Any of you own an actual gun?

I don't own a gun because the layout of my small home with multiple rooms and never anything more than an 8 foot stretch without an obstruction means my dogs and several clubbing and stabbing weapons that I keep on hand serve the purpose of home defense better. I do have a concealed weapon permit though, comes with the job, but the sheer number of places that don't allow you to carry a concealed weapon even with a permit (most stores, most malls, all public government buildings and schools) makes being a law abiding citizen who would be armed in such places an impossibility so I don't carry one when I am out either.

Nothing against guns though, when I move into a larger home in about a year and some months I will have a fully loaded weapon within easy reach of myself in multiple rooms though. To have a gun that isn't fully loaded and ready to fire and claim to have it for home defense is defeating the purpose of owning one quite frankly.

I personally own an old LEver action Remington 30-30. I received from my dad when I made an offhand mention how much I like the aesthetic of the old lever action rifle. Have yet to shoot it due to lack of place to do so.

Sorry to everyone else for posting something so large, but this guy's attitude really gets on my nerves.

Nope. We Aussies have outlawed guns because we've got this crazy idea that they're 'dangerous' and that 'accidents happen' and that 'people get hurt.' Crazy, innit?
It's not as if there are stories of tragic deaths and violent shootouts coming from the states every five minutes.

A whole lot of good that's done for you.

I apologize if I sounded like I was giving you "attitude." I wasn't aware that that source was biased as I'm not Australian. Most of what you said makes sense. Some of what you said is like California's stance towards guns. A bit is like the rest of America's stance towards guns, especially the part about criminals not allowed to own guns. However, if someone wants a gun badly enough, they will do every thing in their power to get one. This includes going to the black market. Where do you think gangs get their guns? I understand that taking a harder stance towards guns can reduce gun related crime, but that will just give rise to another type of crime. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be shot than stabbed.

I own a crossbow, an impressive array of old, used swords and daggers. I also go to the archery range often enough and have fired small caliber guns.

Sadly, though I like them, I doubt I'll ever pass the psychological exam to get one.

Nice shotgun, is your rifle an actual Dragonov or a civilian copy?
Thanks. I love my AL-48. She's kind of an oldie, too. Made in 1968.

...that's not a real Dragunov, though (unfortunately). It's a Romanian PSL, built using the Kalashnikov action.
Oh my, however did you get your hands on that? It's really nice.

True, outlawed was the wrong word. I should have gone with clamped down on, or something. Anyway, I knew that you could get guns if you lived in the bush and whatnot, but I thought that was pretty much it. After you corrected me, I had a look, and now I feel like a bit of an idiot :p
Anyway, thanks for correcting me. At least I learned something, right?
That's alright, a lot of people don't have much of an idea how works over here. Along with hunting and farming uses, people also shoot targets and skeet. For getting a license the requirements aren't actually that hard, it's just the time and effort.

The funny thing is in some areas we're more loose than California, we can have detachable mags and don't get finger printed for ammo.

I live in Scotland and there ain't much call for guns. I have 2 nerf guns but they don't count (a modified maveric and a raider in bits (2b modified)). Scotland don't use guns as america does. We use knives. We like being personal.

Don't need one, what with living in the UK, but I've been shooting in the past.

What I could obtain with legal dispensation is too expensive, and I'd prefer to spend my money in the pub, rather than running around in a field with a shotgun shooting little metal targets, or lying down indoors as still as possible shooting the precise centre of a bit of paper.

Nope it's illegal in my country. Basically only hunters, national guard soldiers and gun collectors own weapons (and gun collectors can only own deactivated weapons that are relevant to his collection. If he collects WW2 weapons he's only allowed to have WW2 weapons for example).

I don't think I would buy a gun even if it legal.

Cripes. Another of these threads.
What's the obsession with guns all the time >.>

Anyway, No.
I have nothing more to add to that other than
I am English.
So I doubt I ever will.
I consider them uncouth and dirty things.
You can much more easily solve a mugging or defend yourself with a scolding cup of tea.
Uncouth and dirty things? Wow, you are really doing your nation a disservice by practically proving singlehandedly the stereotype that British people are smarmy tossers. Anyway, you obviously have never heard of the invention called the curb-stomp, but Im sure the day you splash someone desperate enough to rob people at gunpoint for cash is the day you find out exactly what a curb-stomp is. Its a shame you didn't stop after saying you had nothing more to add.
You don't seem to have grasped the fact that it was a joke.
Seriously? Does anyone think that you can stop a mugger because British people always have scolding hot cups of tea?
Nice.
Scalding hot cups of tea, certainly. Scolding? Well, I suppose a cup of hot tea that criticises a mugger and calls them out on their every character flaw would be mildly effective, if bizarre.

But no, no sane British person - myself included - would try to stop anyone with tea. Really, that's an awfully silly idea.

That's what the monocle nunchucks are for.

Bad picture, I know, but still. Laser monocle.

Oh, and the last word on headgear: The chapeau of magnetic inversion. Deflecting bullets with science.

As for the thread itself... Well, I live in Japan (guns are outlawed), and I'm a pacifist. Also I don't buy into the whole guns-for-self-defense thing (if you do, that's fine, but I don't). So no, don't own a gun, never will.

The AL-48 was actually an impulse buy at a gun shop when I was looking for a revolver (one I still haven't found). I figured I didn't have a 12 gauge yet, and it's a pretty unique 12 gauge... plus it was dead cheap. Very lucky find.

The PSL... well, here's the story of how I became registered with the state as the owner of what they officially label a "sniper rifle" (which it's not. If I own a sniper rifle, the M16A2 with an ACOG scope I had overseas was actually a Walther WA2000):
I found it advertised online with a local(ish) phone number, so I called and expressed my interest in it.
...then I found myself driving out into a completely unfamiliar part of the middle of nowhere. Got lost and had to call for directions a bunch of times, in places where my car was in danger of getting stuck and cell phone reception was very, very bad...
In the end, I wound up in front of one of those automated gates you find across the driveway to a mansion. It opened, and an eighth mile or so later I found myself at pretty much the mansion I expected. The man inside who sold it to me had a credit card machine set up on his (huge) dining room table, and an office-style speaker phone with which he was in contact with the state police to transfer ownership records to me. Apparently the guy usually ships weapons to people all over the country, he found it odd that someone local even found one of his listings.
All-in-all it was a very strange experience. Started out feeling like a black market arms deal, then wound up very professional and official in the end.

Don't own any, but I do plan on buying a few. I've fired a M249 SAW, M4, AK-47, Beretta M9, H&K USP .40, and H&K Mk23.

Nope. I live in Canada, and see absolutely no reason for anyone to need a gun other than for hunting purposes in some of the more remote areas of the country. I don't need a gun to make me feel safe and secure, or to make me feel like a badass...being Canadian covers both those things pretty well already.

There's an AR-15, an old double barrel shotgun, and an also old Arisaka rifle. There used to be an M1 garand as well.

Be it for protection or fun. I was curious how many of you that play games actually know how a real gun is like. Any of you just shot one? Post some pictures if you want!

For me I own six guns currently. Three handguns and and three rifles.
- a 1911 .45 Stainless steel.
- A .357 Magnum revolver with a 6 inch barrel
- A .22 heritage rough rider revolver with a 9 inch barrel

- A vintage 1918 British .303 (from my grandpa)
- A .22 rifle. As normal as they come
- A custom built AR-15. (my baby)

So what about you guys?
Nice mini-collection. I have 3.
Ithaca model 66. It's a single shot 20 gauge, break action.
Remington 870 express. Pump action 12 gauge, amazingly reliable, pretty cheap. Only shotgun of choice.
Don't remember the model. Semi-auto .22 long rifle. pretty standard, an amazing gun to have fun shooting.

I suppose I also kinda own my dad's 2 30-30 Remington carbines, cuz they are family rifles. Same with that lever action Remington .22
Soon as I get some money saved up, I'm gonna buy 2 more.
.300 Remington ultra-mag rifle, Haven't decided on barrel length yet, but It'll prolly be 24 or 26 inch.
.38 revolver, 7 inch barrel, haven't picked out the model yet. any suggestions?

Meh, I've got a BB handgun that I was given when I was a kid. I don't know what kind it is (nor do I care) and I haven't done anything with it for years. Maybe I can sell it.
