And They Said it Was... OVERPOWERED.

So, what's one weapon from any game you've played that was so disgustingly overpowered that you just wanted to stop playing?

This is more aimed at multiplayer, but singleplayer counts too.

I would say the Black Ops rendition of the AK74u did it for me, but it's not really overpowered, just really overused. Seriously, there are other guns in the game, people!

That said, the Buffalo Rifle a la Red Dead Redemption gets my vote. One hit kill, super accurate and manageable reload time (considering it's single shot only) and that's one hell of an OP'd gun in my opinion.
Hahah, oh the ak74u. In general, I tend to dislike all the assault rifles and ak74u in black ops, I think they have a bit too much damage with too much accuracy. In general, assault rifles are just a bit good. Though no one I know is clever enough to objectively discuss this and get mad when I jokingly call the ak74u a noobcannon. ^_^

Not really a multiplayer person, but I can think of at least 2 single player games.

I just got around to playing (and finishing) Dante's Inferno yesterday, and the Holy Cross ranged attack is stupid powerful. You don't need to use anything other than that for any fight, really. Sadly, I didn't even realize that it was useful (cheap) until 3/4 of the way through the game.

Also, the MegaMan blaster in the first Dead Rising. Holy shit, that sure as hell made the game pointless...

Boone in FA:NV. Didn't even bothering carrying a gun after meeting up with him.
For real. I just ran around with Spiked Knuckles just in case. I just kept leveling up without killing anyone and was like "what the hell, seriously?" I kept getting into scraps on purpose just to enjoy the combat, but he would always kill the hell out of everyone first... jerk.
Bethesda needs to address this quickscoping in their next patch.

You'll all agree, I'm sure of it...

Offering + Genji Glove + Atma Weapon + Valiant Knife = 1 hit kill anything

My modded Vaiment rifle, hell, my ENTIRE character is this.

What do you get a character who have at least 50 in all of their skills? A Bobdamn gamebreaker that what.

Apparently, Karas in the Japanese version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was over powered. Fast, strong, long reach for melee AND at times with damn-near un-breakable combos...

UMP 45 in MW2. Somehow overlooked in every update. It makes every other automatic weapon in the game useless, unless you want to use the noob tube, which is OP in every CoD.
except CoD 1 and 2

there weren't any grenades of any kind beyond the regular hand grenades

plus it made more sense because even though it was class based, each team/army had it's own national weapons, which makes more sense than a japanese soldier starting off with a thompson smg

Fair enough, but there are most definitely some distinguished and horribly overpowered weapons in most games.

For the most part, I don't care if somebody kills me, but if they're using a notoriously overpowered weapon, they will receive no respect from me.
I dunno... I don't see why anybody deserves ANY respect for being able to kill you in a video-game. It's not like they've actually achieved something of any value.

I don't even dislike people that seem to get their self-worth from being good at a game. It just kinda makes me sad.

Although... I do have to admit to poking them with whatever stick I think will make them react most occasionally. I'm kinda strange that way.
Well, I'm not holding myself in some sort of higher position, but if someone can get a nice kill or be really clever about it, then I have to hold my cursing for that killcam. On the other hand, if someone just walks by with a known OP'd weapon ROFLstomping all in their path because no weapon can match it, I just die a little bit on the inside.

'Tis the way with myself and online gaming. In fact, I'd say it's like that for the majority of people.

And you're not strange, sometimes a little provocative Noob-cannon-ing the enemies is what puts a smile on my face when I'm feeling down :)

The Gauss Rifle in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. It's got a ten-shot magazine with a 4 1/2 second cooldown between each shot, a 7X zoom scope, and fires magnetically charged bullets the size of bricks out of an electric tube. Each bullet is armor peircing and custom-plated with an electrical tip, resulting in a recoiless-armor-peircing-fuel-economic-tankbuster-EMP-antimaterial-rifle that can insta-kill every enemy in the game as long as your shot lands above their waist.

Also, you can find a grand total of twenty bullets for it, on the corpse of the guy who was just taking potshots at you with it.

People who play BF:BC2 complained for months about the M2 Carl Gustav Rocket Launcher. The rocket traveled at an amazingly fast speed, extremely accurate and had High Explosive Ammo with a very large kill radius. It was like sniping with a rocket launcher.

The AC-130 in any COD game that features it. Killstreaks in general can be very unbalanced if you don't work on them enough and in my opinion, neither Infinity Ward or Treyarch have.

I don't think so,
In Ace combat games there's usually a fictional experimental super fighter you can unlock by (normally) doing something difficult, or at least time consuming,
EG: Ace Combat 5 - you have to destroy certain non priority buildings during the course of the game to recover the parts
Ace combat zero - you have to complete every level with every Ace type, Knight, Soldier and Mercenary.
Ace Combat 6 - you have to... complete the game, once, on any difficulty.

This wouldn't be too bad but it has absurdly good speed and maneuverability easily out matching everything else in the game,
It also comes equiped with one of three super weapons, either a rail gun(not too bad high power hard to aim) a missle deflecting emp burst(again not too bad limited uses, didn't stop machine guns) and a multi lock any target missile system that if memory serves targets 12 indvidual targets, almost never misses and deals high damage,
The worst part is it could be used in multiplayer.

Every single class 12 year olds make in mw2, and dual automatic shotguns in black ops

Mw2 was a complete fail in every way too, with stacking killstreaks as long as my harrier doesnt get shot down and I dont get killed in the middle of using my chopper gunner, I could get a nuke every round...

The creepers in Minecraft.

I kid, I kid.
The Magnum ammunition in Bad Company 2. They make weapons SHOCKINGLY accurate. There's even a Shotgun version.

Sniper rifles in most games. They're the only gun that kills in 1 hit at all ranges, close range? 1 hit, medium range? still one hit, long range 1 hit. So for all of us non-sniper rifle users who chose an assault rifle that's balanced to kill in a certain amount of bullets with different firing rates and damage, snipers get to do it at all ranges? No.

To drive my example in more, I was using a shotgun in bad company and I ran in (spas shotgun, magnum ammo) , shot a sniper he survived my shot and killed me with his sniper rifle in one shot. That's BULLSHIT, there is no defending that at all, it's unbalanced and stupid.

At close range sniper rifles should do minimum damage unless it's a headshot, for those who've yelled at me that snipers need to be able to defend themselves at close range, pull out your backup pistol and use that.

When you go shotgun you have to watch people run by all the time who're out of range, as a sniper you should have to hide as well when someone gets too close. You don't get to be an all range fighter.

And don't give me it takes skill to do quick scoping, it doesn't. It's an exploit.

And that's it, sniper rifles in 99% of games are OP.

Surely the AWP from Counter-strike can't have faded from collective memory that quickly, can it? I know the game is over 10 years old, but it is still played on servers all over Australia and I imagine quite a few other countries as well. Ok, it's not as bad as it once was, but seriously don't folks remember the days of having 'no-AWP' servers, and how EVERY single time you heard that weapon fired you looked around to see who had just died?

Whew! I was just about to post that.

I really shouldn't feel as old as I do now.
