Not even kidding. A couple guys over on BSN set up a fundraiser to pay for a nearby bakery to make and deliver 400 cupcakes to Bioware HQ. The goal was to raise about $1,000 to pay for it... they earned that and more in less then an hour, I guess the phrase "Shut up and take my money" has more significance then we thought.

Here's the best part, the cupcakes feature red, blue and green colored frosting and the letters A, B or C on each, and each Bioware employee gets to pick which one they want. Also all the cupcakes taste the same. (I C WUT U DID THAR)

First the Child's Play drive and now this? Talk about your creative (and expensive) protesting strategies.
look up moviebob's green lantern episode in "the big picture", you have no idea how "big" and "expensive" fans can get.

It's really hard to hate a fanbase that protests in unique, interesting and effective ways.
Agreed. I haven't played any Mass Effect games (thought about it, but as the original isn't available on PS3 it seemed a bit pointless to play only 2/3 of a Trilogy) but I can't help admire some of the strategies employed by the foaming-at-the-mouth fans. Brilliant stuff.

If I got cupcakes every time I made people angry I would go out of my way to annoy people. I would think of it more as a reward then a protest if I was a Bioware employee.

My captcha is a bad influence. Its telling me to drag race.

Cool idea, nice way to protest without being negative about it or giving a bad impression. Shame no angry fans will send cupcakes to my office. :(
Whatcha do for a living? If it's something people tend to get emotional about, you might have a shot at it...

Its hard to hate very clever protest

Too bad it'll probably go well over the developer's heads and they'll all go "Cupcakes? I'll just snag whatever's left after the rest are done"
Kinda like everyone else and used games sales, am I right?

Ba dum Ksssh!

Alright, what the FUCK? I had to hit the reload button on the capthca thing 7 times before it stopped asking me to enter fucking advert lines. This is getting scary and I don't like products I DON'T WANT OR EVER WILL WANT being foisted upon me in such a manner. It just feels manipulative and sneaky.

It would be nice if there was a bit more support for the fans among the gaming media, there are some supporters, but I do tend to notice a lot of big time sites and critics like say Penny Arcade seem to be more or less against the line being drawn here. I was actually pretty disappointed when Jim Sterling and MovieBob (for all my myriad disagreements with him) didn't wind up siding with the fans here.
Didn't you hear; the gaming media, developers and publishers have to close ranks otherwise the unwashed fans may actually achieve some sort of say in the medium, that would be the worst thing ever. When the people who pay for the medium get a say it's no longer art and sets the medium back decades...

OT A brilliant idea. This ME3 thing seems to be finally the limit of what gaming companies can do before the fans actually do organise and do something about it. I wonder what those "oh complaining never does anything" drones are thinking now.

I had an evil thought of a veiled threat given the contents of the MLPFIM short story called "cupcakes" (seriously... it's pretty demented...), but I'm sure there couldn't be any connection. >:)

Ok, that's legitimately clever. I have to actually applaud that.
My thought process, in chronological order.

P.s. Isn't it terrible when you go into a thread only to realize everything you wanted to say has already been posted?

...First I thinking a combination of "WTF" and "now they are bringing MLP into this..."

Now... I'm conflicted... do I laugh my ass off or salute them with respect?
Because this is brilliant!

MMO support so unlikely to come to us more like to the devs, who are already spoilt and don't need cake

You probably just need to make sure who's the one making the fans angry. Should be possible if what you're an in-game csr...

Also, I lol'd at the notion of devs who're already spolit and don't need cake.

I'm sure someone at Bioware will start telling the people who think the cupcakes all taste the same "No, you just can't taste the subtle differences in the flavor of each cupcake!" While one crazy guy huddles in the corner shouting "THE CUPCAKES AREN'T EVEN THERE! IT'S ALL AN ELABORATE HALLUCINATION!!!"

Yes, I deliberately avoided a Portal reference. You wanna fight about it?
Well, if you look at the recipe you can see several plot holes that only make sense if this is part of another, more elaborate dessert that the group was planning on releasing later as DLC (Delicious-Laced Content).

Apologists of the cupcakes will insist that Bioware is pissed at the way the cakes tasted, not at the lack of promised variety among them.

Rumours of a top-secret bonus cake will surface if you did the mandatory prep and cleanup.

Why do you have to pick one? I salute them while laughing maniacally.

Fun Fact: They've actually made so much extra money from this drive they're thinking of either commissioning a cake featureing the likeness of the movement's mascot "Marauder Shields" from the same bakery, or just dumping the rest into another "RTME3" themed charity.
