Word on the net is that Anonymous and several other hackers are planning something big this year. Apparently they got their hands on a program that can to put it simply bring the internet to a screeching halt. Unknown as to why I would like to believe its just a rumor not that I'm doubting their power but I fear that some innocent people may get hurt if all the pcs in the world stopped talking to each other. Does anyone else have any more info on this story or know for a fact that its a hoax?

What are you kidding me? Anon has no need to kill-switch the internet. Besides, being they're of the internet it would be like that old cartoon villain who "wants to destroy the world!".

That doesn't even make sense anyway. Why would Anonymous, who operate solely through the internet, then try and shut the entire thing off for no reason?

And I can't believe I even just wrote that.

That's preposterous. Why is there such a negative feeling towards Anonymous on the internet? Anonymous are the good guys. There's no "Internet Kill-Switch" that can take out the entire web in an instant. You have been trolled, or are currently trolling.

I can't stress this enough;

Anonymous, the real Anonymous, are a light shade of grey when it comes to alignment.

I thought the whole idea of anonymous was focused on the internet, what would they do if they turn it off? Try and hack nature or something? Play endless amounts of ping-pong?

That's if such a thing is even possible.

There's a couple things wrong with that story. First, Anonymous does virtually everything through the internet. Without the web, they cease to exist. Secondly, the internet isn't just one big entity. You can't just bring it to a halt by putting one program out. You would have to bring down communications towers, destroy the servers of every ISP that exists, and the reaction from all that would NOT be beneficial for Anonymous, or whoever decides to try this. It's too stupid an idea to get enough followers from Anon, or from anywhere else for that matter.

I'd not believe that statement.

Of course they won't. They exist only on the internet, and the internet isn't going to screech to a halt because a few kids who fancy themselves as hackers have downloaded a DDOS program.

Anonymous may be pretty powerful.
But A. Why would they do this and (most likely) cripple themselves in the process.
B. Anonymous may be able to avoid the Government, but if the Governments in their full force (as I presume they would be if the internet was "shut down") I think that they could easily at least bring the internet back up and running.

I don't see what the point would be unless they want to ruin their own hub. I thought the whole idea of anonymous was focused on the internet, what would they do if they turn it off?
Do something useful with their lives? Just a thought.

Also, Anonymous? Good guys? Really?

Here is what im getting the program basicly severs a link between 2 points which causes the net to find away around it it does this alot in many places causing so many updates the internet comes to a halt.
