Any transsexuals here? Or transgenders? Do you happen to at least know a person who's trans? I figured that since the community at The Escapist is so lively, there might be some. If there aren't any, I guess this thread could double as an "Ask a transgender anything" thread, I dunno.

Anyway, I'm transgender. I'm neutrois, which means my gender identity is that belonging to neither man or woman and that I wish to lose the physical traits of my biological sex. I'm not sure if it's going to be a possibility for me in my country, but one can only hope.

Last summer, I had the honour of meeting another transgendered person IRL for the first time and talking about gender issues with them. It was just... awesome. I've also met some transsexuals and they've been very inspiring people to me.
...damn I want to ask you guys so many questions but I don't think that's appropriate...
But... is it 'guys', or 'girls'?

On a serious topic however, what is it like? Having no sexual preference what so ever?
Well, it's hard to describe a lack of something. When I try to imagine how sexual attraction feels, it's like trying to imagine what childbirth or a kick in the balls feels like. I have never given birth to a child and I don't have balls so... I can only make assumptions based on what I've learned about other people.

I also haven't experienced arousal, so for example seeing a sex scene in a movie feels the same as watching a couple of walruses boinking each other in an animal documentary.

... Replace walruses with something you don't find erotic if you by some incredible chance are into that sort of thing.

Depends if they are MtF or FtM.
MtF would be girls, and FtM would be guys.
Oh, and I can answer you question on no sexual preference.
In the sense of having no sexual feelings/attraction >.>

Hey. Trans woman member of the escapist here. There's loads of us around, compared to other sites - not that I'm surprised.

I forget who said it, but there's a line about sex being like sticking your finger in someone's nose, only pleasurable. I don't know what it's like to have no sex drive or sexual attraction, but the metaphor seemed apt.

Yeah... In all crudeness, that's what it at least seems to be.

You're either going to love me or hate me for this...

But yeah, that jumped out at me---there are a lot of transsexual Escapists. Not me, though. In the words of Calvin, "It's great to be male!"

I have always been fascinated with transgendered people and I would love to ask a few questions!

do you primarily have male or female friends?

have you had any serious partners? if yes, were they trans gender too?

do you see hetero relationships as foreign? (that's how i see homosexual relations, not because i am prejudice, but because I could never see myself with another man)

does being transgenders make for incredibly awkward social situations?

Sorry for all the questions but I have never met a transsexual before.
I have fairly equal parts female and male friends.

I have a serious partner and they aren't transgender.

Foreign? No, that's just another way of enjoying your life and finding love.

I'm very open about being transgender so it may be awkward for others but not me. Simply, if you don't like it you need to grow up and embrace the new world.

:)

Oh wow... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one ^^
I'm Tabitha, a transgirl from Sydney, a few friends and my mother knows about me and I'm going into therapy soon. I can't wait.

I have some questions, though Verp, these probably have already been answered/addressed/rendered irrelevant in your comprehensive and informative posts.

Does being transgender impact on your sexual orientation? Is it part of it?

For those who are asexual, how do you feel about romance? if it doesn't appeal to you, why not? if you're asexual what does that mean for gender preference when dealing with romantic, non-sexual relationships? Are those relationships possible?

I realise these questions are potentially difficult to answer, but as a heterosexual male with no transgender or asexual or aromantic friends, I find it difficult to comprehend these things.

I apologise if I have offended anyone, I am just trying to learn and understand. The best way to come to appreciate something is to understand it.

(and just to be clear, I understand homosexuality, it's complete lack of sexual interest that I can't grasp.)

Don't worry, there are MANY quite a few transsexuals on the escapist. Your like the 5th one i've seen

I'm extremely open minded and I'm incredibly hard to offend. I've had several people call me a shemale in public, and I've just ignored them.
If you want to ask questions.... I'm your gal ^^.

I have primarily female friends, but I have a few male ones too.
I've had several serious partners, only one of which was transgendered.
I don't see hetero realtionships as foreign. I myself am a transgirl and a lesbian, but once I start on the hormone replacement therapy, I expect that to change as your brain chemistry is altered and you percieve things differently. I may turn out to be a completely straight woman, who knows? I am prepared for it though.
Being transgendered does make for incredibly awkward social situations.
The other day i was walking down central station and a drunk adolescent male said "holy shit, are you a boy or a girl?!"
that's life... you learn to deal with it after a while.

Greetings!

I am a Transexual MtF, and the creator of the [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Transgenders-of-Escapist]Transgenders of Escapist[/a] group, currently at 18 members.
I know that there are even more so but they may or may not want to join it because of many different and varied reasons.
I've been planning to make a group open to the public of Escapist so that more could be informed about what Trans-people are since there is a lot of hate for us on this page, a suprising amount even. Which is why a poster in this thread even commented;
"Suprised this haven't turned into a flame war yet".

So yes, we most certainly are around.

PS. I shall make my plans I mentioned here within two hours.
Oh wow...! A trans escapist group. I did a search for something like this ages ago but couldn't find anything.
That is so awesome! I am so joining. Do you have like steam games with trans groups, because that would be so cool to play with other individuals like myself on steam.
Tabitha here.
22, MtF ts, pre hrt, just starting therapy. Would it be okay if I added you on steam?

I quite honestly don't know where the impact of my gender identity on my sexual orientation starts and where it ends. A certain transitioned woman I've talked to several times once hinted that maybe the reason I'm not attracted to other people is because I'm so disconnected from my body right now since it's "wrong" in its current state and that my brain sort of rejects it, but I have a hard time believing it.

A lot of asexuals are romantic and their choices usually are to have compromise sex with a sexual partner or find another asexual and form a couple with them. Both seem to work, although the strain of compromise sex is sometimes just too much for an asexual or it may feel too fake for the sexual partner. Sometimes a sexual partner opts to be celibate or seeks sexual intimacy by their own hand or outside the relationship, which is another thing that's either a hit or a miss and needs some serious conviction and communication skills to pull off without either side of the relationship feeling neglected and hurt.

Since I'm aromantic asexual, however, I don't desire sex or romance. I just don't see what benefits a romantic partnership would have to offer to me, since I just don't see it appealing at all. I don't feel a need for a special someone and I dread the thought of being someone's special someone, especially if it comes with the idea that I "belong" to somebody.

Romantic relationship seems to make life itself a joint effort and that just doesn't sit well with me. I know I'm not completely self-sufficient: I need other people and I enjoy sharing my victories and losses with other people, indulging in rivalry with them, and cheering people on, but if life's a sport, I want my performance on the field to be a solo performance.

If anyone wants to add me to steam, that's fine by me. My Steam ID is
[ESC]Mrs Self-Destruction and my PSN name is just as it is in this forum (Daedalus1942).

I'll answer any questions anybody has, and I think we should try to get a trans escapist gaming group together. I've NEVER met any other tg or ts gamers in all my years of living. I think it would be a really great idea.

I hope I'm not aalone in this train of thought, but the carriage seems to be pretty emtpy :(
Even the waitresses aren't anywhere to be seen :(

I have two questions:

Firstly, what does the different terms mean exactly: Transvestite, Transexual etc. And what is considered okay to refer you as? Transsexual sounds more like an scientific term to me.

Secondly, for those that are asexual, don't you feel very alienated? So much of our culture revolves around love and/or sex. From love songs on the radio, romance movies, pornography etc. After all, the sex drive is considered to be a huge part of our psychology.
