much is always the exact same report.

Aye that makes sense to me.
Have to admit though, the one thing I've really learnt from studying AS level law (from the uk here) is to question the legality of nearly everything the police do because half the time they do everything wrong, that and most of the cop shows you see are wrong (but this is to be expected).

++ on topic, yeah this is why I don't post personal information like that ^^

Oh and this reminds me of the case where some kid got his xbox stolen, his friend saw his live account log on and called the police. police caught the guy and a load of other stolen xboxs ^^ (has anyone else heard of this, do not 100% trust my source) :p

It depends on the are. Some places are like that. I just question it when they put really nice bait cars in really poor neighbourhoods. Some of those people have trouble making ends meet to even pay for food so of course they are going to try for the unlocked car. It's survival instinct.

OT: I don't use CreepBook or Twitter. If I did, I would use twitter to update the most inane things....
Making a sandwich
Masturbating
wiping my ass... damn the toilet paper ripped again

and such.

Not sure what AS level means. But I do have a M(aster's Degree of)Science in Sociology/Criminology. Weeee go me!

I've heard of this epidemic in policing in the UK many times from residents there. (many on this site) It distressess me. So many of you can't trust your police over there and that is no way for a 1st world country to operate.

That xbox thing sounds hilarious. Though I'm not sure how the police would be able to track where the account was coming from without getting a supeona to whatever company handles xboxlive's information.
