What foul necromancy is this? A two year old thread brought back from the grave!
Someone actually used the search? It's weird. No one actually uses that thing even after people say to use it so much.

Unrelated:
I only agree because of Twilight Princess.
Going back to an Ocarina of Time feel didn't work, since we've already had that.
The dungeons really need to be back to OoT standards, but it needs some kinda gimmick to keep it fresh. I've found Majora's Mask, Windwaker and Twilight Princess all had weak dungeons.

Oh, and Twilight Princess wasted the best new item in a long time. That spinner boss was so damn fun, I wanted to use the spinner more and more, but you only used it like, one more time after that.

One thing needs to change to bring it up to date. FOR ONCE CHANGE THE GODDAMN ITEMS
Its always the boomerang, hookshot, bowandarrow formula

Alright, instead of a bow, we'll have a gun! Instead of a hookshot, we'll have the spy-kit 3000!

It doesn't look like a Zelda game already with just 2 minor changes.

might as well keep flogging this poor beast.

the Zelda games hold a very personal meaning for me, 'LttP' having been the first game that I actually sat down and played properly. The storyline is pretty much the same in most of the games - get in trouble, go to save someone, end up going to save the princess/world/etc, kick Ganon's arse once again. There are dungeons, items to find, puzzles to solve. etc etc.

To some, it might seem very boring and tired, but I can't help but love it. Everytime I start a new game, I feel like I've returned back to the Zelda 'world', whether some of the characters are actually from old games, just look like them, or just give you those pieces of useless advice. The controllers never change, or if they do they're only improved.
I think of it like one of my favourite books, 'Pride and Prejudice'. I've read it god-knows how many times, but I never grow tired of it. Zelda's like that. Even with some of the larger changes (like the mood of WW), I happy to check it out. I recently read 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies', and heartily recommened it.

I think the main point of this thread died a long time ago (just like this thread probably should have), but I think it's safe to say that TP wasn't the breaker. PH was a reasonable success (though I want to KILL whoever thought it was a bright idea to make that Sea God's Temple so goddamn ANNOYING). It's possible that a later game will ruin it for me, but so far, I'm good. And since I usually take so long to start playing games, people will tell me which game is the killer, and I will refuse to acknowledge it, and go back to fishing at Lake Hylia (=3=)

Its just theres a limit to the number of new and intresting puzzles you can come up with using exactly the same tools every single time, the novelty just dies. Who suggested guns and spykits?

No. It never really fails to keep me playing for hours into the night. As long as they introduce new equipment and stories (No, they are not identical and I think it's unfair to say it's the same through out the series).

I personally feel that the next LoZ game should incorporate more of the hook-rope from windwaker, which I totally digged.

I actually think it's a pretty good formula...you get the most out of every item and it keeps the story pretty good

There's always new stuff as long imagination exist. Although, we are speaking of the Zelda franchise. Nintendo's money grabbing tool.

As long as the next Zelda doesn't have the hastily-shoehorned motion controls from TP then I'll be happy. (Flick the Wii Remote to attack, what the hell was wrong with the B button?)
And to those saying "Change the items/format/story/colouring/setting" I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Zelda isn't broken at all, it's just a teensy bit stale now.

if they can concoct anything LIKE as fun as windwaker again, they can use whatever formula they want.

i know this is sacrilege, but i wanna see link talk.

Is Zelda old and a little croaky? yes. but i actually loved TP. there was a optional dungeon for when you beat the game and have all the items, and i liked the dungeons. i'm not smart enough to get through OOT and for me, OOT got old at about the water temple. sorry but all that temple was filler. "swim here. get this. swim here. get that" now i do wish they brought back the Dark Link fight from the water temple. i guess the answer is that no, the formula is fine, its just that i wish to see new items. like one that allows you to fly freely in a TP envoirment. and i don't mean the whole "set the course and count the pixels for the next hour" type of flying, i want to see the ability to fly circles or rectangles around Castle Town.

On a side note, it seems Link DOES talk to the other characters, its just we don't "hear" him. it kinda leaves you to imagine what he is saying as you interact, something very amusing to me.

The formula is fun and it works. Why stop? Not every sequal needs to be the god of innovation.

I am most certainly sick of it. I finished TP out of dedication to the series, but did I enjoy the game as a whole? No, I did not. Any new items that the game introduces are always completely pointless, like the Spinner. Zelda seems to forget that when we get shiny new toys, we would very much like to play with them outside the dungeon they were intended for.

Metroid also has this problem as of late. Echo Visor? Beams with ammo that force me to conserve my weaponry for boss fights or, even worse, opening doors? Power-Ups should make me awesome, not provide a means to access new areas of the game.

Considering that Twilight Princess is my 2nd favorite game of all time (Incidentally behind Ocarina of Time), I'm not getting tired of the formula one bit. Although I understand some of the concerns: As fun as the Zelda games are, they can't use the same formula forever. Link isn't like Mario in the sense that you can just place him in a new environment with some wacky new toys and he'll do fine. I'm pretty sure Nintendo is going to take the series in a somewhat new direction with the upcoming Wii Zelda, which is why they've kept quiet about it for so long. What worries me is the direction that they will take it in. Nintendo's new casual direction with games is pretty obvious to see, and I'm worried they're going to apply that casualness to the console Zelda games. Phantom Hourglass, as fun as it was, was really watered-down to appeal to the massive DS audience, and it showed. I'm hoping they show us what the Wii Zelda will be like soon, so I can finally see what they're going to do next.

Zelda suffers from a severe case of oversaturation. There have been HOW many Zelda games all with the SAME items and the SAME basic story elements? If you take a car and repaint it and give it new upholstery it's still the same car even though it looks a little different. Yes they are fun games but how anyone can sit down and play all of them is beyond me. I enjoyed Ocarina of Time and TP and that's it (incidentally they were the first two I played). Just because a formula is fun doesn't mean you shouldn't stop using it when you've made more than ten games with it. Do you want to see Zelda end up like Sonic? I say you quit while you're ahead. Although with Nintendo's apparent lack of originality and third-party-developer phobia I doubt that will be happening anytime soon.
