Granted, these things are pretty much only cool if you either understand the lyrics or have subtitles handy, but I dunno. I just like themesongs that are actually about the show they were written for better than modern anime openings, which are almost always about typical pop song stuff that might have a loose connection to the theme of the show[footnote]for example, every last one of the themes for Gundam Wing are about love, presumably Relena's love for Heero... which only exists in the themesong. She was more curious about this weird dude who stole an ambulance and threatened to kill her the first time they met than anything else.[/footnote]

Yeah Ergo Proxy has an awesome opening and ending... especially with Radiohead's Paranoid Android... which fits amazingly well with the simple ending...Scrustle said:

The show kind of sucked... but the opening kicked some fuckin ass... I mean it's borderline abstract and the animation isn;t all that great... but look at it... it's so awesome...
Also, Elfen Lied... Just Elfen Lied... they rip off Gustav Klimt like it's going out of style, and it doesn;t fit with the show at all... but it's such a great opening, how could you not like it?<.<

Oh yeah, there was one that I really didn;t like... Haibane Renmei... I liked the show... but the opening sucked... than again, I wonder just how good you can make an opening when your show is set in purgatory...<.<
These are all pretty good out-tros but lets come to a consensus; the one that has made the biggest impact is the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. We all know the moves to Hare Hare Yukai; and if you don't please hand in your Otaku card at your nearest manga store.
Intros, I would say "Motteke! Sailor Fuku" from Lucky Star, less of an impact but, memorable and catchy.

this one, Loved the visuals, set up the whole cyberpunk theme, it was just awesome

I second (or third at this point) Soul Eater having one of the best opening songs, then again, I'm a fan of T.M. Revolution. For me though, the opening of Arcana Famiglia is just better. I think it's Magenta Another sky by Hitomi Harada. The actual anime is also worth watching.
