Oh. boy. HERE. WE. GO.
ACTION MODE: SKIP ALL DIALOGUE OPTIONS.

Bioware: Catering to casual COD players. Because we stopped caring years ago.

Action Mode: Dialogue picked for you/skipped.
Story Mode: Hamburger Helper got her wish, Easy mode/skippable combat.
RPG Mode: Normal Mass Effect.

Hold it!

Before anyone jumps to conclusions about the mode options, there is something very important to consider:

Those options are from the demo. Not the full game.

Well, at least that's what I'm guessing. Truthfully, removing the option for dialogue choices or the combat seems completely pointless for the full game.

However, for the demo? There's people waiting in line to try it (presumably), and some demos have timers on them (such as ten minutes and you're kicked off of it automatically). Including "action" and "story" modes for the demo makes some sense, allowing the player (who only has a few minutes to play the demo) to focus on the parts they like. They want to see how the combat's changed? Pick action mode. Want to see the story? Pick story mode. Want the whole package, at the risk of running out of time before you're done? RPG mode is for you.

For even further evidence, Action mode has the difficulty set to normal. Not veteran, hardcore, or insanity. Normal.

---

Really people, stop and think about what you're looking at before hopping on the damned bandwagon.

I hope you people complaining about the graphics aren't serious.

Remember the early stuff from Dragon Age 2?

http://www.gameseyeview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/DA2firstscreen2v2-630x354.jpg

It's a beta. Any judgements made in a AAA beta are null and void.
But Dragon Age 2 DID look just as awful....

Not that I think these ME3 shots are actually finished, they were not meant to be seen. I'm just cracking a joke at Bioware's expense.

They deserve it now. Action mode is the default mode. I have no words for this.
We have truly been abandoned.
How is action mode the default mode? Because it's at the top of the list? Well fuck looks like games were dumbed down from the advent of video games because easy difficulty is the default mode for everything.

Except this isn't a demo, it's the beta. The beta, for the entire game. The real one.

But seriously, what exactly is the problem with it? It's just giving us more options, and it can't have been that difficult to implement. They're just trying to broaden their audience; nothing wrong with that.

Sure.

Although I'd like to know which universe you're in where "We have truly been abandoned" isn't a form of whining.
A one with a flare for the dramatic and a sense of humor, clearly.

This makes zero sense.
The default character is a soldier, therefore you cannot be Vanguard or somehow Vanguards are abandoned and the character creator is worthless to you. This is the "logic" you are using?
It's top of the list. It's the option Bioware is expecting most players to pick, which means it's the focus of their attention.
We saw the warning signs with Mass Effect 2. There is going to be a day where they just decide to "streamline" all the dialogue options because people defended this bullshit and there will be no options.
The money will be spent on Facebook integration instead.
Search your heart Jedi, you know it to be true!

Anyway, more screens anyone?

Oh crap. Origin.

Not even. On Bioware's forums, one of the developers said that this wasn't the Beta for January. It's not a beta, it was supposed to be some kind of internal testing build or something.

An internal testing build is exactly what a private beta (or alpha) is.

Aww its that cute kid from the demo. He gets away on a shuttle.

Go Timmy! Fly! Say goodbye to Ear-....oh dear....

Funny enough, it just leaked that COD is killing a child for dramatic effect as well.

I'm getting a Roland Emmerich vibe from all this.

This is super old news, bro. We've known that a kid gets iced in Mass Effect 3 since forever.

You actually see that kid earlier in the game in an air vent, and try to grab 'em but he runs. Or something. My memory is a bit fuzzy.

Wha- the majority of ME3 players will probably be the players from the last two? Granted, I would be tempted to skip the shitty combat but WHY get rid of dialogue and choices? THAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT THE BLOODY SERIES. This 'action' mode is completely arbitrary and pointless, and I don't even know WHY they implemented it. Why aim for a 'COD' crowd?
To sell more copies of the game.

Please tell me you "aren't a fan anymore" because of a better reason that how fast they get content (like a whole 20 minutes or an hour after another place), because, honestly, that would just be pathetic...

So it's not even default?
Bioware wouldn't expect most people to pick something when it's really the default, and you think this has changed for something that's just on a list?
It's the option Bioware is expecting most players to pick, which means it's the focus of their attention.
You have demonstrated neither of those things.

We saw the warning signs with Mass Effect 2.
Of them putting things they want you to do at the top of a list?
How?

There is going to be a day where they just decide to "streamline" all the dialogue options because people defended this bullshit and there will be no options.
So because they give us more options, we will soon have no options? You need to explain how this is going down that path.

Nope. I only found that out after I left to look for new places.

The whole community seemed kinda humorless and stuck up (as I've just rediscovered).
Really it was after the whole Extra Credits incident happened, the place just felt grimy.
Only came back to let folks know about the new info.

Now, let us return on topic. I don't really matter do I? MASS EFFECT 3! :D
New gun that shoots sticky grenades. This makes me VERY happy.

Wrex is glorious. Shame he dies at the end of the beta...

You looked.
