Started playing the PSP version, the unlockables look cool, and the gameplay feels like they finally made a Star Wars beat'em all right (Jedi Power Battles ? playa please...), why always whine it's not a Jedi Knight game, and did you honestly expect they would milk Jedi Knight to death, and ruin the controls ?

It's a great series, and so far if it's over, well no big deal, it's still good games.

I've started the game prologue, and playing Vader is sexcellent, the way he slowly walks forward bending props at will with the Force is great, and if the whole game is a Force-based overkill, then it's all good ! (see the comic linked in my previous post)

My only real complaint with The Force Unleashed - or at least the 360 demo, which left me unimpressed enough to stay away from the game - is the horrible targeting, which made it next to impossible to pick up what I wanted to in any area that had more than a couple of crates in it (which would be all of them).

Your kick-ass dark jedi is significantly less impressive when he spends most of his time fumbling around being shot, as he's vainly trying to get the reticule to move to that stormtrooper slightly too close to a wall panel.

This means I will wait for it to enter 2 for £20 at Gamestation then I suppose. To be honest with the amount of hype it had behind it I wasn't suprised that it couldn't live up to it. Doesn't help that it was part of a multi-media project either whihc completely wiped ou the options for extra endings.

I tried the demo after reading this and I thought that it wasn't too bad.

Okay, reflecting shots off of your lightsabre seems to be a complete waste of time but other than that it was fun to go around cleaving people apart with the force.

About the complaint that the character is overpowered and can't die:
1. thats what the higher difficulties are for, try hard if you're finding it too easy.

2. considering that many games (shooters most notably) have made your character underpowered and vulnerable to death at any time, having the ability to wade through a room of heavily armed goons with little if any reason to worry makes for a nice change of pace.

I haven't played it yet, so this webcomic will speak in my stead
And speak well it did.

Anyways I have to say I was completely underwhelmed by the demo of TFU, especially with realizing I'd have to kill large objects with QTE instead of utterly annihilating them with the powers given to me

Then I played the full game and I absolutely loved it. I don't care that it's short or it's not too deep and there's no multiplayer what matters is that I threw a goddamn stormtrooper through a window into deep space and took two of his buddies out with it due to explosive deccompression. I turned a body into an improvised explosive. I threw a lightsaber at a soldier who tried to run away from it only to be cut down viscerally.

In short, I had fun because all I had to go on was a few simple things. "You need to be here, guys are in your way. KILL THEY ASS."

Oh by the way, Force Push and Force Grip count as light-side powers, kthnx.

In short, I doubt this was a mediocre game because I don't play games that are mediocre (in my opinion of course, your mileage may vary). If I wanted to play a mediocre game that doesn't deserve attention I would've played Gears of War.

I wouldn't mind trying it. I've heard both sides, and I want to decide if I like it by myself.
But about the ridiculously short game-play.. Someone on my msn was boasting how he finished it. I laughed silently at him and then wondered who he was.

I'm playing it during my break at the office right now (psp), and apart from the dodgy aiming, it really renders the feeling of being an unstoppable Jedi/Sith quite well, one-hit-killing Wookies for instance, or Force-crushing them is at least satisfactory, at most awesome.

Even better, ripping off a turret from the crew's hands, and have it blast them while it hovers near you... deliciously evil...

I agree, it was terrible. The big flaws however were none that you mentioned, the big flaw was the terrible gameplay and stupidly large health bars. They simply spent all their time making cool looking moves and in the end what you got was a series of movies that realy arn't much better than eachother.

Wookiepedia disagrees, as do I. Neutral/Universal powers perhaps, but considering the amount of 'Dark' jedi who use the telekinesis powers (force push, pull, grip) so readily, I'm inclined to say they're not light-side aligned anymore than they are dark-side aligned.

Nerd please. Any force power used to directly inflict harm is a Dark force power. In the case of the "telekenetic" powers, intent is whats important- are you defending someone, trying NOT to hurt someone with your burny lightsaber, OR- are you throwing peices of piping at your dumbass son?

Now, something like Lightning is pure Darkside, and something like healing is pure lightside.

Nerd fight over, lets get back on topic. Havn't played it yet, i'll probably give it a rental or wait a few months for the price to go down and enjoy it for what it is. A Mindless and stupid beat em up where you get to kill Wookies.

Use lightning to power up a life support machine which keeps twenty soldiers alive.
Use healing to heal a Sith Lord who then goes on to commit countless acts of cruelty.

;D Nothing is as simple as all that. I still maintain that the 'telekinetic' powers are neutral though.

I agree with Joe, game review section (you played the game, you're making an opinion on it)

I have not had the opportunity yet, but I am surprised at the game-play being eight hours. I understand the move to shorter games, but theyu should be less expensive.

Sounds like a bad game, the reason that people give it mediocre scores is because:
1. If you are a review site you do not give a big gun like Lucas Arts bad scores because you're afraid they'll stop sending you stuff.
2. Gamer reviews are generally skewed on Star Wars titles by fanboys or gamers who are easily taken by movie IPs and fancy Lucas-like effects.

The realities of the game review world, A Lucas Arts game that scores a near perfect score is probably pretty good, but a Lucas Arts game that scores average is most assuredly crap, and we'll never know if one of their games is truly excellent until we play them ourselves.

-Holds hand up, making the motion of a person talking-

All I hear from this thread is "blah, blah, blah, this game sucks because Lucas sucks, blah, blah, Jedi Knight owns, blah blah"

Seriously, I thought we'd be mature about this...

Anyway, having read the novel before hand, I'd have to say that the game could've used a bit of a spit shine and some polish...

Some plot elements were ignored, there were some difficulties with targeting...But really, now? I played for two reasons: the story (which WAS better then episode one AND three in terms of pacing) and the ability to kick ass with the force...Needless to say, I got my wish.

People complain too much nowadays...whether about graphics, the lack of a good story, or even gameplay...and here I was honestly expecting better...more civilised debate about this game...But noooo

Scores don't count to me...The only thing that counts to me is whether I had fun or not...and I did. It seems that people forget these days that games are ment to be fun...Star Wars or not.

Alrite lets give the force unleashed a fair deal here

Good points =)

1. It is fun to pick people upa nd throw them around and takes a while to get old
2. You can actually pull off a good few combos and feel rather badass
3. The locations are average but there are some nice points like the sarlac stomach which was nothing short of surreal
4. A decent storeyline even though it is sponging off of the Star Wars canon
5. A few wow moments where the storeyline fits right into place and adds something cool and original like the creation fo the rebellion
6. Your powers are cool to the point of orgasm and blwoing an entire sqaud of people off a bridge will never get old
7. DMM and Havok worked well within the game engine although could ahve been exploited better
8. Character design and costumes are very well made and good voice acting helps towards an immersive experience

Bad points =(

1. You have to load every fucking menu which is nothing short of infuriating
2. The euphoria engine was pretty bad, lifelike reactions while being thrown around bad reactions when being chaged at by a lightsaber weilding maniac
3. "In a monstor spam sandwhich being able to aim at priority targets is a must" This is not a game where enemy spamming is fun or effective, it is actually frustrating and repetitive
4. Why does everything explode, i've lost count of the number of times i've been fighting and randomly been knocked back because even the coffee machines are packed with TNT
5. Bugs... lots of bugs
6. Bad gameplay choices, if i want to bring down a star destroyer i definetly don't want to have to stop every 3 seconds to fight off a wave of 12 tie fighters
7. For the last half of the game all the fun is sucked out because all the enemies are immune to force grip push lightening, can randomly teleport, have stun guns, all other weapons knock you over and they can all take a stupid amount of damage.
8. The game trys to amke itself hard to play so it will be more fun, you knwo by introducing harder enemies, but theres no extra strategy to killing these enemies in fact theres less because you cant use half of your powers against them, it basically substitutes easy fun for challenging frustration

I could go on forever with bad gameplay and design choices but i really can't be bothered, overall i think the game would ahve been much better if they had kept it simple, sure the enemies can be harder, more challenging. The problem is that it doesnt become challenging it just sucks out all of the good points about having awesome force power, what the fuck is the point of making a game where you wield awesome force powers.... on enemies that aren't affected by them??

I cant be bothered to spell check this... so go away grammar fairy
