Well, considering how they threaten this basically every year, you have nothing to worry about.

Good. Maybe I can finally get some work done. This internet fad is a vapid, endless abyss of horrors and distractions.

Wait... All of my work requires the internet...

Good, now I won't have to do any work. Fuck that shit, I hate being productive.

First of all, how are they going to do that? Is there a room with a big button that says "INTERNET SWITCH" that can be turned on and off? Second of all, why would do that? Don't they cease to exist if the internet is down?

It's actually quite easy to shut down peoples internet in real life, as there are many unprotected cables that could easily be cut and bring down entire countries internet services.

Cutting off the internet ON the internet though? I'm doubting the possibility of that.

That would be the equivalent of blowing off their foot.

They must've downloded it all, the crazy bastards.

That's preposterous. Why is there such a negative feeling towards Anonymous on the internet? Anonymous are the good guys. There's no "Internet Kill-Switch" that can take out the entire web in an instant. You have been trolled, or are currently trolling.

I can't stress this enough;

Anonymous, the real Anonymous, are a light shade of grey when it comes to alignment.
It CAN be good, but not always is. Project Chanology and the arrest of the cat beater were great things done by Anonymous, but it still is the self righteous vigilante of the internet.

you're joking right? anon thrives on the internet, cutting it off would be the worst thing they could do for themselves
not to mention the idea of them shutting off the entire internet is stupid, they can DoS stuff til the cows come home, but the internet isnt just something you can knock over.
well.. unless they get their hands on this:

That doesn't even make sense anyway. Why would Anonymous, who operate solely through the internet, then try and shut the entire thing off for no reason?

And I can't believe I even just wrote that.
This. If you think about it for two seconds you'll realize how ridiculous this idea is, Anonymous exists solely through the internet so bringing it down would only hurt them.

Do you have any idea how difficult that would be? How many server security protocols you'd have to hack instantaneously to be able to effectively configure a WORLD WIDE shutdown of the internet that would even last a few seconds?

Its simply not possible. And if it is, I'd love to hear the explanation specifically, no matter how far-fetched, that makes it so.

Anonymous wouldn't shut down the internet. They NEED the internet to communicate amongst themselves and release statements to the press. Why shut down their own base of operations? That's like the U.S nuking D.C. BTW, can you link where you heard about this?

This... sounds like a third-rate action movie premise. Not gonna lie.

"Mr. President! They've done it! They've... they've shut down the internets!

"Goodness, son! Which ones!?"

"All of them."

*Removes glasses* "... Oh meh gehd..."

And dear audience we answered the question. *applause*
but for your entertainment we have a simulation here to show what will happen if someone destroys the internet.

There's a couple things wrong with that story. First, Anonymous does virtually everything through the internet. Without the web, they cease to exist. Secondly, the internet isn't just one big entity. You can't just bring it to a halt by putting one program out. You would have to bring down communications towers, destroy the servers of every ISP that exists, and the reaction from all that would NOT be beneficial for Anonymous, or whoever decides to try this. It's too stupid an idea to get enough followers from Anon, or from anywhere else for that matter.

I'd not believe that statement.
Here is what im getting the program basicly severs a link between 2 points which causes the net to find away around it it does this alot in many places causing so many updates the internet comes to a halt.
That doesn't defeat the basic logical argument that Anonymous operates through the internet. It's like a company in a strip mall with lots of competition deciding to burn down the entire strip mall because buisness was difficult. Yes, it was difficult, but it's going to be even MORE difficult when the public learns that your company burned down the mall and destroyed buisness for everybody. Compare 'buisness' to ideals, and you have a general comparison about why this is a really counterproductive idea.

Plus, even if you could sever the internet feed for one location, you would have to do that millions of times, hacking through hundreds if not thousands of variations of malware defense, something that's waaaay to extreme for any program. it would require VAST amounts of money just to be able to get a hacking computer that would be able to handle the processing alone. I'm not even sure about how they would go about accessing ISP's servers.....ALL OF THEM. Like a few people have said, you can't just hit the off button on the whole damn internet with one program. After all, it's still just a program, and it would take decades to find and shut down every internet server and link.
