The Oscar winners for 2008.

Slumdog Millionaire won 8 out of 10 Oscars it was nominated for, while The Curious Case of Benjamin Button only won 3 out of a possible 13. Neither were my pick for the best film of the year (that honour belongs to Frost/Nixon out of the nominees), but it's an interesting upset considering the Oscars are what they are.

Oh, and Mickey Rourke got snubbed for Best Actor. That's my biggest outrage.

What do you think? Do you even care about the Oscars?

Quick Numbers
Slumdog Millionaire won 8 out of a possible 10 Oscars.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button won 3 out of a possible 13 Oscars.
The Dark Knight won 2 out of a possible 8 Oscars.
Milk won 2 out of a possible 8 Oscars.

The Only Winners people actually might care about
The Reader won a single Oscar for Best Actress (Kate Winslet).
Vicky Christina Barcelona won a single Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (Penelope Cruz). (!)
Milk won an Oscar for Best Actor (Sean Penn).
The Dark Knight won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger).
Slumdog Millionaire won both Best Picture and Best Director.

I loved Slumdog Millionaire, so it deserved everything that it won, that movie was beautiful. I was also kinda cheering for Mickey Rourke to get Best Actor, but I do want to see Milk sometime, so I'll be able to judge whether I agree with that decision at another time.

Thanks, pity noone will probably read that now since we have a raid going on.
Excellent timing then since this was a (no text) thread for a little while. The raid saved me from humiliation in that respect. Guess they're good for somethings after all..

(I always tell myself I'll never make a (no text) thread in such a haste)

The spam appears to have subsided, so I'm just giving my thread a quick little bump.

My predictions were pretty accurate, but I'm pissed that Rourke got passed over. That acceptance speech would've been awesome-o-saurus.

Joe, you really didn't expect the academy to welcome back someone like Rourke did you? Jackie Earl Hayley I can understand but Rourke was never Hollywoods favourite son.

I thought it was odd that Heath Ledger wasn't in the memoriam, but I really liked the way they did the acting nominations. I'll grumble about them overlooking In Bruges except for one paltry nomination later...

No, I didn't think he was going to win. I'm still pissed though, it would've been the best ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF ALL TIME.

"Uhh...I'd like to thank that chick...the one with the cans...Melissa?"

Really the only justice served tonight is that walle won and not Bolt.
That win wasn't even a question. The only doubt that could have possibly been cast would be because Wall-E was a summer release where as Bolt was a later fall release, and therefore fresh in the Academy's mind.

Giving Rourke best actor for that speech is a far better cause than giving The Dark Knight best picture in a feeble attempt at making the Oscars "relevant" again.
