I'm not even a Brit, and even I can tell you what's wrong with that link.

It's The Sun. No one takes them seriously, for pretty much everyone knows them for the despicable sensationalist populists they are.

Ahh, The Sun. Such a high-regarded newspaper.

The reporting does go a little too far in blaming games, but at least they're not calling for an out-right ban, which surprises me. All I see is the guy's father not wanting people to play for too long at a time, which is what you should be doing anyway.

Also, yeah, I can kind of see how games are getting the blame here, but I don't agree with it. It's the guy's fault for sitting there for half a day, and any sort of sedentary activity could result in DVT.

"He lived for his Xbox", well theres a sad statement in itself.

To be honest what do they expect, if they already know that doing anything while sitting still for hours on end can cause DVT, then why didnt they link it in with......sitting still for hours on end while playing games, can cause DVT?

Sounds like just another witch hunt to me

AND THEN, think of all the people who spend eight hours a day in an office chair at work. Conclusion: WORK KILLS, STAY AT HOME, LIVE ON WELFARE.

You can tell it's bullshit because it's the sun and they say "it was fatal and came on without warning in someone young and fit." Now, the Sun won't let me use the image, but look at him. He doesn't look too fit to me.

All this says to me is either: Get a Wii or move around a bit when gaming (I use a bouncy ball for a chair).

I'm sure the same thing would happen to him if he marathoned films for 12 hours a day!
This is both tragic and yet another example of scapegoating gaming.

I know everybody is going to scream bloody murder about this, but I actually think the article isn't that bad. The headline is a little provocative, but actually not that far besides the truth. Sitting still is what killed him, but he did it because of his XBOX. That's not really the fault of video games, but I do think it is something everybody who plays a lot of games should be aware of.

You know what else can kill you: Shoving a rolled up magazine down your throat. Just ask Ripley.

Maybe we should ban the printed media, too.

Yeah, just more bullshit. Hell, the father isn't even really blaming games:

"I'm not for one minute blaming the manufacturer of Xbox. It isn't their fault that people use them for so long. But I want to highlight the dangers that can arise.

"Playing on it for so long is what killed him* - and I don't want another child to die."

I think anytime a paper of television show using grossly misleading titles like "Death By X-Box", people should use the argument that they're being racist as discussed here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111965-Expert-Says-Blaming-Videogames-for-Violence-is-Racist].

*emphasis mine

Oh fuck off, I sit and spend over 12 hours on my Xbox/PC almost every day. Yeah sure sitting in one position for ages can cause DVT, don't blame it on video games because that's racist.

True. I only read it because Dear Deidre is the closest thing I have to a guilty pleasure.

They have a point there. Maybe we should ban all trans-Atlantic flights as well, just to be sure?

It's actually because he was a fatass that did nothing BUT gaming and eating.

If I did nothing but lying down I'd die from it aswell.

I didn´t really expect quality journalism from "The Sun", but that´s probably still a new low, especially since looking at the main page, it appears to be one of their four big headlines for today.
I also love how everyone except the guy writing it seemed to notice that the problem was the lack of exercise, not playing games itself.

Lets face it; to popular culture: video games / Gamer's are still regarded as producers of homicidal maniacs and axe murderers. It's so idiotic to think that, for an industry that hasn't been around for half a lifetime, it has advanced so far and yet the stigma remains the same.

There's no Pleasing Some People... Quick to curse the industry's existence and not the incompetence of the individual.
