It always amazes me how involved US citizens seem to get with their politics
Actually, they only get "involved" to the point of overreacting to the actions of the president they didn't vote for (when in fact a huge chunk of them didn't vote at all.)

So they are people who have alot of posters saying something you don't agree with. I still fail to see the problem.
I have no problem with it I'm just surprised how quickly and how many these posters were put up. (And like I said, he looks freaky.)
If you don't have a problem with it, then why make a thread about it?
Because he has internet access and is bored.

Basically the same reason you are asking stupid questions.
Fair enough, I suppose. But I wouldn't have called those questions 'stupid'. I was trying to root out his dilemma.
Your question seemed kind of loaded so I took it abrasively.

My bad :p.

So I was walking home from college minding my own business, when I saw a poster of Obama with the Joker face paint and with the words "Why so socialist?". At first I was surprised and started laughing. But then there is another poster at a near by bus stop. Then another and another and another. The town's main road is literally littered with these posters. Also I noticed another poster next to it talking about "Swine flu genocide" and "Don't take the vaccination". (WTF!?)Now I'm all for free speech and all but this seems a bit too much. Not to mention Obama looks freaky with that face paint.
This is why I think freedom of speech is overrated - because the stupid and dellusional get an equal voice to the smart, educated, and/or people with hard scientific data.

Has this happen in your town? Can anyone please explain what these posters are talking about?

Any help will much appreciated.

Be polite. No bashing or flaming please.

Edit: I get the Obama Joker one but the swine flu poster has me confused.
My guess would be more idiots who don't understand Obama's propositions. I mean, they'd bash him for not doing enough about swine flu, but as soon as he proposes a way they can get free healthcare, HELL NO. THAT'S COMMUNIST.

so they are saying that obama is a sociopaths who kills people just cos it causes chaos and cos it's "fun". that makes little sense if you applay it literally.

also, who goes around putting up posters telling people not to take a vaccine to a semi-dangerous virus.

who says they kill people because they think it's fun? Do you think the joker thought it was fun? Maybe he looked at it but the way I saw the joker in batman he had a very elaborate idea of what he was trying to do...

And who? those people who think the vaccine is actually a contagion rather than a cure, who are you to prove them wrong?

edit: messed up quote

Edit 2

The stupid and delusional? My friend, if that is your example of why freedom of speech is overrated, labling these people as stupid and/or delusional. In that case you should take back what you said about having an equal voice to the smart, educated and/or people with hard scientific data.

reasons being that you are 1) not educated but brainwashed. 2) not smart but merely a sheep and 3) you have no hard scientific data until proven otherwise

We have very good reason to say that he is communistic... he wants to take over my industry next, they are talking about replacing Cisco Certifications with a governmental program to secure the internet as well as we would be required to give all security info to the government so that they have full control of our networks.
Source? Sorry, but I can't take your word for it.
Ooooo.. here you go... It is called the "Cybersecurity Act of 2009"... If this passes, government will have full control of ALL business. Period.

First off Contribute something to the conversation troll. Second I did... go to the thread.. I summarize it for simpletons such as yourself. I read the whole thing... obviously you didn't understand it.

Nobody will deny that the news are idiots.

No, more because they thought theyd be witty by using a character and line which has nothing to do with the issue they believe is present.
actually i think they thought they'd be witty using a character over-used line.

No to the first... Yes to the second, but it's like saying Greece is closer to Italy than China is.

I think that the posters are a bit shallow, they've been around since Obama started sweriously running.
When George W Bush screwed the pooch (Iraq / Economy) there were very people that protested.
Then Obama comes to power and uses the rights of the office to try and mop up and 'Voila' the republicans are ready to jump on his every decision. I don't agree with all of his policies, but still...
Personally, I think most of it is just the conservative anger at Obama for winning the election
I agree, my friend gets in my face a lot because I like Obama, and he always says he's evil because he's passing bills that will doom us, yet he doesn't bring up any other possible way the economy could be fixed, like many conservatives I've heard..
People are just angry because he is making decisions during a tough time and passes bills that don't have their full effect right away.
But yes, everyone has an opinion.
Aha, no.

The democrats eviscerated Bush for every damn thing he did, from starting a sentence with a preposition to not pulling our support on a de-stabilized country.

At least the republicans are making a fuss over valid concerns. If you want to talk about brutally frivolous disrespect, look on the other side of the aisle.
I actually agree with you here, which may mean I contradict myself. I don't get heated over what Obama does, or any President does, but I do not like some of the things he does at all. I just favor him over Mccain.

I wonder how Hillary Clinton would have been....O>O

But the normals get short changed when you take it away.
Fuck the normals, they insist on things that don't make sense because left/right/centre wing media outlet/newspaper/blogger/medical quack told them it made sense. See the whole MMR mess up over here, caused by one quack doctor who did unethnical experiments on children.

Not that I'm saying the intelligent people could do any better, we'd at least have the knowledge it really couldn't have been done better.

Oh goodie, someone who's heard the word 'sheep', and maybe even 'sheeple', and thinks labelling people it invalidates their points. As it happens, I was being half joking, but sadly the internet does not transmit that well. In an ideal world, everyone everywhere would be informed about everything all the time. As for the real world, freedom of speech is a alright, I suppose.

As for my education, well, there are 2 Universities that would disagree with you, but given I don't feel like posting all my personal details for everyone to see, it'd be somewhat hard to prove.

Also, Reason, sentences being with capitals.

Oh goodie gum drops, a conspiracy 'theorist' - Yeah, the swine flu is one giant hoax and the whole world is in fact in the middle of a genocide under the pretence of a vaccine. Also, THE MOON IS FAKE! ITS JUST A GIANT CARDBOARD CUT OUT.

The reason why these fuckers shouldn't have freedom of speech is because dumb or evil shits like these get people and kids killed. Don't believe me, see the MMR vaccine muck up here in UK land: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMR_vaccine#Claims_about_autism

Thanks to the wholy unethnical and unsupported statements made by a quack, a large part of the population are now at risk of a Measles outbreak. Alot of them children.

Freedom of speech also requires Responsiblity of speech; if you make shit up, you should bare the legal blame for that. How many people could die if/when swine flu returns in the winter, as predicted by scientists. How many girls are going to get cervical cancer thanks to scum who say the vaccine that'd protect them from the virus known to cause one form of it actually encourages girls to sleep around.

Frankly, they won't bare the burden of their lies and bullshit because their victims are the one's who'll have to live with the effects.

I haven't seen posters, but several bumper stickers. One has a picture of Obama and says White Guilt '08. Another said President Obama is a heathen, pagan, lost sinner and calls for him to accept the Christian faith, though I don't remember the exact wording. I just face-palmed at that one, especially since the driver was a rather beautiful late 20s woman.

As for the swine flu posters, all I can say is that a conspiracy is all around us! Swine flu is obviously caused by a galatic organization called the None Human Killers, also known as the NHK!
indeed and also you picture describes my reaction to this!

All Obama has done wrong so far (besides the stimulus package-debatable) is expect people to educate themselves on the health care bill he was intending to pass. Instead they just start practically rioting in the streets rather than read a little bit.
Wow! So if he wanted everyone to read it then what was the rush to get it passed before break? What was with the 300 pages added to it 4 hours before it was to be voted on? What is with the fact that prior to break the vast majority of Congress (or their aides) hadn't even read the bill?? Don't kid yourself that he wanted people to read it and certainly don't come spouting your drivel to the rest of us because you are extremely misinformed like all but a small handful (thankfully from both sides) of posters in this thread.

Our government fails in nearly everything it does. People are right to be concerned with them taking over an industry that accounts for nearly 20% of our GDP considering their horrible track record. It is those of you that are not concerned that astound me. I am sorry but you can't just walk into office and propose massive changes like this and expect people to just roll over and accept them (without even having a chance to read them!). No.

As for the tea parties... It is unfortunate that the Republicans jumped onto that wagon as they made it into a big us versus them pissing war with the Democrats and people ended up missing the entire point, which was good. It was a non-partisan affair. It was anti-government. It was about getting back to the roots that our Founding Fathers put forth in the Constitution.

As for the person posting about the Cisco certs being trumped by the new government certs. I read the same article on Slashdot. I forget the actual source as \. just linked it but yeah. Scary stuff. Give an inch....
umm you quoted the wrong person i didn't say that or your making stuff up...

less dangerous than reg flu btw
I wouldn't go as far to say its less dangerous then the regular flu. Since swine flu is a respiratory virus, it can kill many people, including my girlfriend whom I care for very much since she is an asthmatic. Its very scary because while you may be able to get over it, some other people won't. And when it spreads the way it does, its worrying to say the least.
lets look at the numbers here
SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) deaths (for those who can't remember what SARS is it was just like swine flu only more panic) aprox 774 (world wide)

Swine Flu 2008-2009 deaths : 2,800 (world wide as of today)

2008 seasonal Influenza virus deaths: aprox 30,000 (United States of America only)

so that's just the numbers also the infection values for swine flu are below average for an influenza i can't remember exactly what the value is called or what the exact number was.
Congratulations, you posted numbers. Because, ya know, numbers protect people!
anyone with an understanding of these numbers can realise how much the media has blown this whole thing out of proportion.
