Hello escapists.
This is for all you anime watchers and manga readers.
I know that this thread had repeated itself for thousands of times, but every thread differs due to the original topic starter.
It seems that I cannot find any more decent animes to watch, my list is compiled of only one recommendation (I've already watched the rest).
Therefore I turn to you for assistance.
I don't enjoy Shōnen manga and anime variants because... I don't like fan service, harmon animes and DBZ heroic heroes. Gokue led to the birth of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece.
Screw them, I won't watch or read it (Any more, I did had some samples from Naruto, One Piece and Bleach - Three seasons, Two seasons and Two season respectively.)
I can compile a list of what I already watched, but It'll take some time and I might come back and edit it if I've fogotten something.
Here it is:
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood
- Deathnote
- Samurai Champloo
- Cowboy Bebop
- Dragon Ball Kai
- Elfen Lied
EDIT: - Spice and Wolf
EDIT2: - Kuroshitsuji (A.K.A. Black butler). (I struggled through the first season, then quit it.)
EDIT3: -Black Lagoon
- The world god only knows
- FLCL
- Code Geass R1&R2
I will probably add more.
Right, hit me with your best shot (...Je t'adore, ich liebe dich...)

It seems there is never a week go by without this thread popping up. And all the OPs are in the exact same format.

Go watch Steamboy and admire the pretty pictures.

More information would be satisfactory.
I'm terribly sorry for this thread, but there wasn't any other way to get recommendations...

Steamboy is the most expensive Anime film ever produced. It has high quality dubbing with the likes of Patrick Stewart, and like I said, it is very pretty. If you have an interest in Steampunk, check it out. The story is a little sporadic, but still good.

Sod it, just look at the trailer to get an idea.

I realise it's been said, but Code Geass is really, really good. That and Death Note are the only two anime series I enjoyed enough to watch the whole way through. I'll probably be checking this thread myself to find another worth watching.

Okies, let me find my list...kay, here we go:
*Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
*Legend of the Legendary Heroes
*The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
*Dead Leaves
*Brave King GaoGaiGar
*Demonbane
*Kodomo no Jikan (questionable subject matter, but approaches it in a fairly mature manner)
*Bokurano (also has a manga version)
*FLCL/Fooley Cooley
*Macademi Wasshoi
*Abenobashi
Hope some of that appeals :B

Gosick
Outlaw Star
Claymore
Fooly Cooly
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Deadman Wonderland
Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate

It's at this point that I'm starting to run out of recommendations off the top of my head since I've seen so many, they all just jumble together and I have to really concentrate to remember them. Or look at a list of all anime, ever. Those don't fall under any of the 3 limitations you provided.

Coincidentally, I've run out of anime to watch. Anyone have any older anime that they'd like to recommend to me? I've been on a crusade to watch the older ones so I can gain an appreciation of anime's foundation. I enjoy any genre. The only thing that turns me off from an anime is bad art, shoddy voice acting, or just plain stupid plots.

A small description of each would be nice, since it's a hassle searching everything on my google search engine.

It seems you're preferences are pretty close to mine so I'll pull up my anime folder for some suggestions.
-Code Geass: Its awesome. Big mechs, good story, good characters

-Darker Than Black: Its an action-ey anime that involves people with special abilities and secret wars with a few twists.

-Fooly Cooly (FLCL): My personal favorite and only 6 episodes. The 1st time you watching it you'll be like "wtf this is pointless!", but watching through it a second time and you'll still be like that but understand it a bit more.

-Hellsing: Blood, gore, non-Twilight vampires, and action

-Higuashi No Naku Koro Ni: ITS MESSED UP! The first episode is all sweet and innocent and then shit goes to hell lol. Its a psychological horror-ish theme kinda like Death Note, but a lot more "WTF?!?!" and gore

-Slayers: 2nd favorite anime and what got me into it. Its a comedy-action type of anime set in a fantasy setting. The characters are pretty cool.

Anyway, thats my list other than what you've already listed. Cheers!

Not sure if that was necessary... but thank you...

OT:
These are based on OP and what you've watched:
Eden of the East - interesting headfuck that questions the motives of people in general when given power (moral more than philosophical)
Ergo Proxy - another interesting headfuck regarding god-hood and absolute power (philosophical more than moral)
Outlaw Star - similar to Cowboy Bebop, but much more plot-driven and with more comic relief
Gankutsuou - Count of Monte Cristo in the future *shrug*
Sword of the Stranger - superstition and a lot of fighting (movie)
Seirei no Moribito - wandering mercenary protects a boy who is host to a spirit, very plot and motive driven, deeper than it first presents itself to be

Others (that you may find interesting):
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - earthquakes & mortality
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi - interesting take on western folktales & stories, quite amusing

Uh, that's all I got for now... enjoy.

EDIT:

DAMMIT! How could I forget Darker than BLACK... yeah, that one's a good one for atypical superhero stuff.

- I've looked at FLCL, read the wiki description but stopped at 'pirate king'.
- Outlaw Star looks like a travelling anime, gathering adventures and companions on the way to the ultimate destination, with governments and corporations coming in the third act as mysterious entities, and then fuck all up in the fourth act. I'm not very interested in it.
- Hellsing looks nice, but on the other hand it features the name "Alucard", which brings down my expectations.... besides I've heard that Ulimate is better than the original, so please enlighten me about it.
- Deadman Wonderland looks damned orginal, I might look further into it.
- Claymore looks a bit fishy to me, tall blonde blue eyed women with giant swords... Erm... It's hard to commit.
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann looks promising, I might look further into it.
EDIT: Just looked at the trailer/video the other bloke posted. Not going to happen.

Hellsing the first series is ok, but due to a low budget, bad animation, and the fact that the manga was only 2 volumes in at the time. I'd suggest Ultimate since it follows the manga and actually makes sense. or just read the manga since Ultimate updates VERY rarely.

No harem anime huh? Well that leaves out Tenchi Muyo, El Hazard, Dual...hey wait a minute, those were all done by the studio formerly known as Pioneer. Okay, enough of that, here are some real suggestions: every Hayao Miyazaki movie (note, not all Studio Ghibli, just the ones done by Hayao himself); Slayers; Ruroni Kenshin; This Ugly Yet Beautiful World; Fruits Basket; Great Detectives Poirot and Marple; Mahorabu Heartful Days; Tsubasa Chronicle...and that's pretty much it for now.

Fruit Basket reminded me something!
I dislike these kind of shows.
I should edit my original post....

I wouldn't just write FLCL, Outlaw Star, and Hellsing off. They are really great anime (ok maybe not so much Hellsing because of the whole Alucard thing). The whole pirate king thing in FLCL is just a framing device that gives the main character a reason to be there but otherwise doesn't mean anything until the last episode. Besides, there's only 6 of them. Outlaw star has very little of what you described. Yes, it has the gathering of companions but ultimate destruction and goverments/corporations? Not so much. The end is kind of the way you described it but not really. It is quite similar to Gurren Lagann, actually. Not in story but in style.

Long story short, don't base these or any anime on a wiki description then write them off. Watch the first few episodes and then decide from that if you don't like them.

Edit: For Hellsing vs Hellsing Ultimate: yes, Ultimate is much better than the series but they are both pretty good.
