If you want pure unadulterated evil go play the Demon Path in Soul Nomad and the World Eaters. Lets just say most of the villains in the Hero Path find you so repulsive even they try to kill you.

I watched a playthrough of that on Youtube. It was fucking awesome. Anyways, the problem with most evil protagonist games is that they are all silly. You can't take Evil Genius or Overlord seriously, they are just too silly for that. In GTA 4 you kill a lot of innocent people as part of the main story, so maybe that.

I want a game that has your typical "relatively modest ragtag band of heroes fights conspiracy" plot, but it turns out said conspiracy was ultimately benevolent, and dismantling it was simply a rash move or motivated by extreme traditionalism (think Left Behind, with the Antichrist being a great leader and the protagonists being raving lunatics).

While we're at it, someone needs to rewrite Dan Brown's books so the conspiracy is good.

Destroy all humans, you play as this little alien and you go around harvesting peoples brains, thats kinda evil. it also lets you blow up buildings for your UFO. i think there may be a story but i wasn't paying much attention to it

Dwarf Fortress. Shouldn't even be a question. In adventurer mode, you've got the protagonist side of things taken care of too.

Yeah, but it plays more like "City of Meanie Pants's, most of whom beat up villains most of the time anyway"
Might I suggest Black & White? You can beat up a very good A.I, and it bruises, cries and comes back for more. I (and everyone else should) feel really bad just playing it- It's like an abuse simulator.

People mention prototype - he doesn't start off evil tbh - he's just trying to find out what is going on, and fighting off people to do it. Mercer never felt that evil to me, despite being destructive - he was more saving his own bacon rather than mercilessly and mindlessly slaughtering people.
Yes you can do that, but it never felt particularly compelling to do so.

It's all about the journey, not necessarily the end. I'd still play a game, even if the protagonist is due to die at the end.
