I say if its all done tastefully it could work. However it would have to be done by some damn good creative teams. This could be the formula Bioware writers + Silent Hill artists + Nintendo Resources = Awesomely dark Zelda game.

I actually think it can work if it's downplayed alot. It can't be some god of war type shit but a few fucks (I mean swaring. No tits.) and some blood here and there. Maybe give Link a darker reason for why he becomes a hero. But this is Nintendo we are talkikng about. They would sooner put Miyamoto to sleep before making a beloved franchise go to hell like that.

I don't see it being as out of place as a M-rated Mario or Sonic game
no joke, I mean we see a "dark" Link theme ish in Ocarina/Twilight going on here and there

but I also don't see M-rated as a stereotype
some blood and improved graphics? it'd be there, but it wouldn't mean it's totally different and not Legend of Zelda
just...not as kid friendly

Wow... Epic thread necro here...

But if there was an M rated zelda... I'd expect blood, gore and tits at every turn.

Not a zelda game I'd want to play, but would seem like the most likely options given the games setting and main combat style.

For some reason this 'M-rated Zelda' concept gives me a vision of 300 Hylians, and Ganon totally naked aside of some golden jewelry covering his junk.

In all seriousness though, some of the most powerful motivating criteria in fantasy come from visuals that only T or M-rated games can provide. I think a touch of blood here and there, or perhaps a deeper development of Link as a character (or Ganon maybe?) insofar as WHY Link is the unflinching paragon of justice that he always seems to be. Even if the answer is 'Oh he has the triforce of courage, remember?' Then WHY does he have the triforce of courage?

The other thing is, Ganon is sorta getting old. That kid from Majora's Mask was a really cool villain. He had sensible motivations. He went from being a cold, lonely skull kid to a demigod, which makes for a wonderful antihero.

I'd be all for an M rated Zelda game. Die hard fan but recent games sucked ass.
For those that don't listen or are too busy listening to headphones wedged in your skull. Link swears... Go play OoT and MM, swing your sword for a little bit. "SKANK! SHIT!"
An M rated game just wouldn't make it a Zelda game. The only original story I've seen with Zelda is the first and Majora's Mask. Another spin off of MM would be great! Just remember there was a big uproar over TP that it could be rated M. First thoughts on it. "Fuck... Yes."
A lot of villians and heroes could go into it. Dark Link, Majora, Fierce Deity, and a much quieter Navi.
Now when I play D&D when the GM gives a hint we all yell "Hey! Listen!"
